  3. Username: Tanya Sun Comment: I've been enjoying my retirement. Like, /really/ enjoying it. Have years of Republican leadership made this state worse off? Absolutely, no question. But watching how you have managed these political and frankly, personal, crisis's has been an exercise in self mutilation. The state is worse off for the Democratic Party's credibility having nose dived due to these questionable tactics, and really -really- self-pitying public statements. You had nothing to prove, but the more you ran with your gut instead of remaining calm and /dignified/ and evaluating reactions, you released a public letter on /private/ matters on the basis that the public should know - then agreed to a /closed/ impeachment proceeding because what - the public shouldn't know? You sound less like a west coast Democrat and more like a Floridian Republican. We're Democrats! We take the high road. Instead, you made the Republicans here look like /Democrats/! All the attendance and work you might have done? Doesn't mean much when the end result is nothing but brand damage... This entire farce has made an otherwise unelectable Republican majority look appealing to -Democratic voters-. For all the work you may or may not have done, this is not a legacy to be proud of... Your argument might be "at least I showed up!". Well, showing up isn't much good when you allow yourself to get put in /this/ position! It's almost enough to make me reconsider retirement. Do us all a favor. Find God.
  4. Name: Tanya Sun ✓ Comment: As a life long Democrat, this entire situation is hard to watch. This is San Andreas, not Florida! As an American though, seeing thorough exposes as detailed as this one, regardless of the subject, gives me some hope for the Fourth Estate in San Andreas. Not a lot of hope, but definitely more than none!

  6. The fact this sort of devolved into semantics about skinheads is why I think this is a bit of a pipe dream. It /would/ be a great addition if everyone engaged with it rationally and not at all to play out some memelord understanding of what they're role playing. But it likely won't to the majority of the player base, /especially/ new or inexperienced players who might gravitate to the extremes just for keks. I back what Anders said. Have your /current/ character have political positions and beliefs in line with their culture, social circumstances, plausibility etc. It adds more dimension to your current character as a citizen of, or immigrant to, San Andreas and the United States. Even people with /zero/ understanding of politics have strong political views. This, I think, would be the best place to start.

    Speed Bumps

So my character made this a big agenda last year when local politics RP was a thing. It was wildly requested IC and OOC. But yeah, the chosen objects for the speedbumps had people going through their windshields, which... ngl, /hilarious/. But also, not realistically what a speed bump should do... If they can find an appropriate item for it, this should absolutely be on residential roads. It is practical, regardless of what some may think.
  8. Sweet and merciful Jesus, cease this entire idea...
  9. This is going to be a no-win scenario, so I'll attempt to be as balanced as I can. The argument that real life conflicts and wars should not be discussed in character on sever by Government RP is a valid one for the simple fact that there are players in the community that are either from those regions, or are related to people from those regions (not just the ones listed in the first post). As a game, the whole point of RP is escapism and fun - and by bringing those topics into this space, we are contradicting those express purposes for people who might be affected and just want to get away from that. But... On the other hand, the same argument could be made for almost any political commentary or debate. Trans rights, hate speech, LGBTI rights, Native Title, abortion rights, etc. etc. impact people deeply, often to the detriment of human life - and the lives and well-being of players in this community. All of those topics have featured in the politics RP on server to date. To suggest the issues don't, or to varying degrees, or even more idiotically are 'less than' - is besides the point. The fact is they do have an impact, have had an impact on players - as has, I'm sure just being robbed in-game... So, the question to my mind is; a.) Do we ban IC political discussion of active international conflicts (in the same way server banned COVID 19) b.) Or, given that political topics are inevitably charged - do we ban all controversial political topics that may impact the well-being of players OOC which leads to... c.) Just don't do political RP because it's too scary, and has risk of offense. In a game where you murder, rob, rip people off for kicks the moral and ethical boundaries here are difficult to discern - and I find a one size fits all approach often does more damage than doing nothing. Imho, this is a slippery slope and while both perspectives have merit I feel the imposition of hard limits is counter-productive, but I also think the imperative to watch out for player well-being is also potentially overriding. Personally, I'm not impacted so it's easier for me to sit on the fence here.
  10. Weaknesses - Can get in a rut cycle of repetitive /me descriptions to fill time or break up dialogue unnecessarily - Can over use actions in emotes, often - Find it difficult to be in the middle, I'm either excessively descriptive, recycling descriptive or excessively short-hand - Difficult to consistently react in time to a situation that's urgent, or when I do it doesn't feel necessarily appropriate - Horrendous at replicating moods that a character ought to react to and be reactive in, i.e. nightclubs where your motivation is, you're there to dance, drink, do drugs be wild - and instead you stand at the bar.. or talk to two people, and not do things your character otherwise might - Overuse of underuse of appropriate terminology, generally being inconsistent across the board - For an outgoing character, as a player connecting with an extroverted personality type even as a simulation meets with interesting foibles.. - Switching mentalities between characters, especially going from one high intensity scene to another to completely different emotional states and psychological conditions - I very much need to be sharper with this - Dialogue can be bland, either sticking to conventional English without acknowledging phonetic nuance, slang and idioms - OR - the complete opposite, using apostrophes in excess to simulate phonetic form and accent (even though it might not fit) There's a lot more, but these off the top of my head are mine.
  11. Supporting, it really isn't a meaningful business interaction. If it were, more gas stations would be active. Either tie it to an attached business or just remove. 🙏

