The Greaser Guide The Modern Greaser culture is much more than just "the look". It’s a way of life that springs from a post-war rebellion, a sense of individual pride, and a love for classical cars, rock and roll, and authenticity. While it started back in the 40s and 50s with American teens, the Greaser culture is alive and kicking today, fueled by communities that choose expression, skill, and a connection to their roots over the pressures of modern conformity. What started as a "niche" way to express yourself has bloomed into a lifestyle that travels lifetimes. From the roar of rebuilt V8 engines to the slicked pompadours and the leather jackets that are worn, today’s Greasers blend history with a modern edge in a cultural expanse that is still celebrated in the beauty of chrome and oil. This guide takes you through the history, evolution, style, and practices of the Greasers, both past and present, and into one of the most enticing subcultures in American history. The Historical Origins (1940s–1950s) of Greasers starts after WWII, as it began to take shape among the working-class youth in areas across the U.S. . This group primarily consisted of Italian/Irish-American, and Hispanic teens. Most of them were dropouts or children of factory workers and immigrants, as well as returning soldiers trying to find their place in an economy and culture that often left them behind. These young people found their identity in machines, masculinity, and rebellion. They embraced a DIY (Do It Yourself) attitude, working on old cars and motorcycles, and in return, turned their backs on the preppy lifestyle. While they didn’t label themselves as “Greasers” back then, since the word was often negatively projected by mainstream society to describe "greasy-haired troublemakers". Within their own communities, they fostered a sense of pride in their style, loyalty to one another, and impressive car skills. Cultural icons of the time played a huge role in shaping and popularizing the Greaser image: Marlon Brando in The Wild One (1953) James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause (1955) Elvis Presley, the King of Rockabilly, with his unique style and unforgettable music These legends didn’t just symbolize rebellion. They captured the frustration and dreams of young men who were found stuck between poverty and a consumer culture that felt out of reach to most. They didn’t just follow trends, they created their own. Core Aspects of Greaser Culture 1. Automotive Culture At the root of Greaser identity lies a deep love for classic American cars, especially hot rods, lead sleds, and cruisers from the 40s and 50s. Hot Rods: These are the stripped-down, souped-up beasts built for speed. You’ll find Ford Coupes from ’32 to ’40 (Server-side, the Hustler resembles these vehicles the best), chopped and channeled to enhance their performance. They’re all about speed, often seen racing illegally and proudly displayed at local hangouts. Lead Sleds: These are the heavily customized cars, usually Mercurys or Buicks (The Hermes resembles these vehicles the most, as well as the Fagaloa), designed more for style than speed. They’re “leaded” with body filler to smooth the lines and remove any unwarranted trim. Lowered suspensions, custom grilles, and eye-candy two-tone paint jobs. Garage Ethos: Greasers take pride in working on their own rides, and being mechanics'. Skills like welding, painting, and engine tuning are shared among friends and family, rather than being taught in schools. You can still find garage meetups, restoration crews, and hot rod shows that keep this spirit alive to this day. The culture continues to celebrate automotive preservation and customization, focusing on vintage authenticity and mechanical methods. 2. The Music and Soundtrack of a Generation Greasers weren’t just about the look. They moved to a sound that forever changed both the rock and youth culture. Core Genres: Rockabilly: This genre blends country with rhythm & blues. Picture the early sounds of Elvis, Gene Vincent, and Wanda Jackson. Doo-Wop: This style is all about harmonies, often with a romantic twist, echoing from street corners and jukeboxes. Blues & Rhythm: These sounds had a impact on many Greasers, particularly within Hispanic and Black communities. These musical styles captured emotion, sexual tension, and rebel spirit against the mainstream norms. The Greasers of today still celebrate these tunes, with rockabilly revival bands like The Reverend Horton Heat, The Stray Cats, and Imelda May keeping the spirit alive. Live Culture: Car shows frequently showcase live rockabilly or psychobilly bands. Vinyl collections and spun records are key parts of the scene. Greasers often take on the role of specific DJ's or create sound systems to blast their favorite 45s. 3. Style and Personal Appearance Greaser style isn't just a costume. It’s cultural. Fashion is one of the clearest signals of cultural identity, rooted in 50s rebellion