  1. Well documented information about gangs is hard to come by, especially up to date information. Gangs/Gang crime was a huge target of law enforcement in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Not just for prosecution but for gathering information for bulletins like the one I linked. But something happened here in the US around September 2001 and the peoples priorities shifted drastically. The people that were dedicated to compiling this type of information to teach law enforcement and the public about these issues were forced to switch their priorities to focus to Counter Terrorism. There is some information out there like what I linked, but sadly far more common the information we receive is specific to certain cases and not a outline of overall gang behavior. Additionally gangs have changed as I mentioned in the reply you quoted. It seems like peoples understanding of gangs is tied primarily to the 80's and 90's when street gangs were increasingly hierarchical, people color banged and using a gun was the last resort. This was times when street gangs like the Gangster Disciples controlled entire parts of the country. That's not the times we live in or the times we are RPing. Today, in 2022 gangs are fragmented, small ultra violent groups. Its actually one of the reasons it's so hard to find in depth credible information's about modern street gangs. These groups don't seem to follow the same type of logic that people keep demonstrating on this thread. A modern 18 year old gangbanger is not thinking about the "heat" they'll receive if they attack you, what they think about is how they'll look weak if they don't. On the point we agree on, that's where I see this issue stemming from. Extortion CK's are different but for the majority of snitching CK's/retribution, your disregarding your characters life. It's a robotic mentality, I am a civilian so I do not commit crime, if I see a crime being committed I must report it or I'll have committed a crime. No one IRL thinks this way in these situations, no one is putting their "civic duty" over their own personal safety. That's laughable and you should be laughed at if you think that way. The only solution to this problem is two parted. 1. IFM needs to tell faction leaders to have their guys chill a little, that IFM expects less rushes towards murder and 2. Legal RPers need stop disregarding their characters life because of some OOC grunge against crime. This not some perfect world RP server where criminals get to do what they want, civi's get to do what they want and no one has to interact with each other unless they want too. GTAW is a realistic, gritty, dark interpretation of Southern California and all it has to offer, good and bad.
  2. This type of mentality is actually fucking hilarious because it shows either your just blindly lying to help your point or your so out of touch with reality that you actually think that's how the real world works. Here's a 2007 Nation Gang Center Bulletin on how gangs intimidate witnesses. In it, the author (A Assistant District Attorney from California) writes that it very much is an issue and happens constantly. Gang members do go after witnesses, they do go after jury members. There's a reason the justice system goes to such lengths to protect both groups and their identities. There is a very real threat to their safety. There is something valid to say about the amount of murders that happen on the server but, that can be counter by the fact murders/shootings are becoming a more common occurrence IRL anyways. More and more as established hierarchical gangs like gangster Disciples and traditional Bloods/Crip gangs have been targeted by law enforcement, the void that has been left is commonly filled by younger, more violent and less discipled gang members. That's all pretty pointless information though because if you just resist the urge to snitch or act like a cocky asshole 9/10 you'll be fine. It's hilarious that you think people actually stop and consider their "civic duty" and the fact that they might face legal consequences for not calling 911. Buddy, people are far more worried about getting their teeth kicked in in those situation then if the cops are gonna be upset they didn't call lmao. That's why all these CK's stand, people endlessly complain that the city is a warzone and then turn around and can not resist the urge to call the police.
