  1. See I'm not talking about the interesting events. I'm not looking for a weekly newsletter on the coolest scenes PD found themselves in, just basic information. As far as I know PD players have to fill out paperwork surrounding the calls they respond to, is that information just none accessible? What's the point of collecting reports if the info isn't being disseminated? What is the current process for collecting information and then releasing statements on events? I don't know much about the internal workings of PD but from speaking with IRL members of law enforcement there seems like there should already be procedures in place that makes this process easier. Is there not like a shift supervisor who can forward on all relevant reports from their shift to the Media Relations team? Additionally, is it not possible to setup a "scanner" type system like FD has so at least reporters have something to they can go off of and can request responses on? How are reporters supposed to request comments from PD on certain events if they 0 idea they even happened?
  2. But here's the thing, it's got to start somewhere. I don't think anyone's looking for a full exposé on events or factions. PD doesn't even have to give that many details. Just confirm that it happened, where and when. At least from there something can come out of it, there is the basics for a small story and additional press investigation. You could add a million journalists to the server, it still wouldn't do much unless PD was giving their own official statements on events. Even with the small amount we have right now wouldn't at least, a daily bulletin with the last 24 hours most significant events be helpful? It would at least give people something to work with.
  3. Why is there almost no information about current investigations disseminated by PD through statements or press conferences? I understand that PD has a media relations team, I haven't ever really seen anything from them and from what I've heard from from members it isn't exactly easy to get information they could possibly release. What gives? I decided to make this post because currently, GTAW is in the middle of the largest CK war in server history. Some of the largest factions on the server are currently battling it out across the city. We've seen everything from arson's to gun battles with assault rifles in one of the cities nicest areas and yet we've seen nothing from PD or the press. From what I understand this lands on PD, LSNN can't magically know where things unfold and in real life it's local Police departments who are giving them the heads up. Additionally it seems counter intuitive to not make press releases about current events or events in general. How are you supposed to garner tips and leads if the public doesn't even know your investigating something? The lack of communication from PD just doesn't make sense to me and I hope it's something you can improve in the future.
  4. I think the mindset of an average joe slowly getting into crime can sometime backfire on people who haven't really played a criminal before. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad way of going about a character but sometimes it feels like these characters are going too slow about their transformation or are somehow a bit awkward in the way they do so. You've got to start with something, most commonly I suggest people to start off immediately as a low level drug dealer or car thief. At least then you have something of value you can offer criminal groups and your character would at least be open to the idea of criminality.
  5. They'll be telling tales of this battle till the day this server dies.
  6. The Mexican Mafia and most of the sureno gangs. I think it's a group of factions that's been heavily consistent over multiple faction leaders. I also really enjoy seeing their RP of gang politics, there's not many factions on the server that come anywhere close in my opinion.
  7. Anything that doesn't give them an incredibly overpowered upper hand and doesn't defeat the purpose of character development. This isn't a cops and robbers server. Edit: I also clearly stated in my original reply what I think is a better alternative, just saying.
  8. I'm all for a vice squad being created, but not this suggestion. I understand where your coming from and I do think your right about a few things but what you've suggested would create a unit that's undefeatable by criminal enterprises and would remove a huge amount of character development. I'm supposed to spend weeks developing a escort business only to be taken down by an alt character that was specifically created to target me and I'm unable to counter? Absolutely not. I think a much more productive solution would be to create a vice squad with dedicated detectives but relax the 'realism' parameters to allow basically any patrol officer who vice thinks would fit to work as bait. I get it's some movie bullshit but at least it allows the goals your trying to reach to be achieved while not also being extremely overpowered.
