  1. It's not recent nor is it small. Frankly, this thread just serves to rehash the same fight this community has had for two years. While you intentions are pure inevitably one side will begin attacking the other, the side being attack will respond and the thread will devolve into a 27 page dick slapping fight. For the most part I think the majority of people find a good middle ground, however what I might see as a measured and decent balance someone who never commits crime on their character might see it as entirely outrageous and over the top portrayal which I'm only using to victimize civilians out of some IRL power fantasy (That's sarcasm but that's honestly what some people believe). There are some civilian characters who's balance makes no sense to me, what they see as perfectly balanced I see as a paper thin persona used to treat GTAW like some kind of second life where all they have to do is party with their friends and race around in sports cars. Does seeing these types of characters and that lack of balance (in my eyes) frustrate me? A bit, but I accept that this is a video game and at the end of the day it really doesn't matter as long as the person isn't breaking server rules. Which lets be honest, rules aren't being broken and that's why the rules are being changed to fulfill the desire of the players crying. You can't convince me that crime and criminal portrayal is that bad, I play regularly as a criminal and I never experience it and rarely does anyone I encounter. While there is always room for improvement, it really feels like the issue isn't as bad as people are overdramatizing it to be.
  2. I think they do a great job, given what they are allowed to do. My biggest concern when political RP started in general was that politician characters wouldn't really be IG characters and they'd be treated much like an event alt. I'm glad to say from my experience that almost ever politician is as active IG as they are on the forums. Not all the RP they do directly surrounds bills either, a lot of it is internal development and running the government day to day. Really cool shit but obviously not super impactful day to day. The biggest issue facing Legal and political RP however seems to be a a serious level of micromanagement by LFM, leading to frustration and a lot of times the resignations of the people who got the ball rolling on political RP in the first place. Legalizing weed would seriously damage/destroy drug dealing RP, I'm glad it wasn't allowed to go through. But we've had other things blocked as well. If I remember correctly LFM blocked the death penalty from being executed at one point because they PERSONALLY were against the idea of the death penalty even if all parties including the person getting executed was ok with the RP. I'm not sure what the answer is because like in the case of legalization, I think there are times when staff does need to block political changes. But overall? The IC political class has to be able to have the ability to effect real change on the server. Every significant bill or court case shouldn't be subjected to heavy handed intervention from staff.
  3. Of course, but we're getting nowhere by acting like the sky is falling. All these threads serve to do is to act as a toxic echo chamber where the same 20 or so people who I'll be frank, take the game way to seriously monologue about how horrible their experiences have been and how the server is in crisis mode. All the while there are hundreds of players like myself who admit there is an issue but rarely experience it first hand in game. So what? This is a video game. Does it suck to lose a bunch of development? Sure, but that's the risk you take when you RP a LEO. End of the day you can still reroll a new character and start a new story literally the same day you die. Again, it sucks and I get that but at the end of the day this is a video game and I also know for a fact that LEO's who get CKed get streamlined back into the faction. People really need to stop comparing this and the crime rate statistic to real life like it's some sort of shocking evidence of the server dying. I am all for realism and I'm all for raising the quality of RP. I 100% admit that there are a fair number of people who commit crime while putting in the lowest quality effort and that these players need to be punished and removed from the community. But there's no sense in getting this upset about an overblown issue. My advice? Next time you see some crime or shit that you think wouldn't happen IRL? Take a moment to lean back from your screen and remember, this is a video game. I promise you you'll realize it's not that big of a deal.
