if thats the case then its a good system

To touch on this as the Unit Commander for the Parole Operations Bureau.

Anyone who is being sentenced to jail is able to get parole unless it's prohibited by the courts (court case with the sentencing of no parole), however, an individual needs to have served 50% of their time before they can apply.

If someone gets sentenced for a crime he committed which sentences him to 6 hours of jail time, then there is almost no way he will be able to get parole before his time is up. It requires him to have served 3 hours of his time and then he has to file an application which needs to be reviewed by staff. You can imagine that this can not be done within those 3 hours before he has served his sentence. Not to mention that we had several applications where people lost interest after seeing they had less than x amount of time left.

Parole seems to be heavily popular by people who either voluntarily sign up for that or who have actually been sentenced for a couple of days. People who only have ~4 hours remaining on their sentence don't want to get into a system where they will have surveillance and will have to meet conditions. They'd rather wait for the time to count down and be over it.

Furthermore, if someone who is on parole breaks his parole conditions, then he will be sent back to jail to serve the remainder of his time. (If he got released on parole with 5 hours remaining, he will have to sit through the 5 hours before he can get released. )

But yes, to answer your question, parole can reduce someone's time if they follow their conditions and if they don't mind doing a checkup every now and then.

Hey folks, I'm going to be bumping this thread to coincide with the new TTCF mapping (which will likely be live Tuesday or Wednesday!) and the recent leadership change. If anyone has any questions about the faction that you don't want to post here, feel free to send me a forum PM and i'll get back to you ASAP!

Is it true that the SD encourages all their new members to make an alt and join an illegal faction? Has this proven to be helpful in the long run with SD members better understanding the community as a whole instead of being locked away to only the SD (and LEO RP)? From my interactions, SD members have seemed to have a better grasp as to how to properly interact with gangs and violent neighborhoods, so obviously whatever you guys are doing is working. I'm just curious as to what work is being done behind the scenes to achieve these results.

We definitely encourage people to either have some illegal RP experience or get involved in it in some degree, though we do not mandate it. The goal of this is to show our members the huge effect that LEO roleplayers have on everyone that they interact with, whether good or bad. A good LEO roleplayer is someone who has no OOC interest in making an arrest or "winning" a situation but instead attempts to roleplay a realistic character who happens to be a cop. This type of LEO roleplayer interacts with the community with the goal of enhancing everyone's roleplay, regardless of "winning" or "losing" the situation ICly. On the flip side, a bad LEO roleplayer can very easily ruin weeks or months of someone's character development with twenty minutes of play-to-win "roleplay" or some robocop BS. The worst part is that they can do this without violating any of the server's rules, and it's very tough to enforcer this on a server wide administrative level. The Sheriff's Department leadership condemns any sort of play-to-win mentality and we've punished, demoted, and even OOCly removed players for this specific reason.

As for our progress so far, I can only go from the community feedback that we receive, which for the most part has been positive. I believe that our culture of providing quality policing roleplay has been successful up to this point, though there is and always will be room for improvement. And to answer your question, I do believe this is in part due to the fact that we have so many people who started out in illegal roleplay who have come to the faction.

Might have to make an SD alt just based off this comment, love it!

Questions related to the new mapping, This kind of came out of the blue.. Is there a preview to see? Have issues with the current TTCF mapping been amended in this new version? What's the ETA?

Absolutely. I have been giving tours our to members of PD, DOJ and several illegal faction leaders and have implemented a few small changes from their feedback. I'd be more than willing to take more people on a tour if I could get in game though it seems the powers that be want me to go outside and enjoy the sunshine for a few days.

As for the issues with the mapping these are kind of what we've been hearing a lot of and we addressed.

* Cramped Interiors - The new interiors are much larger and offer more space to move your camera around and roleplay in new and dynamic ways throughout the jail, for PD this will be showcased in the much more accessible sally port and processing area with custom mapped holding cells, search rooms, and photography rooms. For inmates, wider hallways, more nooks and crannies, etc will allow places for people to interact and roleplay in an open environment. The previous cell blocks were done exceptionally well and will remain but much more open areas with fewer cramped hallways, including 90% of the jail being accessible without a guard's escort will hopefully alleviate the issues.

* Doors and locations not working - I've extensively bug tested the jail along with Bombie, Lambchops and Keane and we've done almost everything we can to make every location work. Obviously bugs will remain and we'll have to weed them out, we hopefully got the majority of them ironed out and the remaining ones noted down for future work.

* Lack of stuff to do - The new jail will include multiple areas accessible to all inmates regardless of when custody deputies are on duty, including a commissary, library, chapel, showers and about a half dozen other rooms with more to come. This comes with script support for the commissary which will hopefully simulate a working economy.

* Lack of jail staff - Although not really based on mapping, the Sheriff's Department has had a 150% increase in time spent in the jail which results in an average of 14 hours of man hour per day in the jail. Our goal is consistent staffing and while this is something to be expected in the future, we will be implementing a part time "custody assistant" program which will be a civilian position for members of other factions to develop a civilian staffer character who works as a non-sworn jailer to cover some of these dead spots. There's been a lot of interest in this position from both LEO and criminal roleplayers and I truly do hope this allows for engaging custody based roleplay as much as possible.

As for the ETA, it's been pushed back a day or two simply because of the server's issues the last 48 hours and we can expect it to be put into place for some intensive testing very soon.  I should also take a moment to thank the amazing mappers; Trigger, PlayerX, Beatrix and Popsicle for their hard work in making the jail up and their research to make it as lifelike to a California institution as possible.

Wasn't exactly sure which topic to ask this question in since it relates to both LEO factions.

How are property searches and seizures done by the LEO side? Is it like illegal /breakin where an admin spectates and lets them know if they find something in specific spots or is the LEO side just given access to everything inside the property? I assume every single property search utilizes K9 to sniff out any narcotics and firearms?

Speaking as an administrator, it is very similar to how criminal breakins happen. They use the same system if they need to search the residence and the administrator has to be a neutral third party, so if the player doesn't have the location set for everything it's done fairly. While dogs can be used, it's not mandatory.