  3. Yes, anyone who brings law enforcement attention on to a situation, person or group directly or indirectly is a snitch. Any action that leads to this is snitching/dry snitching (Snitching indirectly) Depends, by calling for EMS/fire in the US you are by default calling 911 and the police. I understand that on the server you can ask for one or both but in real life if you call 911, even if you do not request a police officer, a police officer still might respond to the call. While it's not directly related to "snitching" or the server, this is why we've seen increased reports of people "arriving" at hospitals via private transport IRL. Yes, but you make the wrong assumption that IC or IRL criminals really think that through. The vast majority of "criminals" in the US usually suffer from some form of developmental or mental health issues and additionally many suffer from drug addictions, they don't think and act they react. The idea that criminals are for the most part all organized crime super villain's who think every action through ten times over is a myth, it's a fallacy, it's bullshit from the movies and TV. Do people take escalations too far sometimes on the server? Absolutely, this is a video game and it's going to happen. You really just gotta suspend your disbelief. But the vast majority of arguments I've seen made against these players both in this thread and your past thread are frankly not valid. This "issue" and the people who seem so upset about really seem to be either not from the United States or I guess just never go outside. Because here's what it's like in the real world. In the real world, you keep your mouth shut and your eyes on your own shit. I've had people talk shit to me on the street and I absolutely wanted to talk shit back, but you know? I kept my mouth shut and I kept moving because I don't know who that dude is, I don't know what he's carrying and I don't wanna end up in hospital because I couldn't resist the urge to be cheeky back. That's getting into escalations so I'll just leave it at this: If you wanna call the cops like a 60 year old retiree, your well within your rights to do so. But those criminal RPers also have the right to seek retribution. It's not their fault because you saw some criminal activity, you make the call you carry the responsibility for snitching. The alternative is just RPing like a realistic adult living in the United States and just minding your business.
  4. You can continue to move goal posts (As I watched you do with the last person who replied to you), that doesn't change the fact that your wrong.
  5. This belief that facing retribution for snitching/calling the cops is one I honestly think you can only form if A. Your not American, B. You never go outside or most likely both. It's a ridiculous belief grounded in fantasy. https://www.dailynews.com/2008/03/11/witnesses-fear-retribution-from-gang-members/ https://www.npr.org/2020/11/20/936717194/a-judge-watched-her-son-die-now-she-wants-to-protect-other-judicial-families https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9878379/NYC-woman-33-hunted-killed-gang-testifying-against-shooting-her.html https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/joyriding-florida-teen-busted-classmates-attack-snitch-article-1.2564902 Retribution killings/attacks are not some far gone ancient criminal practice from the 20th century. It doesn't matter that its infinitely easier to get caught in 2022 vs 1984, people still lash out violently when you've caused them unneeded law enforcement attention. I think it would do everyone a favor if people started RPing like actual individuals who live in an urban setting and not suburbanite tourists who call the cops on people for smoking weed.
  6. Please tell me what a trigger ban would do on a video game where abortion doesn't exist? They are RPing republicans, sounds like pretty spot on portrayal to me. Just because your personal political beliefs don't agree doesn't mean you have the right to OOCly attack people. If you want "progressive" bills passed maybe you should join the senate?
  7. I totally agree with you except nobody is running around talking about abortion or Roe V Wade on the server. Not to mention, this isn't an NA based server so the majority of the community doesn't even know what Roe V Wade is or are effected by todays decision. People mental health is incredibly important, nobody is dismissing that. But given what I've just stated and what I stated in my original reply. Abortion is such a none-issue IC, it so rarely comes up that if your mental health is being damaged that much from it being just a topic on the server? You just gotta log the fuck out. Problem not solved, actually it makes issues on this server worse. This is a community of thousands of players from across the world with varying cultures and beliefs. Someone is always going to be offended by something and we're becoming a community where every time a small minority of the community gets "triggered" by a major global event we need to decide if said event is banned or not. I don't need to bring up abortion IC, nor do I ever think I have. But it's apart of life and can when it very rarely comes up lead to great RP. Regardless I shouldn't have to go into private because my character wants to say "Hey did you guys see the SCOTUS decision?" when he's standing at the bar with his buddies. Because we aren't debating about literal abortion or human reproductive rights. We're debating if we can even discuss the SCOTUS decision on a virtual RP server where abortion is not an issue nor is it even mechanically possible but hey, just talking about Roe V Wade might do someone metal harm so we should just avoid the topic all together. That's fucking lunacy.
  8. Your comparing apples and oranges. "Racism" is fine on the server, It's a regular part of life sadly. George Floyd was different, it was catalyst more then it was a theme. It was very clear that there were groups who were going to use it as a chance to troll and groups who were going to use it as a chance to be unRPly hostile and violent. In that context yeah it made sense to make George Floyd a banned topic. Roe V Wade is completely different, sure it has major effect and is sure to create a massive IRL movement in the coming months but I don't really see how the subject is going to cause problems for the server. To be honest abortion rarely comes up as is and even if it did we're replicating a west coast liberal state, I doubt the characters we're portraying are even immediately effected by this.
