  1. I'm sure this discussion has been had before sometime ago but it might be worthwhile to bring it up again. So I understand why we don't have any prisons here, those institutions would be managed at a state level by San Andreas Corrections which would warrant an entirely new faction. Totally get that. That said, what if we were to actually utilize Bolingbroke as opposed to Twin Towers as our main location for the county jail and instead portray it as North County Correctional Facility which is managed by the LASD within our real world. I feel this change would be productive as A) it's a legitimate jail environment mapping wise, and yard time would be far more beneficial to inmates within it and B) it's a shame that the entire area gets absolutely NO use whatsoever despite being a HUGE part of the map. You can see here that the relative location of Bolingbroke to Los Santos aligns similarly in conjunction to where NCCF is located comparatively to Los Angeles. As it stands now Twin Towers is just the NOOSE building mapped as well as reskinned, and I think it can remain perhaps for temporary holding and/or administrative purposes but I do think NCCF would be better to portray on all fronts. Not only is it far more geographically realistic compared to the map, but it's just a huge quantity of space left underused with utterly no purpose. At least there the inmates could actually go outside (while the yard in TTCF is outdoors, it's not like a "classic" prison yard). Honestly, I feel this would all around help rejuvenate and encourage people to roleplay within TTCF by giving them a fresher scenery that also allows for more duties to take place outside given it's literally in a desert. I am NOT suggesting we dismantle TTCF or split the jail population. I am NOT suggesting a new faction. I am suggesting we simply keep TTCF for administrative purposes inside of the LSSD and shift the actual jail population to NCCF, where deputies and custody assistants will perform their established jail duties. Will this require a new interior? Maybe. I think we can easily just swap the teleporters on TTCF to coincide with NCCF. The interior might be a PINCH off but ultimately would subside, the only difference would therein lie in the yard. NCCF already has a yard established and wouldn't need to utilize TTCF's, allowing us to simply use what's there. UPDATE: Thank you everyone for keeping it CIVIL and RESPECTFUL, together we can be the vehicle for change we wish to see for both legal and illegal RP. UPDATE TWO: THANK YOU @L I C E (mapper of TTCF) for offering your services in creating and expanding upon NCCF should this go through. UPDATE THREE: Thank you @Hugh-Gi-Oh for offering to propose this bill ICly within LS GOV to warrant and effectuate this change, picture of draft here:

  2. JST previously dubbed Making Enemies Rank (MER) originates as a tagging crew out of Roy Lowenstein and Jamestown St. The crew was quickly integrated into the growing Traviesos, with many members earning their put ons and the crew becoming a clique. After gaining notoriety as an established clique the members adopted the name JST as means to represent Jamestown Steet & to solidify turf growth. Members of JST are known for their red ragging, which serves as a way of being identified as “crip killers” through the adoption of blood aesthetics. The clique is still well known for its tagging.

  3. Detailed Description A simple few additional commands which enhance our roleplay ability, especially in groups. In real life, through body language and eye contact, it's typically very obvious when someone is speaking to you. In game, it's near impossible to recognize. Relevant Commands/Items Talk: /to [person] [text] Low: /lowto [person] [text] Shout: /sto [person] [text] I imagine it'd look something like this in a chat window: from Zachary Metzger to John Doe, displayed on anyone's screen: Zachary Metzger says (to John Doe): Hey, how are you? from John Doe to Zachary Metzger, displayed on Zachary Metzger's screen: [ ! ] John Doe says (to You) Hey, how are you? Currently, a roleplay scene might look something like: It's messy, it's outdated, and it's a pain to follow. Even with using highlights, you can't recognize when someone is calling your attention. How will it benefit the server? These commands (and perhaps additional commands in the same nature as this down the line) will greatly help develop social scenes and allow us as a community leave those awkward moments when a character walks away when you're trying to talk to them.