  14. Ayo folks! While this is an OOC request, I'll make a couple comments. My character proposed the speedbumps IC after fairly lengthy process over the course of an election, a legislative motion and a safety commission. IC the logic for them is sound, and if you do object to that - I respectfully disagree, as I imagine the majority of IC respondents also would. That said, OOC I imagined there might be blowback over implementation - and that seems to be the case 😞. (For the record, in-game politics RP does have in-game impact, it's not just for show!) So implementation does leave a little bit to be desired. I want to thank Public Works for giving it a real shot. While this iteration may need some fine tuning, I know work hours went into them - and props should be given for that. A couple notes then! Speedbumps were, in fact, the most requested IC change at the municipal level for Tanya, and so that is how they came to be. I imagine if the politicians were inundated with complaints IC, they might change their tune - but the speedbumps weren't just an arbitrary thing put in by the powers that be, they were the result of many many hours of IC interactions by so many characters that engaged with the IC election and policy making RP. Subsequently, if you want them removed - I feel it's only fair that it take about as much effort to do so by those opposed to them. People wanted them IC, so they were implemented. If other people don't want them IC, they can protest it. IC it remains one of the more popular policy moves (ironically not popular OOC with y'all, and that's fine!) This thread isn't arguing for removal though, it appears to be arguing for changes that would technically 'if done right' would always be the case IC. I do support this request on the basis that it isn't asking for the speedbumps, that are implemented IC to be retconned arbitrarily - effectively invalidating the work that went into them . It asks that we explore more functional compromises. I completely back that. I wish I had more alternatives in mind. (I don't, I'm the policy wonk...) I absolutely agree that those of you who don't play politically engaged characters should be able to raise objections like this that have OOC consequences. This thread raises some very valid points about the physics impact on vehicles. My personal opinion is that speedbumps that oblige vehicles to slow down is always preferable to those that don't... (what a twist!) That said, I'm perfectly happy with a more plausible looking bump on the road with RP'ed impact. Whatever the trialed compromise, I completely support efforts to improve the speedbumps to be functional. But on account of how much IC (and OOC) work that went into them on account of a lot of people, I'm adamant that they not be removed without an IC catalyst-- like a petition or protests, or something. IC actions, IC consequences. For those of you who may still have an issue, the speedbumps aren't server-wide and won't be everywhere. They will only be present in Vespucci, Little Seoul and parts of Morningwood (Unless the Govt decides otherwise..) and won't blanket the area. They were implemented only in areas where significant numbers of characters requested them. If they are a significant inconvenience to you, alternate routes do exist - please do use them in the meantime if it's unduly affecting RP in a way that's implausible. Rest assured, most of the arterial roads are completely untouched! For the record, I nearly flipped my sedan on one of them at 40kmph, so I get the implausibility of the physics... If you're stuck crossing them in their present state, definitely slowwww right down...😅 😬
  15. Response to Findings of the extraordinary Commission into Residential Roads Safety (West District) Open Letter: Speed Barriers at Key Arterial Intersections 23/12/2020 Mr. Mayor, Attached to this letter are the areas identified by the Commission for optimal speed bump placement. [See Appendices A-C] Pursuant to the Mayor’s recommendation during debate on the matter of the Motion to Establish an Extra-Ordinary Residential Roads Safety Commission on the 1st of December 2020, the West District Office convened an extraordinary Commission into Residential Road Safety in Vespucci, Little Seoul and (north-west) Morningwood. The remit of the Commission is an on-going exploration of means and methods of combating the disproportionate number of vehicle-to-pedestrian accidents that occur, not only in western suburbs, but throughout the city. In this regard, Los Santos is the vehicle-to-pedestrian accident capital of the nation. This is not a legacy to be proud of. While the commission is ongoing, its first recommendation is a mitigation strategy of strategically placed speedbumps. While the Commission welcomes alternative placement locations should the Department of Public Works deem it necessary, it is the express opinion both of the Commission members and the West District Office, that speedbumps be expedited as a matter of course to the locations that have been identified below. More measures will be forthcoming in the New Year, as the Commission winds down for the holiday recess. I commend this measure to you, and urge immediate action. Whatever your legacy in office may be, the lives saved that we may never know were at risk as a result of inaction, is perhaps the greatest achievement of any politician’s tenure. I urge you to see this through in good faith. Signed, Tanya Sun West District Representative Office of the Councilor for the West District, Los Santos Appendices are attached as per the West District Office's commitment to public transparency. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Appendix A Key Arterial Placement: Suburb: Little Seoul _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Appendix B Key Arterial Placement: Suburb: Vespucci/Del Perro _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Appendix C Key Arterial Placement: Suburb: Morningwood (North-West)