  9. I think you should spawn with a pistol from the start, just like the Founding Fathers intended.
  10. I mean there isn't really that much of an issue for staff to intervene on. OP's entire premise for the thread is he thinks too many people are smuggling in drugs without 1. examining if that is causing actual issues and 2. Really knowing how smuggling drugs into prison actually works. There is the point being raised about the potential negative consequences and how they should play a bigger role but to be honest, while the way it currently is isn't perfect? What it definitely does not need is more restrictions and admin oversight. If it ain't broke don't fix it and if it's barely being held together by duck tape, don't break it even more.
  11. Unironically this. From the most simple assistance to getting complex ideas or properties accepted really the only way to do it is to have a friend in staff. The sad part is I wouldn't even classify most of it as favoritism or abuse. The bureaucratic layers on GTAW are just so ridiculous that a perfectly sensible idea that goes through the official process will either take ages, get denied or both yet if I bring it to somebody I'm friendly with in staff, somebody willing to listen to me I can get most things accepted. Not because they are showing me favoritism but because we can have an open conversation about the request, clear up any confusion and answer any questions. All in thirty minutes, that's just something the current system doesn't allow.
  12. Yeah the “let’s give someone 10 warnings and THEN perma ban but only for 3 months” shit is not working. I think the intended effect is to give people the chance to learn but in reality it’s just taught people to disregard and skate the rules. +1
  13. MPH is superior why would you want to use metric anyways?
  14. See this has been going on forever, plays a big role in the amount of "unrealistic" escalations we see and people seems to refuse to see it as a problem. "What am I supposed to be, weak helpless prey that submits to criminals every time???" This is one of the most common responses whenever this comes up and honestly it's a childish overreaction. Nobodies saying that, nobody has ever said that and not being "weak helpless prey for criminal" does not = being a mouthy shithead IC. It's not everyone, but it's a decent number of civilian characters who do this and it frankly creates situations where I have to assault/kill/do something to you. It's frustrating because, I don't even want to RP with those people because frankly it's obvious it's their OOC frustrations with the server bleeding through to IC. But sadly, if I'm playing a gang member, mobster, really anything criminal? Being blatantly disrespectful or insulting to my character especially in front of others creates a situation where my character can't let it slide. I'm not talking about small petty shit or slights, though I understand that there are ultra aggressive criminals who do exploit them as a chance to be well... ultra aggressive. I'm talking about civilian characters being downright insulting and rude just because they think they can and then somehow crying rule break and unrealistic when they face consequences for it.
  15. Honestly it’s better then /ads being flooded with escort and looking for work ads constantly like it was before this rule was added.
  16. It seems to me the issue isn't TTCF, it's SD or more so the corrections side of the faction. It's disappointing as well because like others have pointed out, SD was originally founded with custodial and more criminal focused RP as the goal. Even more disappointing when TTCF and SD first dropped? They actually accomplished this goal incredibly well. Deputies had a place in the pod, the level of activity and frequency of custodial shifts allowed relationships and RP to naturally form between inmates and deputies. Jevents were really fun and worth logging in for because they were entirely player driven. Working a shift in the canteen wasn't just fun RP, it allowed for really great jail development. Sadly, at least in my most recent experiences this isn't the case anymore. There is rarely more then one deputy in the pod at a time and when there is, they are usually not even in the pod they just stand AFK in the observation room. While jevents seem to happen a bit more frequently now, they are a watered down version of what they once were. For example, the last few times I went to a canteen Jevent, it felt basically NPCed. No inmates had to RP cooking the meal, there was no chance for interesting RP or interactions between guards and inmates. It was just line up, walk to the canteen, pickup a tray that was put together by an NPC, sit at a table and RP eating. This might sound like I'm trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill but I'm really not. When 95% of your RP takes place in the exact same box doing the exact same thing, any chance you get to do something different your going to maximize the opportunity. In my canteen example, an inmate is going to use the chance to work in the kitchen to do a million different things. Maybe they'll steal some food or equipment to fashion contraband, maybe they'll use that extended period time with a single officer to push the boundaries of what they can do. That could be as innocent as saying "Hey, let us cook something special for ourselves and we'll fix you up a plate" or in the opposite direction, try and identify that deputies weakness, maybe convince him to turn a blind eye to something. The possibilities are endless but sadly they are being squabbled. It's not entirely SD's fault, I don't blame them for wanting to do more or different things. But when SD and TTCF was added we were sold on an idea that they would exist to basically enhance to interactions between LEO's and criminals primarily through running TTCF. That's not what's happening and it needs to addressed either through doing what OP has proposed or the idea I've become more open to which is just establish an actual corrections faction. Make a state agency, a private company overseen my LFM. It doesn't matter, if SD doesn't seem to wanna manage custodial RP then another faction should take it off their plate or at least diminish their responsibility.