  4. NEW K9 DOG TO SERVE LSFD & SAN ANDREAS 4th of May, 2022 LSFD Public Relations Supervisor Jennifer Schneider The Los Santos Fire Department welcomed a new K9 dog, Terry (Australian Shepherd from San Bernardino) a few weeks ago. The K9 unit is part of the Urban Search and Rescue division and the fire department has 4 handlers in total. Handlers along with their dogs are assigned to either Station 3 in Davis or Station 1 in Paleto Bay. LSFD K9 dogs are trained to locate missing persons and also to find live humans who may be buried in collapsed or destroyed structures. Each dog has its own handler. Our dogs can also be deployed to large-scale national disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires, and floods. K9 handler teams are ready to search for people even in the most adverse terrain and conditions. Be it forests, mountains, swamps, deserts, or urban environments, in any weather and any time of day. (Runa, Ares, and Terry before a training exercise at Station 6, LSIA) Canines can safely and quickly cover a large disaster zone and are trained to follow directions from their handler at a distance. They can work four to eight hours without getting distracted and can cover about 2.5 times the distance a handler does. The dogs are trained in special zones such as destroyed buildings, forests, and so on to simulate calls they can respond to. All dogs learn the skills needed to maneuver and explore, sniffing out the scent of live humans who are trapped beneath the layers of concrete. LSFD K9 dogs are also trained to locate human remains. Dogs can work independently of their handler in trained search grids, and K9 has modern GPS equipment to navigate, track movements, and progress to make sure that searches end in success. Selected pups undergo intense training until they are ready to be matched with a human partner. The partners then train for months to be certified search and rescue specialists. All of our dogs are trained in search and rescue (SAR) only, utilizing scent. (Terry during his first search and rescue drill accompanied by Runa on Mount Gordo, April 2022) K9 handlers must not only be skilled, be able to improvise and show teamwork and independence as appropriate, but also be able to form a bond with their partner and trust them the same way they would trust a human colleague. To help achieve that, all our dogs are also family pets with their respective handler when they are off-duty, giving them a home, and all our current dogs have been or are being raised by their handlers themselves. You could meet one of our dogs in a park the same way as any other dog when they are in their free time. The K9 unit is currently using two Declasse Alamo's 2600LS with callsigns K9-3 and K9-1 for transport. K9-3 is stationed in Davis meanwhile K9-1 is stationed in Paleto Bay. Both vehicles are equipped with special K9 transport boxes and also accessories such as water bowls, air circulation fans, ventilation, heat alarm units, lights, and others. Vehicles are capable of off-road transport since most of the calls K9 members are responding to are in hard-to-reach locations. K9 is also using transport boxes so they can travel in any vehicle when required. If the terrain is inaccessible for ground units, some of our K9 handlers are also members of the Air Operations Division as Flight Crews so they can be hoisted from the helicopter along with their dogs. Meet Ben, Runa, Ares and Terry! Ben Ben is a 4 years old Border Collie from Bakersfield. He's serving the department for several years and was already deployed in numerous situations. His home is at station three in Davis and is assigned to the K9 coordinator, Captain Simmons. Ben likes long walks, swimming, and sausages. Runa Runa is a 3 years old Golden Retriever from Portland. The dog is currently assigned to Captain Khan and is also stationed at station three. Runa is serving along with Ben for several years and they both helped in several search and rescue operations. Runa is a very active dog so she enjoys playing anything with everyone, no matter if they're a human or another animal. Ares Ares is a 2 years old Siberian Husky from San Diego. Ares is being actively deployed and he helped locate two missing people at Mount Gordo just a few days ago. The dog is assigned to K9 Search Specialist Morel and his home station is also station three along with Ben and Runa. Ares enjoys running and swimming. Terry Terry is our newest K9 dog and is only 8 months old, currently still in training. Terry is an Australian Shepherd from San Bernardino and his home is in Paleto Bay, station one. The dog is assigned to K9 Search Specialist Santiago. Terry is currently undergoing intense training where he will be tasked with locating several hidden humans while ignoring food and other distractions. Once he locates the victim, he'll alert the human partner with a specially trained bark designed to bring rescuers to the specific location. Terry had his first deployment to a live drill in April 2022. Terry likes belly rubbing and tug wars. (From the left: Cpt. Simmons + Ben, Eng. Santiago + Terry, in the back FF3 Morel + Ares and to the right Cpt. Khan + Runa) Special thanks go to K9 Coordinator Captain Simmons for the help with the article and additional info she provided. Our Canines are ready to respond every single day and the dogs love their job, ready to search anytime. Interested in our work? Follow LSFD Scene Reports! 7. This just seems like poo-pooing an idea without wanting to formulate an opinion why. What they are saying is that there will be no tangible difference in the way these facilities are ran if Bolingbrook is rpd as a County Jail in order to maintain SD's custody position. While you are part of Custody you should be able to acknowledge that SD, their leadership, and on a structural level, has no interest in Custody. They gave gone from only custody when they first started, to 10 hours mandatory jail time, to 2.5 hours. Having people with experience in jail becoming Custody Assistants hasnt solved the issue. What TEO is saying is right, you are suggesting taking the jail and moving it somewhere else, and that fixes none of the problem Jail Rpers face. It also nullifies every possibility of one day having a Prison, which would make more sense for the majority of active people in Jail who have been convicted. Again, if we're going to move to Bolingbrook State Pen. it should remain a State Pen, and there should be an entirely custody focused faction running it. Yall might say "Itll end up like park rangers!" To which Id say the following: the amount if interest in Custody rp in the SD, right now, is less interest and activity than Park Rangers. There is also a great many people who are not happy with the way SD has been ran, and who would be eager to rp a SADCR faction. Custody rpers in SD could easily make the switch. A switch to SADCR would bring a massive boost to Prison activity if done right. We have been told in this thread that often inmates are inactive, but nobody has addressed why. Its this way because 99% of the time they will be sitting at the table with no Deputies around. While we can make our own fun, our schemes and RP is still stiffled by the lack of jevents like commissary, yard, and the like which are entirely irregular. This irregularity is unfair to the inmates. People can only sit and talk in the same room for so long. LSSD has been told about making this things regular and scheduled, and has ignored this. SADCR, being a totally custody oriented faction, would likely have a much better working relationship with inmates which could ensure quality of life changes, and this relationship no longer exists with LSSD. I have, with no exaggeration, been in jail from the very beginning. In that time, SDs shift in focus has been clear and apparant. No custody recruitment drive will change that. What we need is a faction entirely focused on custody. Removed entirely from the SD, and their current, 2 hours of jail time a month, culture. What we need is regularly scheduled events from which we can rp in and around. No change of setting will boost the population; it has to be a fundamental change in how the Jail is ran. If we go to Bolingbrook, keep it a penitentiary, and have a SADCR faction run it. Not SD. Otherwise you're just taking the problem, and pushing it somewhere else.