but tuned with modern takes. Men’s Fashion: Leather Jackets: The signature. Often Schott-style Perfectos, worn broken-in and often patched up. White Tees & Denim: Fitted undershirts, either cuffed raw denim or Levi’s 501s. Engineer Boots or Converse: Footwear that balances function with defiance. Hair: Pompadours, slick backs, ducktail cuts. All sculpted with pomade (Layrite, Murray's, etc.) Women’s Fashion (Rockabellas): Victory rolls, Bettie Page bangs, cat-eye makeup High-waisted pencil skirts, halter tops, bandanas Often blends pin-up fashion with punk or tattoo culture Modern Greasers and Rockabellas may incorporate tattoos, piercings, and alternative fabrics (vinyl, leopard print), but the base style remains rooted in vintage Americana with an attitude. 4. Brotherhood and Code Greasers are known for their unspoken code of conduct: a blend of loyalty, pride, and self-reliance. Crew loyalty: Whether it’s a car club, a garage crew, or just a tight-knit group of friends, yours' always come first. Respect: Greasers usually hold respect in regards higher than flashy displays. Disrespecting someone is serious. Pride in work: Whether it’s a paint job or a punch, you put your heart into it. Nonconformity: While they're not entirely political, most take pride in standing against the mainstream culture and shallow trends. Today’s Greasers are often family folks, tattoo artists, musicians, or mechanics, living everyday lives by day, but embracing their life and it's rules as soon as the night begins. Modern Interpretations and Revival Scenes Even though the Greaser era faded by the 60s, the spirit of the culture is still alive. From the rockabilly revivals of the 80s to the vintage movements sparked by social media today, Greasers are constantly evolving. Modern-Day Greaser Hubs: Southern California/San Andreas: Especially in East Los Angeles (East Los Santos) and Orange County (Red County), where the Chicano Rockabilly culture is thriving. Australia & Japan: Rockabilly revival scenes complete with dedicated hot rod festivals (like Mooneyes in Japan). Midwest USA: Greaser clubs that are deeply connected to vintage racing, small-town garages, and classic car communities. Chicano Greaser/Lowrider Culture: In East LA/LS and the Southwest, many Hispanic communities have blended Pachuco style with Greaser identity, adding a unique flavor to the culture: - Bold zoot suit influences - Lowriders equipped with hydraulic setups - Spanglish slang and Chicano soul music This vibrant mix continues to thrive in places like car clubs, barbershops, and backyard BBQs, where tradition and innovation come together. Greaser Events, Festivals, and Gatherings Greasers today come together at events that celebrate the perfect blend of cars, music, and style. Notable Events: Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend (NV): One of the largest Rockabilly and vintage festivals in the world. Mooneyes Hot Rod & Custom Show (Japan/USA): A showcase where 1950s car culture knows no bounds. Lone Star Round Up (TX): A hot rod show dedicated to traditional American cars. These gatherings are more than just fun, more like they're modern rites of passage, bringing together different generations under the shared love of old-school soul. How to Get Involved Today You don’t need a time machine or a flashy ride to dive into the community and start your RP. All you really need is heart, determination, and a bit of hustle (as well as patience). Start Small: Check out local car shows or concerts to spread the vibe and show off your style. Pick up some basic automotive skills. Think oil changes, bodywork, and the like. And model your mechanic RP around those aspects. Chat with older Greasers/old-heads. This culture thrives on connections. Find Your Style: Grab yourself a classic leather jacket, a white tee, cuffed jeans, some sturdy boots or canvas shoes, pomade, and a pair of shades. Follow real-life Greasers on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok for some serious inspiration. Join a Club or Community: The city/map is vibrant with car clubs, markets, and retro-style diners that host meetups and community events. Don’t forget about garage crews, tattoo shops, and vintage barbershops. They're often the heart of the culture as well. The Modern Greaser culture is not an escape into the past, it’s a preservation of spirit in a fast world. It offers community, craftsmanship, and a code rooted in rebellion, loyalty, and pride. Whether you’re a mechanic, a musician, a stylist, or simply someone drawn to something real from this community, Greaser culture has a place for you. It’s not about just playing dress-up and finding some wheels. It’s about resurrecting values that matter: work ethic, honor, individuality, and a love for the machines and music that helped build the 20th century. This avenue of cultural investment will give a unique and expansive look into the ever-growing community of car lovers in the city.

