  1. A Renovated Fire Station Three, which was burnt to closure in the riots. July Riots: 10 Months On Harry Lawson Los Santos' has seen an usual rise in civil unrest over the last year. In July, the use of a racial slur by a sworn officer caused South Central Los Santos to erupt in violence for a week in which protestors burnt down Fire Station 3 in Davis and countless people were injured and hit by rubber bullets from police tactics. In January, a protest against local security company, Gruppe 6, erupted both in Sandy Shores and Strawberry after the security firm shot dead a partygoer attempting to flee apprehension from a security guard. In February, just a few days later, a peaceful vigil occurred outside of the Los Santos City Government building in Rockford, with calls for 'defunding the LSSD' being heard after a perceived heavy-handed approach to the earlier protests from the Sheriff's Department. Since then, the Sheriff's Department has elected their first African American Sheriff in Rick Washington, and the Los Santos Police Department has also undergone a change in replacing the outgoing Vincent Logario with current Chief of Police, Jocelyn Ingram. While there have been several attempts undergone by both departments to improve the relationships with marginalised communities, for instance, the LSSD hosting a charity event in Davis, there has been little talk of regeneration from the State Senate in the area. Sheriff Rick Washington (Source: LSNN) Whether it is out of fear of lobbyists or even a mismatch of priorities, the state senate has instead focused it's energy on bills banning teenage transgender surgery and legalising hitting children before focusing on regeneration and community outreach in the much-needed Los Santos area. We spoke with one resident who claimed he did not know who represented him in the senate, before laughing and saying "they only represent themselves in there." He discussed the impact of the riots on his life, he continues, "it's ruining investment in the area, you know? Who's going to open a store if they know it's only going to get burnt down the next time someone calls us a n****?" On the issue of improving the lives of people on the street, it seems the senate, and indeed, all parties, remain silent. Sheriff's Department Statement "The Los Santos County Sheriff's Department remains committed to combatting injustice and systematic racism within the San Andreas legal system, ensuring that everyone receives equal protection under the law. Since my election as the first African American Sheriff of Los Santos County, I have been able to bring about successful changes such as mandatory anti-bias training and cultural sensitivity training for all employees. In relation to the events leading up to that incident, the employee in question was terminated immediately by then Sheriff Patrick Machado for their abhorrent behaviour towards members of our community. The Los Santos County Sheriff's Department holds all employees to a high standard and has a zero tolerance policy towards discriminatory behaviour. Sheriff Rick Washington" The Los Santos Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.
  2. Perseus Nightclub, the newest entry to Los Santos' Night-life. Is Hospitality The New Gig Economy? Harry Lawson Nightclubs - whether you hate them or love them, whether you hit a hattrick a night or get dragged along once a year when your manager decides she's feeling 'young', they are an essential part of life here in Los Santos, and at that, an essential part of the economy. But yet, there's a perhaps dark undertone to the industry, and whether you consider the employment and training tactics of 'entertainment companies' as exploitation or an essential price to pay to conduct business, it remains something that is rarely seen outside of hospitality. Employees to a hospitality firm are usually hired, sometimes hours in advance of an opening, and when times get desperate, so perhaps, do their owners. But the question is - does this harm the consumer experience? Certainly, there's an argument to be made that these hiring and training practices - whether it's from bartenders that think a Mojito is a Mexican beer and hand you a Pißwasser, or security guards who've seen rejection after rejection on their Guard Card, there's clearly a correlation between public opinion and how much a company is willing to invest into their labor force. I spoke with Cyprus Mills, co-CEO of AMC Entertainment, about her views. Placing aside the unique corporate structure, she defended her firms hiring decisions and instead spoke about a formalization of her security workforce. Cyprus Mills - We give people who are interested in working with us the freedom of choice, we have people who do a shift or two and never come back and we have people who do around four to five shifts a week. In a short interview, Cyprus refuted that contracting bartenders would be of any mutual benefit, stating that the role is only a 'side gig' for people, whereas security is more of a pressing matter and AMC entertainment are formalising contracts to secure the future of their security force. When it comes to their bartending, they take people both with and without experience and run a policy of teaching-on-the-the-job at various venues, including the Grand Rockford Casino, and Perseus Nightclub. While it's uncertain what quality control there is at this level, we spoke to two people from within the industry to get their views. "I got a call, thirty minutes later I was pouring cola into an Old Fashioned." One former bartender, who asked to stay anonymous, spoke about their experience as they came into the city, working for a nightclub outside of AMC Entertainment that has now closed. A lack of money but a surplus of time, the bartender called an advertisement asking for an employee, after initially being offered two thousand for a night, they hung up the phone. Shortly after, they were called back, offered double the wage. Their interview/training session consisted of "do you know how to make drinks?" Expecting no follow-up, the employee said yes, and proceeded to ruin cocktails and pour beer with overflowing foam for two hours, with most of their customers either being too drunk or too used-to-it to care. In many cities, bartenders are able to make great money by being good at their job, with tipping being a staple in our culture, a little bit of flair and confidence can see someone through college and pay close to any corporate job downtown. Of course, that's not to say Los Santos isn't full of good bartenders, it certainly is, employees who care, with a little bit of magic to each drink and a strong focus on customer service, however the issue becomes, if some businesses are hiring everyone, how can you separate the gold from the dirt? And, of course, the problem lies everywhere in our economy, from restaurants to bars to your local Ammunation. Another employee, in the security sector for AMC Entertainment, told News X his recruitment was quite easy due to his prior relationship with the firm, and his previous employment at Gruppe 6, but stressed that recruitment within security is 'well-planned and thought out', with many of the security guards joining up signing up for the opportunity to create a career path with the company. He ended his answer with a nod to innovation and the competitiveness of the market, but is this innovation sufficient to make up for short-falls in staffing? The New Norm Of course, it's easy for any journalist to sit in a chair and judge hospitality businesses for their shortfalls, with little experience in the industry themselves, but there are very clear and repeating issues within some smaller businesses that are inattentive - not only to the needs of their staff, but to their customers as well. Businesses who rely in the industry to train their staff will only fail as larger businesses continue to dominate the scene and provide the brand awareness and expectation of standards - however high or low they may be, to the market. Often, speculation arises that more should be done to combat the growing monopolies in all sectors of hospitality, for those wondering what could be done, it's simple, train the staff.
  3. Best of luck with everything, you'll be missed in the staff team.

