Department Portrait Photos Guide

I'm creating this guide to (hopefully) stop 1,000,000+ PMs from several players that roleplay in a variety of different factions throughout the server asking me to create them a department portrait photo for their character, similar to the one above. This guide will talk you through the start until the end of how to produce a photo similar to the one above. It's honestly not as difficult as it may seem to be once you know what you're doing!

This is guide is to create a basic version of the above, to edit the text on the nameplate is a little more complex but with a bit of photoshop knowledge, it's a fairly simple task. I won't go in depth with this as the detailed stuff is something you're able to somewhat learn yourself, it's easier done than said.

  1. Firstly, please follow @honey.'s guide on how to install and get setup with Menyoo, as well as importing your character:

  2. Next, you need to install the Emergency uniforms pack (EUP) which will provide you with the uniforms for your specified faction.

Law & Order contains textures for LSPD, LSSD and SAPR,

Serve & Rescue contains textures for LSFD.

  3. Using OpenIV and it'll bring up a box similar to the one below, click the below buttons that are highlighted with a red boxes to install EUP.

  4. To install any badge mods similar to the LSPD badge created by @Exodus, replace the original LSPD/LSSD badge files which are located below:

    mods/update/x64/dlcpacks/eup/dlc.rpf/x64/eup_componentpeds.rpf/mp_m_freemode_01_mp_m_january2016

If you're savvy with editing textures, here is where you'd export the texture from the YTD file for your nameplate. You edit it in photoshop and replace (fairly simple stuff).

  5. Now load your GTA V into Singleplayer and start Menyoo. You're able to boot this up using the F8 key, create your outfit in the Player Options menu. Once this is done find a fairly plain-ish wall and position yourself up against it similar to below.

  6. Press F9 (Spooner Mode) and right click your character using the green + symbol and check Enable Frozen In Place & Entity Is In Database.

Navigate to the bottom of the "freemode male" menu and click Ped Options > Animations. Scroll to the bottom of the Animation menu and select All Animations before typing: guard_male_base, click anim@amb@casino@peds@ and click the 21st option on the list (amb_world_human_stand_guard_male_base). This will put your character in an animation.

Once you characters in the animation, feel free to use the Manual Placement setting which is at the bottom of the menu to move your character around.

  7. Once your character is in place click backspace twice and go to Object Spooner, click Spawn Entity Into World and spawn an object in. I often opt to use a red cup (apa_prop_cs_plastic_cup_01). Move the object on the ground close your character.

  8. Right click your character again, scroll down to Task Sequence > Add New > Keep Looking At Entity and hit enter. Hit enter again, check Keep Task Running After Allocated Time and then select the object below.

Hit backspace and press enter on Status to turn the circle green. This should make your character look directly towards the object spawned. You're now able to right click the object again and use the Manual Placement option to raise it up - in line with your character's eyes.

  9. Press F9 again to come out of Spooner Mode, once you've done this then click F1 to start a recording to the Rockstar Editor. Let the recording finish before hitting F1 again to save the recording.

  10. Press ESC, go to Rockstar Editor > Create New Project > Add Clip > Clips by Date and select the top clip using enter. Capture a good angle photo using the Rockstar Editor before taking a screenshot of this.

  11. This next website will be your best friend when it comes to removing the background from your character, it's the free best tool I've been able to find throughout my time making these photos: https://www.erase.bg/upload

  12. Using this template, import both your character (with the transparent background) into photoshop and adjust over the template. It might take a little bit of trial and error to get it positioned correctly, but once you've mastered it it becomes very simple.

Once done, save the photo out as a PNG and you should have yourself a nice looking portrait photo! 😊

(This is what happens when people find out you've started making portraits)

    Additional useful tips & FAOs:

  • When you right click your object you're able to set this as a favourite using the checkbox at the top. This makes things very useful when spawning your object the next time.
  •  I always try to aim for around 7PM with the Extra Sunny weather.
  • You can disable the HUD overlay in the Rockstar Editor using the H key.
  • No. Don't PM me asking for me to make you one, stop being lazy.
  • I know there's a bug with the female's chevrons clipping, you'll just have to experiment with other animations so they don't clip.