  4. Your blowing the issue way out proportion. It's really not that bad.
  5. I hate this mentality because I think it basically stops us from ever finding productive solutions to the issues we're face. Every single person in the community, no matter how much they may agree or disagree differs in their opinion of what is consider proper crime portrayal. This is a community with thousands of players, we have to accept that for most of us? The RP will never be up to our own personal standard and we just have to accept what can be done and what can't. Because I'll be honest, all I ever see in these types of threads is endless bitching and complain with no real solutions in sight. All they really do is insight more and more toxicity in the community. And I know, somebodies going to quote me and say make it so people committing crimes are CKable or make sentences incredibly long. Again, this is a video game and that swings both ways. In scenario 1. The legal community aren't exactly perfect angels and your going to just see a massive uptick in PF warrioring. Instead of having tons of robberies your going to have a ton of shootouts. Something I would argue is worse but to be honest, I think there are many people who preferred it not out of any source of realism but because they just don't like taking L's. In Scenario 2. You accomplish literally nothing, either A. you kill the criminal playerbase and in turn the servers playerbase. Something that might seem great to some but remember, ripple effects. No criminals means no crime which means less to do for PD, SD and FD and you'll see activity drop offs there. Many of the main business ventures and RP hubs people enjoy? Also run by major criminal factions. Those places aren't just going to be taken over by civilians when they leave, there's not many that have the resources and man power to pull it off. Or more likely B. It does nothing but make crime worse. People aren't going to spend 8 IRL months RPing only in prison, they'll make alt that they will continue using to do crime on the street. Ultimately in both scenarios, the people who are actually being hit the hardest aren't the shit tier criminals who just want to rob/DM, they'll just go to a different server where its acceptable. The people you'll be hitting the hardest will be a ton of criminal RPers like myself who honestly just try to provide great RP to everyone they meet and who create really cool projects for the entire server to enjoy. People who ultimately are doing exactly what you want them to be doing. There is literally nothing else you can do. It sucks I know but its the only way things will get handled without hurting a ton of your fellow players as I keep trying to tell people. I am not your enemy so people should keep that in mind when they are purposing changes that would push me off the server. Honestly, I think you highlight where the real issue is. Staffs enforcement of the rules, this type of stuff is RPQM's purview and it's clear they aren't doing enough. There rarely seems to be any preempted action taken against troublemakers. Players have to deal with trouble makers constantly before any real action is taken, just take a look at the report section some weeks and you'll see the same name 5 or 6 times. But these reports take so long that by the time you get a verdict on the first, the troublemaker has already created bad experiences for 5-6 other people. I don't really know what the solution for this would be, but I know directing frustrations at other players who in most cases aren't the people you are against does absolutely nothing but make the situation worse.
  6. Again, enough with the unrealistic expectations. The crime rate will always been ridiculously high. This is a video game. IFM in recent memory has been, well horrible. I've received similar treatment. But after having pretty frequent interactions with people like @honey. this summer, I got to give them the credit when credits due. The current IFM team cares about actually enforcing and raising the quality of illegal RP on the server. They are looking to right problems that were ignored or downplayed by previous administrations. Of course, don't be unreasonable with them. If you expect this to be a simple 5 step process or something (As you seem to) your not going to be happy. The change they will be able to make is never going to be as sudden or perfect as you seem to want. But they can influence and tweak things for the better and overtime the situation I believe can find a balance that everyone enjoys. So you want realistic crime rates but not realistic crime, got it. Guess what, the reality is people who are sticking a gun in your face for your wallet aren't normally afraid to use it. You mean nothing to them, attempting to dramatize it won't change that. Again, you have unrealistic expectations. This is a video game running a format where most interactions take 10-15 minutes. A lot can happen during that time. If people want to kidnap you, strip you naked and leave you for dead? It might not be the best RP or my personal choice but they are showing a fear of being caught. You might not like it but it's ALSO something you've demanded to see from Illegal RPers.