  17. I agree with you to an extent, there are some businesses (Including one of the ones you mentioned) that unrealistically operate like a mom and pop style business while simultaneously operating in 1-12 different business sectors. Most of the times having the same handful of characters do all the different jobs. It's unfair, it's unrealistic and it harms the RP of specialized companies like your own. But as for large corporations like like IMEX or Gruppe 6? It makes complete and perfect sense for them to strike out into every sector they possibly can. Why shouldn't the security company that's patrolling multiple business not also try to gain revenue from managing their parking lots? Why shouldn't a large logistics and trucking company that already maintains a fleet of repair trucks for their own vehicles not also try to gain revenue by providing the same service to the general public? This is the reality of the Modern day business world. Large corporations grow, expand and swallow everything in their path while the small, specialized business has to adapt and/or fight to survive.
  18. Now this, this is quality roleplay.
  19. The best to ever do it, weathered every storm and still came out on top. Great run @Flow.
  20. Ban legal characters who serve no purpose besides ERPing and partying in fantasy land. Ban characters with “military backgrounds” unless they can actually show they have an understanding of what they are RPing. No more “7 foot Amazonian ex navy seal who discharged as a major after 2 years in the marines” shit. more broadly, your personal fun and enjoy Shouldn’t take priority over the quality of the server. GTAW marketed itself as a heavy RP server, if you don’t like “realism” or heavy RP or the gameplay associated with it isn’t enjoyable for you, you should play somewhere else. Server went to dog shit because we tried to make everybody happy instead sticking to the foundation that made GTAW successful in the first place.
  21. To be honest, I’d use taxi’s more if I didn’t feel like there was a 95% chance I’m gonna be apart of Eastern European taxi adventures episode 256 each time I use the script. Now, everyone is entitled to RP whatever they want but It feels like almost every time I have to use the thing I end up at the mercy of some stereotypically bad immigrant taxi driver who 1. Barely understand the English language, probably will use said language barrier to insult you. 2. Doesn’t know where anything is, will purposely go to wrong destinations “for the RP” and finally 3. Will undoubtedly either drive recklessly until they get pulled over OR will have some kind of random engine issues. While I get there’s probably a lack of riders and these players are just trying to create the best RP (in their eyes) that they can for the few riders they do get. The result is an experience that makes me actively avoid using the taxi script in the future. I’ve got no problem engaging with the RP, but when that RP is being forced down my throat and takes me on a 30 minute detour because I’m stuck in the back of your car? I’ve only got so much patients both IC and OOC. Im really not trying to say this type of character is bad, nor am I trying to say cabbies shouldn’t be like that. Realistically, a lot of immigrants do drive cabs/Ubers in the United States and it can be a fun RP experience, the problem is the stereotypes and the dramatic level they are played up too. My suggestion? Tone it down. Your character should AT LEAST know where things are in town and be able to drive around correctly. It’s a legitimate requirement for most cab companies.
  22. It would require too many resources with not enough payoff and workarounds for what they’d bring to the table can be figured out an utilized by existing law enforcement.