  9. I've always thought that Bolingbroke should have been used instead of TTCF because it IS the jail in GTAV and would have been easier/cooler to use. I know people complained about the semantics of it being a state penitentiary vs a county jail but we're roleplayers and can use our imagination and suspension of disbelief to not have that be such a big issue. That being said making a new faction strictly for custody roleplay is a waste of time and energy, people will be initially interested in it but as time goes by it'd probably have the same problems as SD does now in not caring enough to be actively there. And scaling back SD's patrols in favor of enforcing custody roleplay is just going to make people phone it in as @beets said or they'd outright quit or transfer to PD. You can't force people to RP anything as requirements or what have you, it'll always lead to apathy and people ultimately quitting entirely. I think the fact of the matter is that a majority of the playerbase doesn't really care for prison rp at all. Whether they're LEO rpers or illegal rpers. LEOs essentially have to act as NPCs just to facilitate jail RP, and illegal rpers most likely don't give a shit about prison rp besides the act of getting out and having fun outside of it. There's clearly people in this thread passionate about prison RP, but it begs the question on why don't these players also play Custody Assistants in order to facilitate this type of RP they want to see? My guess is the majority would probably get bored just like everyone else. Be the change you want to see, forcing people to RP things they don't want to will only lead to worse roleplay.

  10. I'm not sure how you'd even implement this practically; if you want SD to focus more on jail, how do you incentivize that? As I've seen in my experience, mandatory jail hours only causes people to sit AFK in the bubble to check off their box for the month. You don't incentivize people to actually DO things in TTCF by making it a mandatory requirement to play the faction. In fact I'd say it has the inverse effect- people are even less likely to get seriously engaged with it if theres a time requirement. I'd like to actually hear what could be done in practice that would make jail roleplay engaging for CAs and deputies. Running chow, yard, etc. creates roleplay opportunities for inmates and I understand that- but it does ultimately end up being a chore for deputies who set it up. As far as the main topic of this thread, the hype would quickly fade away and it would end up with the same issues as TTCF. I dont see an additional faction being viable- I'm not sure why theres an expectation that creating a new faction specifically for this project would assist with anything. The idea of a Corrections dept. is nice in theory but I seriously seriously doubt there would be enough interested people that would keep that fac rolling for more than a couple weeks at best.

  11. No. Putting a county jail where a prison should be just to make use of the prison is not the way to go. TTCF works better as a county jail, not only that, but moving the location to Bolingbroke doesn’t do anything to help the lack of a prison on the server, instead just prevents it from ever happening. TTCF should stay.

