Why do people identify civilians as "rats" immediately?

Crime's been curbed massively in the last 30 years. your point is that i need to magically know the affiliations of your characters and that you consider it poor that my characters don't fear them, despite being nowhere near where their power and influence is at it's strongest. im not as ignorant oocly, but ic ignorance i can portray however i want; im not obligated to do anything and the burden doesnt fall on me.

It's 21st century, age of surveillance. A - You never know who is watching and B - Even Mara Salvatrucha shotcallers in US encourage their members not to flash their colors everywhere they go. Cause many US states will now add to one's sentence if they are proven to be a gang member. Not to mention one more thing, which is even more saddening. Somalia infact has lower crime rate than Los Santos here and there are quite few "unprovoked" gang attacks on civilians every day.

Not only that. If the police discovers than an unknown person is affiliated with them, that might lead to more polices asking questions and the swat gently knocking their doors.

At the 21st Century. Criminality moved to the Age of Stealth, the information is valuable, whoever has less information about their rivals has the advantage. At the point than people thinks properly their movements because they don't know if the police is really waiting for them to blow up their cover.

to cap a point and bring the thread back to the rails it belongs; people who identify civilians as rats got bigger fish to fry, primarily concerning themselves, their portrayal and their expectations.

fact of the matter is that gtaw is iraqi terrorist town roleplay and many legal roleplayers choose to portray it as such; the streets are barren because nobody can roleplay outside at any time without the risk of getting murked and the people that rag on about civilian roleplayers are partially the cause for that: if we saw less shootings and more fights, more insults, more yelling, screaming and threats, things'll normalize.

people complain that they can't sell drugs. why? because there's a 50 percent chance that your dealer'll rob you. people complain that they can't find tricks as pimps and can't sell their prostitutes proper. why? same reason. people complain that non-illegal characters drive everywhere while taking a walk on a main boulevard at /any/ time is enough exposure to get you robbed. matter of fact, last time i did that, i had two attempts by two different groups in the span of 5 minutes. people complain that folk frequent nightclubs while those are reliably safe locations where your character'd be safe; where security is present, folk are there in the dozens and there's a place to interact and socialize where you wont get targeted randomly.

and yes, the great outdoors counts too. like vespucci beach? wanna hang there? better not be caught lacking and kill blacked out bf-400/sanchez riders on sight or they'll paste aiming their stolen pf guns at your head and report you. better walk off once you see peckerwood faction nr 14 approach you, claiming that an area that's largely a tourist trap is "their turf" and that you dont belong there. better get your mind straight when a 14 year old hispanic character comes around and starts flirting with you and then has you beaten up/abducted when you turn him down.

you can't complain that legal roleplayers are like that when public roleplay is largely closer to baghdad than los angeles and where you have to constantly look over your shoulder unless you want to be added to somebody's faction/character thread or dm video for telling them to kick rocks.

this. literally this. you also better avoid calling the cops at all or you might end up getting killed for "snitching" because people seem to think even civilians are part of some secret mafia organization's omerta which makes you fair game if you dare dial 911 on your phone

Goes both ways, from reading this thread both legal and illegal role-players have their ideas of what needs to be done/changed to make the server and roleplay as a whole better.

Personally I think that from this little exchange of ideas a middle ground can be found and worked on to make it all better.

Illegal RPrs treating it less like 1992 and stop thinking that they or their set need to be feared outside of their community.

Legal RPrs refrain from self-insert Mary Sue nonsense that is so rampant and stop bitching when their number does come up and they get robbed/killed.

Maybe the most vocal for each side should put their heads together and submit a thread to the staff on what they come up with, worth a shot.

You've expressed your views, you've argued, you've made good points. Now do something.

When their number is up? You mean like 2-3 times a day? Cause thats the reality in LS.

Wanna actually add something or just complain more? The whole point has been missed, yes we all know robbery is too high. Yes Illegal RPrs shouldn't be robbing on main street or within views of camera's and all the other things that have been aired out a million times in this thread. WE ALL KNOW and people have repeated your parroted statement ad nauseum.  The whole post is about looking for solutions not beating the dead horse some more.

If you wanna add something come up with solutions and particle ones at that.

From my experience, I've seen that the players catalogued as rats aren't just civilians, but in general people who have no depth and development in their characters and just idle around some place socialising all day or doing shallow/trollish roleplay, fucking around, provoking the police, never regarding realism when it comes to money, whatever you can think of.

Proper civilians will never be called rats and should be proud of themselves when doing it right.

Lemme put it this way, IF people need actual guidance and someone telling them what should they do. Then maybe they shouldn't roleplay in first place. All complains that ever been posted on forums from anyone...are common sense. Nothing else.