  7. I don't think anyone is trying to compare the map to LA to justify chain robberies, but I think people are trying to point out that the reality of LA (Not what's sold by hollywood and tourism campaigns) is its a crime rampant, pretty fucked up place which does have a ton of violent street gangs and criminal organizations. Now is that factor turned up to 11? Yeah. But debating it is kinda pointless because this is a video game. Of course crime is going to be out of control, of course people are going excessively brutal or violent. The GTA franchise is based around outrageous and violent crime in a universe that parodies real life to a ridiculous extent. While of course we are all here for serious roleplay, some people particularly on the civilian and LEO side of the server have an unrealistic expectation of how much criminal activity should be allowed, again in a video game based around crime. While I'm a firm believer that criminal acts shouldn't be a daily activity for a character and more time should be focused on personal development, this is an old school mindset. "Roleplay" something that was incredibly niche and taken incredibly serious by its participants in its glory days of the mid 2000's has now become incredibly popular and also much more casual in it's approach due to its popularization by twitch streamers in recent years. We can always press players to be more serious and take more time with their RP, but we have to accept that this is the new norm. The majority of players joining RP and the server today want to do crime, the majority of those players were not introduced to RP with the same type of serious mindset that we all were. As long as this server continues to grow and people continue to find roleplay, there will continue to be shitty chain robbing criminals who haven't yet realized there's more fun to be had if you don't treat the server like a cops & robbers simulator. I'm not saying we have to just roll over and say serious RP is dead and the server is basically just anarchy now, but I am saying complaining about it and calling for staff to broadly punish illegal RPers isn't going to do anything productive. The way I see it? The majority of Illegal factions on the server are dedicated to doing things the right way. Instead of broadly condemning illegal RPers, put faith into IFM and faction leaders to help make corrections. When you have a bad experience, identify who your dealing with and say something. IFM doesn't want shitty factions and faction leaders don't want dumb ass members. I do believe there are some factions who attempt to abuse the server for their own enjoyment but those factions or the players doing so can be weeded out. But acting like the sky is falling and blaming all criminal RPers on the forums isn't doing anyone favors. It just sours everyone's view of the situation. Again, ultimately this is a video game based around crime. To expect crime rates be "realistic" is both a counter productive and unrealistic demand of the servers administration that will never be fulfilled. Corrections can be made to make the situation enjoyable for most people. But again that's only going to happen if feedback and complaints are sent through the right channels, not spammed repeatedly in the same type of general discussions thread that gets posted every month. When you have a bad experience, identify who your dealing with and say something.
  8. There is no crime in Los Santos. I've never seen it, you can't prove that it exists. Honestly we could use more crime.
  9. I haven't played a southside character in over a year but in the two times I gave a it a shot this as been my experience: Start out alright with a few people doing our thing in a block that is entirely abandoned. Few days go by and some randoms show up claiming it's they're turf and proceed to just repeat kill us until we quit. Now some of you might say "Oh well it's obvious it was your mistake setting up on someone else's turf" but that isn't exactly the case. Both times we'd check the block a week in advance, we wouldn't have issues for days. Both times we used areas that were almost entirely abandoned and the locals we did see (Including gangs) we got along with. Regardless eventually a group of 4 or 5 would show up claiming our block and would proceed to gun us down. I do not believe my experience is uncommon and combined with a horrible housing market I think it discourages most possible quality factions from springing up there and bringing some stability. Normally I'm not for admins micromanaging but I think IFM needs to do something about the south side. Free up properties and supervise the RP down there until some more people can plant their roots and bring stability. I think if we get a few more quality factions in control down there we'd see a positive difference.
  10. Supporting if utilized on only certain intersections. If deployed broadly it would basically shut down any form of racing as a whole. I'm all for making things destructible but we aren't talking about normal security cameras. I doubt you are easily going to be able to disable any of these unless you physically down the street light. Which isn't really realistic so I don't see how any of this is an issue.
  11. 100% Support. People don't choose to get STD's in real life either, If this was a script that would basically kill your character like some STD's can in real life? I'd probably be against it. But what is being suggested isn't overly impactful on characters, you catch something? You go to the hospital, RP for a bit and they F2B and remove the STD script wise. Or people can just ignore it, this is a video game after all and it's not hugely impactful on your character. The thing is right now, people create picture perfect characters with the express purpose of using them for E-Sex. Now what you do with your character is up to you, but even the recent rule changes haven't changed much. This acts as an almost perfect way of discouraging this type of behavior (Because it'll negatively effect your character in a minor way) while not putting an incredible strain on staff or by completely alienating part of the community. Because lets be honest, some of these characters do RP outside just esex. Now they just have to be cautious about using a condom, big deal.
  12. Username: American_Cheese44 Comment: Will it clean up senate politics? Yeah, if Reyes doesn't get elected again. She's the one who was inspired by cop killers to write a bill banning the death penalty! She tried to legalize prostitution! What kind of message does this send to todays youth if we allow someone this morally corrupt to hold public office?
  13. This and ultimately, there's not much you can RP in prison that you can't already RP at TTCF.