"Yeah, my old man used to have one of those..." "...Black as sin, with those white pinstripes cutting through the darkness like scars. You could practically feel the weight of his presence every time he revved that engine." "But you know what? That car might be the last piece of him I've got left." "Maybe one day I'll meet the same fate he did, wrapped around some godforsaken lamppost with nothing but a cloud of smoke and a legacy of regret to mark my passing...." This thread is about the story of a man, shrouded in darkness, racing against fate as he traverses through the lands of Los Santos.

Ivan had always been proud of his heritage, but being a second-generation American meant that he had to navigate a world that was very different from the one his parents grew up in. His parents had moved to Brighton Beach in Liberty City from Kazakhstan when they were young, and Ivan was born and raised in Hove Beach, United States. Hove Beach was a welcoming spot for Ivan and his family but not getting into the wrong crowd of people is hard to avoid.

As a counter to the rigid tradition permeating through the illegal world, The Windfall Connection’s hope is to set aside differences and focus on the one thing that is diluted by held prejudices: making money. Men and women of all races and backgrounds are accepted here, as long as they embody the lifestyle. Due to the founders being based out of New Chinatown, Mission Row, the Connection takes on Chinese paraphernalia. It is not a gang, nor is it wholly or majorly criminal. There is a balance between the legal and illegal, creating a mutual partnership. Business owners work hand-in-hand with those more steeped in the illegal world, letting them run themselves as siloed, autonomous groups. The business owners cover illegal expenses and fund criminal projects for these groups, and in turn, these groups dedicate their ruthless individuals to protecting the business sites that they are allowed to base their operations out of. Windfall Wealth (偏财) is an unexpected form of income. It’s a fitting way to describe those who take advantage of the system. This, along with the connected nature of the legal and illegal campaigns, is how the Connection finds its name. Chinese artists have long used five bats to represent the five blessings: health, long life, prosperity, love of virtue, and a tranquil, natural death. The bats often are bright red—the color of joy—but the Windfall does not find solace in embodying happiness. Our mark is instead a jet black. The Chinese word for black is "hei," which stands for bad luck, irregularity, and illegality. We take on the very last interpretation of the word, reminding ourselves of how we're viewed by the world at large. The five bats encircle a stylized caligraph known as the prosperity symbol. Among the Five Gods of Wealth within Chinese mythology, Zhong Kui stands as the Windfall God of Wealth, and as such, he is idolized by The Windfall Connection. He is a vanquisher of ghosts and a fighter of demons, but to fight is not always to kill. The practice of The Windfall Connection is to unify groups that would otherwise be without structure and without home, and so we look to the painting of Zhong Kui where the demon bows to him, for he realizes his life and his prosperity is greater when working alongside Zhong Kui. Zhong Kui is oft affiliated with the Five Bats of Prosperity, and this too is why the mark of The Windfall Connection was chosen. While steeped in Chinese mythology and ancestral knowledge, The Windfall Connection is modernized and corporate-esque in architecture and hierarchy. Leaders of the autonomous groups sit beside the heads of business, not beneath them, creating an unnamed council of proven men and women that seek to maintain their lifestyles and build the community that cultivated their own ascension. Discourse and cooperation are the glue, and anyone who chooses to neglect these basic principles will be replaced by the greater whole. Fly with us, or be cut down and replaced by another with larger, healthier wings. Founded on Chinese teachings within New Chinatown, Mission Row in Los Santos, San Andreas, The Windfall Connection will always prioritize those in need within the the community. To join us and to embody our ideology is to set upon the goal of uplifting one's self to a new lifestyle, but that does not mean only those born of Chinese blood, or Asian blood, are accepted. Diligence, intellect, skill, and amiability will take you far. NOTE: These ranks will not be used, or referenced, IC. They are simply meant to represent OOC development and how the characters in game organize their work and advancement up to the council. Intrigued 好奇 — Curious about The Windfall Connection, but have yet to be involved or have yet to involve themselves in the lifestyle. They've had discussions about unsavory work but have yet to run with something to completion. Vetted 审查 — Have expanded upon their curiosity and have been given minor tasks or busy work by a Connected, Winged, or Champion. They are still in the process of being tested, to see how they carry themselves and how successful they can be when provided minimal information or direction. Associated 联系 — Have stood out among their Vetted peers by proving their ability to take initiative and carry out their minor tasks without any setbacks tied to their own shortcomings. They are