The most overlooked type of roleplay?

You don’t see very many characters that have children. The majority of the player base portrays relatively young characters and no one wants the responsibility of a child IG, but even if the child isn’t a large focus point of your character’s day to day story, it can make for some interesting points of character motivation.

This!

I came in here specifically to lament the lack of family-related rp in game. Proper character development requires an RPer to consider every aspect of a character’s life - where are all the family ties??  It seems like too many characters are out here all alone with no ‘people’ other than fellow gang members/friends or no responsibilities other than their jobs.

It’d be really nice to see more family-related RP, even if family members are NPCd.

I totally agree, all that needs to happen in game, not to be part of a background story. You can start as an alone character, new in the city, and then meet someone ICly, and roleplaying having a child, getting married, etc, while developping your character. What is hard is to meet the right people to roleplay all that with, but it definitely adds more depth to your character.

Yes!  And I get that not everyone wants to RP having a kid. Especially those of us who already have them in RL lol. But where are the moms and dads and grandparents?  Siblings, cousins?

In my short time here, I’ve seen some people establish family connections like these with other characters (or even NPC their existence in a way that impacts the character) but this doesn’t seem to be the standard for most.  I get that some characters are lone wolves and truly have no one - I don’t fault anyone for playing their character out in this way if that’s the case. But from what I’ve seen there seem to be way too many of those, and I suspect it’s more a matter of players simply overlooking the importance of family RP and how it can contribute to a character’s development.

  • Characters who don't say lads or mate or bloody, especially ones that are meant to be from the USA.
  • More characters born and bred in Los Santos with roots in Los Santos (ties into the idea of having NPC families and a tangible background to draw development from).
  • Systematic classism seems to be missing in a lot of places. I'd love to see more struggle (and probably more bigotry overall).
Ask yourself if you'd bang a homeless guy in life who smells of ten types of cheese, three kinds of mattress and two kinds of urine. If yes? Proceed as you will.
  • Characters over 30-35 with lifestyles and backgrounds that reflect their ages.
  • Believable levels of fear and the innate desire to survive. Fewer cowboy and vigilante civilians.
  • Focused roles and career trajectories that attempt to make sense. If you run a bar, you don't need to be a mechanic, model, porn-actor and restaurateur and fire-man and photographer. That's a grind, not a character.
  • Consequence, period. This exists broadly, particularly among illegal factions, but appears to be missing on the micro scale. It would be inspiring to see people embrace the consequences of their character's decisions or circumstances more often, which ties into the flaws and playing to fail arguments people have made already. Imposing limitations on a character will drive your RP and the RP around you. Instant-story creators.

There was some rp last year about a single mom and her teenage kids and their friends.  It was pretty fun, a lot of teenagers riding around on BMXs, the mom trying to make ends meet, and brothers and sisters fighting.

EDIT:  and, the mom's car was the station wagon with all the luggage on top!

Like a lot of other people said, more straight females.

To achieve that I think that means the server needs more female players.

Hell no, just means we need more mature RP'ers playing realistic female characters, they're not some alien species you can only emulate if you're a woman yourself.