  9. Because it isn't an IC issue when it's an OOC server meta. Alarms are overpowered and frankly, poorly scripted and normally that always ends up poorly for the person committing the robbery. Now people might be reading that statement and think "Well don't wanna deal with the punishment? Don't do the crime" but this isn't that simple. From the way alarms function to the way police respond leaves so much more to be desired. First off, when triggered alarms create a noise and flash a red light outside the property (At least in my experience). The issue with this is, even though you can hear the alarm outside, it's still dead silent inside. You basically have to pray the admin handling your request is kind enough to give you a /do informing you of the alarm. You might say, "Well have someone outside keeping watch". That's a great idea and something I've actually done! Only issue is unless your directly in front of the property (Which would be a dumb move to make) You can't even see the light going off. Awhile ago my faction did this and I was the look out, everything was fine until cops started rolling up. I was confused and decided to drive past to figure out what was going on, only after moving forward five feet did the light start rendering for me. Lastly, PD's response to breakin's is absolutely the most over blown thing I've seen on this server. Real life when an alarm goes off? They send one or two cars to check it out because there's a real chance that it was a false alarm. GTAW? Go rob a house out in the county and you'll be surrounded by half the Los Santos Police department plus an air unit before they even step inside to investigate. There are no false alarms on this server so when that alert hits PD, dozens of them bum rush an area. OP's points are also pretty valid. I know maybe 15 people IRL who have alarm systems on their house yet on this server it seems like every property comes with it preinstalled. The majority of people get by with standard locks and keys, that's just the truth. I wouldn't even have an issue with alarms if instead of routing straight to PD it went to GS or another security company. At least then someone has to go check out if it's a false alarm or not before PD gets involved and people would actually have to go through the process of contacting a company and having them do the install. Right now anybody can be a home security expert with 0 RP.
  10. My issue with this is it overcomplicates the issue. Harassment takes place on the forums and discord, the simple solution is to start handing out warning points for inappropriate behavior. I can be an asshole (Or so I've been told 🙂) and I can admit I've crossed the line into toxicity every once and awhile but I'm not a raging lunatic. When I see the line, I don't intentionally try to step over it but that line needs to be clear and it needs to be enforced. That being said, this all kinda seems like lip service considering Nervous has actively participates in shitting on his own staff team with IFC in the past 🤡.
  11. So I do agree with you here, when we had the protests in Davis back in June of last year some of the actions taken by protesters were a bit forced. Burning down the fire station was very obviously pulled directly from what was happening in Minneapolis at the third precinct and I personally found it in bad taste. Burning down a police station I get but burning down a fire station that directly assists your community? Doesn't make a ton of sense, even for a riot. That being said, I don't see a ton of actions by rioters that is out of the ordinary from what I experienced IRL last June. The only noticeable difference is the lack of protesters Vs. Rioters. IRL all the shit that was mentioned as an 'issue' by people was pretty common the only difference is in real life for every 10 people committing crimes there were 100 people protesting. It's been well documented that members of the local bloods set (Which occupies turf surrounding George Floyd Square) and members of the Somali Outlaws (Who occupy turf North of Lake & Minnehaha where looting was the worst) took advantage of the protests to loot, rob and expand their influence in the area. I can only speak for my city but I can't imagine it was any different in places like LA.
  12. Then quit IC, do exactly what cops are doing IRL and get transfer to a nice quiet post in the county. Maybe SD or Parks Rangers. I'm going to use my IRL police department, the MPD as an example. They weren't exactly happy when protesters burned down the third precinct and the mayor wouldn't let them bust heads. In response many quit, others took LOA's and the department as a whole started acting like a 8 year old having a tantrum. The ones who stayed? They just stopped doing their job. The police in Minneapolis hasn't been 'Defunded', actually they've been expanding to cover the recent resignations. But what they have been doing is purposely ignoring areas with high crime and violence and when community members ask why? They legitimately tell the public "Stop talking about defunding us and we'll do our job". The problem I actually see isn't the protests, it's PD players not understanding who cops are. Guess what, the police aren't some moral crusaders who always do the right thing, they're douche bags who get into police work because it gives them power. Power they love to abuse. So frankly, when I hear PD players are upset or confused as to why this keeps happening? I think it's on you to really dive into the reality of police instead of the fantasy cop propaganda that gets shoved down our throats through TV and movies.