  4. I wouldn't mind that and I doubt Sharvit would in terms of those bigger changes, but then we didn't have an issue with weed either so really it's up to management. Another issue of it is that people tend to force management's hand by complaining directly/posting threads, take the Israel/Palestine resolution, I doubt anyone would've cared had it been Myanmar, Xingliang, DR Congo, and arguably all of those are against the premise of the rule, but again, it's about the public outrage and people's refusal to engage with the political process in-character.
  5. They are really, considering the only law that has been a no was marijuana. The biggest problem is more the structure of the government but I think they're working on reform to streamline.

  7. Wasn't blocked because of my OOC ideology although I appreciate the shout out regardless. My OOC ideology hasn't ever gotten in the way of what I do on a video game, or we'd have TV licenses. Nor was this even my decision. Was blocked because: 1) SD didn't want to do it. 2) Wasn't going to force PHMC or Hope to carry out an execution as the only registrars of doctors in the State of San Andreas. 3) We had nowhere mapped, nor did we want to allocate mapping time / funding to do it for the one time in 4 years of GTAW that someone asked to have their execution roleplayed. 4) Continuity Management said that we aren't carrying out executions in-state. 5) Death penalties aren't even listed in the Penal Code, instead being literally a line saying 'The court can decide a proportionate punishment'. 6) Death penalties are also automatically appealed in many states, including this one - they're drawn out for years. 7) Executions aren't carried out in the county jail. Next time, try actually talking to me.
  8. Thanks for your feedback everyone, LFM will review what you guys have said here and what has been discussed with me personally and take action where needed. Thank you!
  9. PM & LFM don't give gambling licenses or gambling establishments out so no idea where these are coming from. We're trying to limit casinos to 2.
  10. I wouldn't mind the idea if done well, the issue is that this usually ends up with thirty players roleplaying luxury lifestyles producing nothing to the economy other than what their namechanged characters had earned a few years ago and buying up every business in the state.
  11. Very much enjoy this, hope to see more people walking around. I think getting some sort of public transport is useful too.
  12. CK appeals are handled by Management/IFM I believe, LFM haven't ever handled them. I do hear what you guys are saying about the length of time it takes to turn these around so I'll bring it up with the HoF 🙂
  13. I met someone from GTAW before. He kept poking my face shouting 'ERP!' and asking me to take a ride with him in his Kawaii (he came on the bus). He kept talking about how hard it is to be a woman in Los Santos due to the inequality (this guy had a beard) and saying that blue haired lives matter. When I asked him where he lived he said he lived in Mirror Park and pulled some tendies from his pockets. He talked at length about how the crime rate was too high and you can't even go outside without getting robbed by some gangbanger from Davis. I started walking away and he kept chasing after me saying "HaveADream has disconnected" and "server machine broke" before his 'girlfriend' called him to take her to the beach (we live in England). Weirdest day ever.
  14. Telling people I'm an admin doesn't have the same clout in real life.
  15. Congratulations @honey. @cxnand @Vulcar!!!
  16. We're seeking to clarify this rule at the next staff meeting to turn it from admin discretion to a codified rule hopefully, from my perspective a ram is fine in the circumstances of: 1) It's the best case scenario - e,g. at a traffic stop, a suspect gets out armed, ramming is obviously the best thing to do. 2) It's roleplayed. 3) It's not repeated. That's just my own perspective on it but other admins may disagree hence why LFM will try and get it codified at the next staff meeting after consultations with both PD/SD leadership which we're currently having. In my own opinion, It's not a realism issue as much of a roleplay issue to me, sure it's realistic, but it's an instant-win, there's no defence to a laggy car coming fast towards you, and doing it to ensure the other player is down is just a huge, unfightable advantage. In the situation regarded to here it was discussed with both staff management and other administrators before being actioned. But yeah, we'll seek to clarify it ASAP.

  19. I think the best way to make politics more relevant is engaging with it. For instance, there was a Q&A last night in which some people petitioned a state senator to push for a namechange of TTCF due to the connation to the 9/11 attacks, financial support for people roleplaying veterans and pushing folks roleplaying energy companies (Aurum Energy) to move towards green energy which will allow for RP at the wind farm and so on, a candidate was in Little Seoul campaigning tonight, there's an event planned tomorrow from what I know, too. in the past month open-carry was legalised in the county and hate crimes are about to be legislated on. Security firms are about to face tougher IC measures including regulation/stricter GC approvals as a result of the shooting at Fantasia Hall. Outside of the senate a bid was offered to construct a flight school in Blaine County to provide small-load flights and air lessons and the Port of Los Santos is functioning to provide quality blue-collar roleplay, Maybe it's less of 'this has no impact' and more 'this isn't being marketed enough.'
  20. It was actually @vrbwho's done quite a lot of good work in the county, they even have a Discord full of county roleplayers that that discuss ooc issues facing the county and host events as far as I know. I agree that district-local politics didn't really have the influence, outside of that case, which is why the system reverted to a Party List. This was mostly because, well, nobody really engaged with district-level politics.
