Bars and clubs...

People cry about not having other business opened, but every time I talk to someone that has something other than a nigh/strip club or bar he tells me he has difficulties in getting clients.
I have managed a gym for a while now, and it happened for me to place 2 /bad's and not have one client enter (considering gyms kind of attract players because of the MMA thing and the possibility to enjoy some virtual violence)

Yep this is generally the issue. A bunch of people will complain about only bars and clubs being open and the lack of other businesses, but when other businesses try to open know one goes and supports it. Can’t blame people for going where the money is until that changes 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’d be cool to see stuff like a internet cafe or a nail salon but like others mentioned people would complain about the lack of “unique” businesses but would never go to them.

Both of these exist though, right? Go to them and support them!

But you can’t do anything there!

That's a great point, actually. Lots of these places are basically useless - sure, you might go once for some unique RP, or just to check them out, but there's no point in going over and over again. Even if you do make it a habit for your character to, say, get their nails done, they still won't be able to approach a ton of other unique businesses similarly.

The only way to make unique businesses pop up, generate RP and prosper is to make everything controlled by players, and it needs to be done en masse. Want makeup? Visit a salon. Nails? A mani-pedi, spa, whatever. Want new clothes? Go to a player-owned store (and each could sell different clothes). If no place is open, then you'd have to wait and schedule a visit. Otherwise there will never be actual demand for unique role-play. We need a huge influx of scripts to support unique businesses. It would benefit literally everyone.

As much as we hate bars and clubs, it makes sense why there are so popular. They're literally the perfect RP hubs. Anyone can go to a bar and it'll make sense for their character. Doesn't matter if your character is a 21 year old college student or a 50 year old mafia faction leader. You can still visit a bar and it would make sense for your character to go there. Bars and clubs are perfect to make connections, make friends, and just overall meet new people. You just can't really do that for niche businesses like nail salons or libraries. Unique businesses like those only cater to a very small number of people who would be interested in those businesses. Meanwhile bars and clubs cater to literally everyone above the age of 21.

It also makes sense why there are so many. Business owners know that bars and clubs are the meta right now. Why go through PM and wait 3 months to open a library and barely get more than 2 customers an hour, when you can open a bar instead and reach max income in one opening? Not to mention, bartenders and bouncers are easy to find and hire, whereas unique business staff are honestly harder to find than customers.

You can roleplay.

I think you should be careful with accepting the following requirements as the bare minimum for you to interact with something.

  • GTA5 mechanics
  • Script support
  • Money
  • Social interaction in a social setting

What about your character's story? Are you developing this only through the above?

Those should be heavy RP hubs. Female RPers gossiping in the salon and tons of conversations at a coffee shop.

It can even be a greater hub than a club. In fact, more people hang out at coffee shops than at clubs, on a larger scale, in the real world.

I don’t roleplay.

Except this is a server that’s open 24/7 for everyone, when you make everything dependent on players being there you start breaking that down. The second you set it up like that you cut out almost everyone with real life commitments and build it for people with significant amounts of disposable time. You take away the start and go setup we have, and that’s still a major attractor.

Yeah sure but GTA W is a conglomeration of many communities and styles. Not just nail salon gossip girls or whoever the hell goes to a coffee shop. Bars and clubs work as social hubs because they’re accessible for nearly everyone. Bars and clubs can retain that openness even while tending to niches and communities, ie bars in the county for instance.

Then increase the number of such businesses so that there's at least one in each timezone, or just allow the current system but disable the script-owned ones when another opens. The alternative is what we have right now - a major lack of unique businesses.