  13. NPC's are used by staff to give PD an unfair advantage, it's not just breakin's or fires. I had a faction CK which took place way out in the middle of nowhere, well coordinated and well planned. After the CK we were informed by a staff member that a "camper" in the area had seen the CK unfold and had immediately contacted police. When we pressed the admin for more information since 1. We didn't see any campers and 2. we wouldn't have gone through with the plan if we had we were told "Well, nobody really comes out here so it's the admins way of making things fair". Bodies and evidence disappears, I get that. It's not something we as a community can do much about but Jesus Christ if your trying to make things fair this is the absolutely worst way to do it. In theory I can see why an admin might think it's the right call but in practice it almost always ends up with the criminal getting fucked while PD has an arrest handed to them on a silver platter. Not to mention staff (Mostly management) occasionally spawn themselves in as gunmen or barricaded suspects to give metro and SWAT a fun scenario for them to use all their toys in. Disregarding the fact that they might be doing so in the middle of an area actively used by gang RPers and will likely get those players fucked. Imagine my factions reaction when we found out what we thought was a RICO indictment coming down was actually a staff member with a spawned in AK shooting cops in our apartment complex.
  14. This just isn't correct, though it really comes down to specifically what car your driving. I know plenty of people working shitty ass jobs who drive decked out WRX's with massive rally stickers from 3 years ago they refuse to remove. Just because someone drives a ricer as their daily driver doesn't immediately make them a shit RPer. Plenty of car enthusiasts IRL do it regularly because they just don't have the time or money to invest in a second project car. The issue is unlike in real life where there's plenty of affordable base cars you can modify into a "ricer" on GTA most of the vehicles with that level of customization options resemble more of the modern sport and super car look and price.
  15. It's been said before but young professionals. I'm going to use FD as an example because I think it best highlights the issue but I'm not trying to call out FD specifically, this is a much broader issue I see in at least some form in the business and government scene. Lets take a look at some photo's from the LA fire department: Do you notice some trends among these people? If you don't let me point out the obvious. They are overwhelmingly male (Which is something we don't really need to enforce) and they are all overwhelming in their late 20's to mid 50's. Yet I find on this server firefighters are overwhelmingly female and almost all in their early to late 20's. It takes years to get somewhere in a government department, I know people who started in my local FD at 25 as a volunteer and only by age 30 did they really start working full time for the department and even then it wasn't as officially salaried employees; That usually takes another two or three years and usually only happens when someone above them retires. Like I said this isn't just an FD problem, I just think they highlight it. I'd be really interested in seeing forced age up's for all government employees (Gov, FD, PD as well as people involved with judicial RP) as they progress their characters within the departments. That way at least they're age matches that of their role on the server.
  16. This is already planned for the new inventory revamp.
  17. Escort businesses in and of themselves are fine to advertise, it's not really hurting anybody as long as they don't cross the line being too explicit. Additionally, from personal experience PD basically starts investigating you the minute they see an ad so it's not like many of these escort services last long. But there's a huge difference between that and this: Escort services are run by factions and groups and creates a ton of RP, frankly if you've ever watched a low budget TV channel after 1 AM chances are you've probably seen an ad. But what you've highlighted isn't an escort, it's an ERPer. If you were around when this was actually an issues you'd have seen the utterly weird and and frankly uncomfortably specific ads put out by people that you knew 100% they were getting off to this shit OOCly. To them /ad was their version of the search bar on Pornhub and that's why staff intervened in this shit. For awhile ads like that were not allowed and you regularly saw people getting kicked for it but it seems staff has become pretty lax on the rule, I think if they just start enforcing it fully again this issue would go away. However, I have a line in the sand when it comes to outright banning escort services from using ads or somehow diminishing their ability to advertise. It's a legal business and as long as they aren't breaking any advertisement rules it's fine. Those who are doing it well are subtle about it and those who aren't subtle get caught by PD. It's a natural solution that doesn't require major change.
