  1. it's a fair observation, football/soccer seems to be different in the usa and it's definitely down there in priority given that american teams aren't very good at it, i've observed leagues from around the world for sports trading purposes and us major league soccer has a higher than average goal count and red cards (sending off players) are much more frequent as far as popularity goes i've read that it has some traction in seattle and los angeles but that's about it, other than nbc trying to host english premier league on occasion cricket being the second most popular makes me almost relate to the football/soccer critics here i can actually understand this every time i see football/soccer in american tv or movies it looks much different to what i'm used to, it's almost always a kids' sport, usually a girls' sport, i mentioned above that i followed some major league soccer in the past and it seems like everyone scores all the time (the league has a higher than average goal per match count) and punishments are far more frequent, it's definitely not a sport that the usa has much grasp on in england it's a staple for most young boys and many grow up further with it in their lives and the english premier league being so massive worldwide definitely is a motivation rugby comes second and is more taken on by northerners i think, and cricket is more popular with either posh people or minority groups (usually south asian/caribbean communities) i don't know what the usa's angle is but occasionally i'm trying to watch a football stream and nbc is hosting it with american commentators for some reason, maybe they're trying to import some interest
  2. i was actually wondering this myself, i've seen this joke used all over the thread and elsewhere in general discussions but in my experience british (i assume people specifically mean english) characters don't seem as rampant on the server as they're made out to be
  3. yeah football (or soccer if you're fancy), you can play it up in east vinewood (near mirror park) on the football pitch, i think it was added around the time of the world cup
  4. i recall the football field being up near mirror park in east vinewood, i played it with a friend a few months ago and the script's not bad, there's no demand though it seems i strongly agree though a skill system would be excellent and encourage many of us into rp we might not otherwise consider doing, i've seen it done poorly on some samp servers and still believe that it's done better when nobody's obligated/forced to do it, but instead they only gain by taking part
  5. and if you put them in, i think it's going to come back to people complaining about rpg features again like they used to a few years ago i'd personally like to have script motivations to run and such
  6. my character having lived in ls since 2017 seems to be as close as i'll get to finding any ls natives, almost everybody is from somewhere else which is reasonable but there's a lot of it
  7. people do this often like they're playing habbo hotel or something, i just assumed the server accepted it because of how widespread it is
  8. i'm aware that this preceded the update but since quality of life is the topic of discussion here, how come withdrawals/deposits require mouse usage? was it by popular demand? it used to be /withdraw or /deposit followed by [amount]
  9. they're a little predictable and not remotely out of the ordinary in rp servers, it's well and good that you see them irl but that doesn't mean we need that monotony here maybe i'm alone in thinking so but once you've seen one stereotype character you've seen them all and there isn't much entertainment value in it, it also doesn't really require much effort either
  10. didn't expect such sensible input in this thread every time people want this kind of roleplay they go in assuming players (specifically those who want to become involved in that rp) are rational people and this just isn't the case, it's usually an outlet instead wtf when did you come back
  11. some people become so confused about what rp is, they may think it's fine for an 18 year old woman and a 46 year old man to appear in the city around the same time, regardless of whether the character's story has them being an existing resident or newcomer, and be required to do menial work and build up their wealth, completely ignoring what preexisting assets they may already have when you refer to "development" i don't know if you mean economic development (building funds/wealth) but if so then you nailed it, because how much fictional work exists where we're actively following characters in their extremely uninteresting work life, it mostly happens off screen
  12. and basically playing it as habbo hotel/second life it didn't used to be like this and i seem to be the weird one for noticing the shift that happened some time between 2018 and now in my opinion this is "true" roleplay that avoids all the rpg parts, "rpg" being a very dirty word in this community from what i recall i think the 5k per hour starting money was put in place to try and achieve this in the first place, and it still could if it was enforced better
  13. seems like some people are waking up to the realisation that striving for complete realism is impossible
  14. because a small portion of players seem to be extremely selective in the realism they want in the server, this was evident whenever minorly inconvenient features were suggested and people argued against them because they were "too rpg", this is the player interaction version of that on top of that it seems like the desire for realism among the same players is too demanding, as if they want this to be a 100% real life simulator to forget that it's a game and they can't completely live out their fantasies on it i even believe that the frequency of robberies is blown out of proportion, i was the perfect target when i played again after two years because i did taxiing for two months and there's no rules against calling taxis and robbing them, i got robbed/kidnapped twice, got one voided for poor rp - i had things to complain about but crime wasn't really one of them, i've also done regular civilian activity on my main or alts (walks, jogging, going to bars, cycling) and again, my issues were always to do with civilians and poor rp rather than being approached by any criminals (not that they don't exist) i'm really not sure if people want crime to exist but only if it doesn't inconvenience them, or if they want it gone completely, and if the "poor portayal" argument is an excuse for "i hate losing my things" (speculation)
  15. sounds like most of the internet in the last decade
  16. do you have any opinions on blackjack? i've only played it once in the server and had a good time
  17. Apart from agreeing with 100% of your reply, this one sticks out the most, and it goes beyond black characters. There's every kind of non-black character speaking in AAVE and it's very disorienting. I don't know if it's distinctly meant to be part of their character, or they're just not trying and their OOC desire to be cool kicks in and bleeds into their character. It's even worse when they're blatantly not American and bad English starts mixing in.
  18. I'm going to be that pedantic person and say 180CM is really more 5'11, 5'9 is about 175CM. There's a joke somewhere about two inches making a difference. Anyway I completely agree with you, it should be more of an estimate, I think of attributes as a glance thing, the average person looking at another person is not going to get it accurate all the time and for that reason players should be encouraged to make it more vague.
  19. yeah, in game i've only been to rockford casino and it feels immersive enough i was at a table with several other people playing blackjack, everyone cheered each other on and had some chatter, overall a good time 9/10 times the people who criticise any kind of betting/gambling are the ones who lose at it or are too afraid to have fun with it but that's another subject i'm not really sure what most of these people expect from a casino, this is pretty much how it goes bar the improvements you mentioned, or requiring the dealer to speak more before starting the next game, i can't see much that can be done about it, some people are here with actual improvements for casinos and others seem to be complaining about it like it shouldn't exist on the server at all
  20. Good attributes, right to the point. Still need to meet the old man like I've been meaning to.
  21. The only gripe I have with these is that it can be a lot of details to remember if I want to cite them mid-conversation, other than that they're good when they cover everything that can't be done through the game.
  22. Some might disagree but that's what I thought when I saw this one. I didn't catch the whole thing, it was roughly five to six lines of body descriptions. I'm not sure why we'd need to know about their hands, for example.
  23. I've seen countless people complain about the GTAO character creation, that could be it, but I think most of these people skipped fictional writing in school, or have never read a book in their life. I like this because it's only four lines long and contains important information, I'd argue that the hair one doesn't need to be there because we can see it, but it isn't a massive problem. This one's good, could do with some shortening but otherwise decent. Not much to say, they included vital information, it could be broken up/shortened a little but good still.
  24. I could swear there's a massive difference between people on the forums and the average player in game. Anyway, here's my contribution. I screenshot a lot of these. Can someone tell me if these kind of /attributes are even allowed? Aren't they meant to be objective? I have some more ridiculous/poorly written ones but they're too specific and identifiable. I saw someone use "appearance as seen" for part of their /attributes and I thought that was quite useful and considerate for other players who don't want to read an essay about nothing. Thoughts in /me and /do are vaguely against the MG rule but people still do it, I doubt anything's going to be done about /attributes unless they're blatantly bad.
  25. even then it's not exactly something you'd want to brag about either