  12. The roleplay purist in me wants to say "hell yeah, every company should just stick to its area of business and roleplay exclusively around that!" I'd rather see a server where we have 50 companies each doing 50 different things, and that if you needed X Y or Z thing you'd go to the appropriate A B or C company. That'd be in a perfect world, but we're not in a perfect world. We're on an RP server with a limited number of active players, only so many free hours in people's IRL lives to RP, and only so much energy and interest in RPing in niche companies. If you can make a dedicated towing company work, more power to you. But the problem is? Most people can't. Most people can't run the company effectively, they can't recruit enough players to portray characters dedicated to the towing company, and they can't maintain a workload enough to keep things interesting enough that they don't burn out. If you can, that's awesome, but my realistic bet is your towing company will have a difficult time retaining employees and you'll find yourself feeling restless before long for a lack of things to do. Not that I'm prescribing you this or wishing your project ill, it's just realistic, and if you can be the exception that's fantastic. It's hard as hell to keep niche legal company projects alive on this server. We only have so many players who are even willing to actively play "legal" characters. There are only so many people on this server who are willing to be employees to a firm for longer than it takes to make enough e-maniez to try to open up their own bar, club, or whatever. There's only so many times you, as a business leader, can tolerate spending hours and hours onboarding a new prospective employee, only for them to work 1 or 2 shifts and either vanish or tell you they got another job at a cafe/security company/faction/etc which is taking up their time. You might be inclined to look at the problem from the wrong end. "Well, if every company was specialized and focused on one thing, it'd funnel more roleplay towards them and there'd be more to do, thus less boredom and burnout." But that's not really how it works day-to-day. There's a finite number of RP offered in a certain field at any time, and a finite amount of time people have to form relationships with new business partners, fill out contracts, do deals, and facilitate service RP. It's the same reason why it's hard for breweries to find long-term clients to purchase liquor from them, or why it's hard for trucking companies to find businesses interested in more in-depth trucking and delivery RP, and so on. On average it takes me about 2 real life hours to meet with a new prospective client. Whether or not we ICly do any business, that is at least 2+ hours that I have spent on them, and though there's room to make the RP different, it kinda follows the same pattern every time so it's not really the most interesting RP to do over and over. The majority of prospective clients either fall out of contact due to IRL playtime differences, because they realize it's going to be more RP/effort than they wanted, because they decided on an alternative, or they just decided they're too greedy to pay a small premium to support someone else's RP. Over and over again, this starts getting old. While you have the moral high ground and it sounds like a good idea from an RP purist perspective for companies to remain tightly focused, the bottom line is that it's just not tenable on our server. There is the ideal of what business on GTA:W would look like, but there's the reality of it. With the situation we have now, it's much more sustainable to have more diverse concepts out there because it allows for variety, flexibility, and it reduces RP overhead (time spent going out, meeting new companies, sitting down, going through the same exact negotiation and contract RP every single time, so on). We just don't have the playerbase on this server to expect that every single player-run company focuses on one really tight, focused niche. We just don't have the employees to go around, we don't have the RP to go around, and we don't have the real life time. But again, dude, don't let any of that dissuade you. If you enjoy towing RP and you are down to do your niche tow truck business, then do it. And do it the best out of anyone on the server. Sure, most people won't notice, but you'll attract your following of people who OOCly respect your efforts, and those are the people you'll want to RP with most.

  13. I think its time to reconsider the people running custody. The LSSD, in my experience, is uninterested in the project, and favors patrol over custody heavily. We do not get regularly scheduled events. They are spontaneous as to whenever enough guards are on, not AFKing their time, and willing to RP events like Commissary, Yard, and the like. I think if we move to Bolingbrook we should remain with the server lore that it is a Penitentiary, and should be RP'd as a Prison, a San Andreas Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as a separate faction, running the prison as their exclusive goal.

  15. Ernest here. First, thank you. I am a somewhat middle-aged man. I am not old. Forty-eight isn't old. I have a large group of friends with whom I enjoy going skating with and also surfing. I am a relatively religious dude. I pray (sometimes). I enjoy nature and animals (dogs). I am really interested in art, video games, skateboarding, surfing, and motorcycles. I used to ride with a club when I was thirty years old. I am now, unfortunately, in jail, but I am planning to go for parole sometime in the future, maybe soon. So I want to make some new friends and meet new people, so maybe when I do get out, we can enjoy similar interests and create strong bonds.