  18. So let me get this straight. If someone spray paints a swastika on my businesses front window and I choose to paint over it to immediately get rid of the issue, for whatever reason (I don't have a power washer, I don't have the time before we open, I'm an idiot who panics, etc) instead of choosing the most effective and proper method; I'm powergaming? I don't really think you understand what exactly powergaming is.
  19. Then brother you just gotta report it. This doesn't sound like a major issue on the server and seems like it's probably one person or a small group doing it. I agree with you, if people are doing it with like 0 RP right after you do yours? That's a problem but from my personal experience it's not something being dealt with everywhere by everyone.
  20. That's such a tedious thing to be upset about though, don't you think? Like it's idiotic yes but is it outside of reason? Not really.
  21. What's the issue? Covering graffiti is entirely IC, I actually think for the most part the back and forth between taggers and the people covering graffiti up as been pretty cool. I saw one the other day where a small gangtag was covered with a rose and "Love not Guns" was written underneath. Some may think it's cringe but I think it adds a cool level of depth to communities. There's genuinely some local going around Vespucci trying to promote a end to gang violence and that's pretty cool to me. As for the point others have brought up about how it can be dangerous to cover up a gangs tags, that threat of danger is entirely on gangs to create. It's not a given IC just because it happens IRL, it's on you to enforce and create that sense of fear in your communities. I'm normally in the camp that believes civilians should be showing more fear but tbh, this shit is entirely on criminals.
  22. I am serious because it plays a significant role in violent crime. Perfectly happy and jolly people don't snap and assault other people on the street. Do I think the angry criminal stereotypical portrayal is revolutionary and great? Not really, I think it's a cliché but nonetheless it's still a driving factor behind these scenarios. This is a heavy RP server, we're supposed to be RPing a reflection of real life. Let me remind you and everyone else reading, in the real world the only thing stopping someone from murdering you in the streets is the fact they don't feel like it. It's not laws, rules or policing; those are all encouragements against said actions. But they do nothing to stop someone from murdering you if they truly feel like it. If you've ever been mugged or confronted by someone in the street IRL (As I have), you quickly come to the very scary realization that the person your in a confrontation with could be unhinged enough to end your life. It's a very real and scary feeling. Unfortunately we play a video game where you know your going to respawn and you know there's a limit to what your assailant can do. That feeling rarely comes across and is even more rarely portrayed. The whole point of my response was to highlight that boiling down this issue to such an extent does no service to solving it unless solving it to you means making RP worse. One of the foundational building blocks behind criminality is some form of mental illness or other mental imbalances so to discount it to "Ugh, these fragile minded criminals? Really?" just goes to show you don't have any idea of what the fuck your talking about.
  23. So, I think when examining you have to keep in mind the sort of people who get involved with crime and how they react emotionally to certain situations. Boiling the question down to OP's extent doesn't paint a full picture because it's not a straightforward answer, it's not black and white. While it is often overplayed and at points cliché, criminals are often individuals with anger management and other emotional regulatory issues. If in OP's example the criminal player can easily identify the individual who report them and can quickly close the distance between them without interruption by PD? I wouldn't classify that as bad RP. It shouldn't be encouraged, but I wouldn't consider it bad RP. However, these very specific circumstances rarely appear IG. Issues arrive when criminals hold on to the smallest grudges for retribution at a later time. We RP living in a huge metropolitan area, if your characters from strawberry and an incident happens in Vinewood your not going to return to Vinewood looking for the person who reported you at a later time. The other question that needs to be asked is, how will a criminal organization respond to the same scenario? Because again, the situation presented by OP isn't black and white. It's one thing to piss off an individual or fuck with their business, it's another thing entirely to cause problems or bring attention to a criminal group. Retaliation can vary depending on how large of an issue your call created and what ethnicity or type of criminal organization that is being portrayed.
  24. Jokes on you, my retarded ass made $500 on the islanders the other night. Stay mad.