not yet Connected, but are privileged with a higher level of trust, and thus are given more meaningful, lucrative, and dangerous work. Connected 连接的 — Having proven themselves and carried out Associate level work to the satisfaction of those on the council, they have been uplifted and now officially belong to the Connection. They answer directly to a Winged or Champion; work is delegated down through them to the Associated and Vetted. They are the utmost trusted of the Windfall outside the council and are given work that requires a delicate hand, a thoughtful mind, and a keen eye. Winged 有翼的 — Finding your wings is no easy endeavor, for it is a test of skill, loyalty, resolve, and leadership. They have proven time and time again that not only can they drive their own success in the illegal realm, but the success of others beneath them, securing themselves a seat on the council. They often lead their own criminal groups, or are the next in line to lead a group once numbers permit. To be named a Winged is no mistake, but once someone grows their wings, they are expected to keep them in flight. Should they falter and refuse to let another find their wings, others among the council will make that decision for them. Champion 状元 — Bearing the original Zhuangyuan title of Zhong Kui, Champions are beacons of capital and governors of legal affairs among the Windfall, having earned their place on the council. They are self-sufficient, funding the projects and schemes of the Winged, and in turn, are provided protection and able hands from the Winged and their subordinates. This isn't to say that they never dabble in the illegal side of the coin, but their movements are cautious and obscured. Should a Champion's wealth wane, it is a show of their ineptitude and inability to contribute to the Windfall and the community as a whole. In this scenario, if they do not willingly step down, the council is entrusted to make that decision for them. Illegal activity we are attempting to portray and cultivate are crimes typically expected of, but not limited to, Asian Organized Crime. These include the production and sales of narcotics, car theft, automobile exportation, chop shop operations, crimes involving electronics, money laundering, illegal gambling, lottery scams, skimming, and possibly prostitution. The Windfall Connection does commit violent crimes such as robbery and murder, but on a much more seldom basis as to keep the organization's true nature under wraps. Since we are attempting to portray a secret society in West Coast America in the 2020s, a lot of violent crime will be well thought out and properly weighted for its worth. Asian Organized Crime Groups focus on generating money undisturbed. Violent crime, especially in a city like Los Santos, will garner unwarranted attention, even more so with the various other Asian groups in the city. Law Enforcement has proven they'll use a broad stroke to crackdown on all Asian criminals in Los Santos and the disruption of other groups' cash flow is something the Connection wants to avoid at all costs. The Windfall Connection is meant to be a story heavy group that focuses on characterization, human behavior, and emotional development. Your writing in game should reflect your character as a human being, first and foremost, who happens to be a criminal or head of business. The opposite circumstance should not be practiced — a criminal or business owner whose characterization comes second. If your primary focus is shooting or robotically working deals while barely interacting with the group IC, this is not the group for you. There should always be a balance and our roleplayers should try their best to give their character realistic depth. Those who belong to this group should try their very best to separate OOC and IC interactions. Narrative drives all, and as a show of good faith, I am personally embodying this ideal by making it clear up front that OOC management of the group is a responsibility kept completely separate from IC dealings. If my own character falls from grace through roleplay, I will not allow OOC privileges to provide me an unfair advantage. I will still help with upkeep for the group, or hand off the responsibilities to someone I know will handle them properly. I value story above all else and when it is skewed by OOC scenarios, the enjoyment of the entire experience is diluted. I want to try and avoid that at all costs, and I hope everyone who is interested in this group joins me in trying to uphold that ideal. If this group ever becomes an official faction, CK rights will not be carried out like other factions. Winged 有翼的 will have full autonomy to acquire CK rights for those that belong to their particular group / cell. However, no CK rights will be held across groups and no Champion 状元 or Winged 有翼的 will hold CK rights over another. This enforces the council mentality and breeds trust and respect among our members from the very start. Lastly, we personally do not tolerate any kind of disrespect, bullying, or toxicity to any of our members. We want this to be a friendly, open-minded community that focuses on writing and having fun. We do not care where you stand IC; if your OOC behavior is appalling, you will be removed from this community and the council will decide on a way to move the narrative forward without you in the most realistic and seamless way possible.
