Escort businesses in and of themselves are fine to advertise, it's not really hurting anybody as long as they don't cross the line being too explicit. Additionally, from personal experience PD basically starts investigating you the minute they see an ad so it's not like many of these escort services last long.

But there's a huge difference between that and this:

Escort services are run by factions and groups and creates a ton of RP, frankly if you've ever watched a low budget TV channel after 1 AM chances are you've probably seen an ad. But what you've highlighted isn't an escort, it's an ERPer. If you were around when this was actually an issues you'd have seen the utterly weird and and frankly uncomfortably specific ads put out by people that you knew 100% they were getting off to this shit OOCly. To them /ad was their version of the search bar on Pornhub and that's why staff intervened in this shit.  For awhile ads like that were not allowed and you regularly saw people getting kicked for it but it seems staff has become pretty lax on the rule, I think if they just start enforcing it fully again this issue would go away.

However, I have a line in the sand when it comes to outright banning escort services from using ads or somehow diminishing their ability to advertise. It's a legal business and as long as they aren't breaking any advertisement rules it's fine. Those who are doing it well are subtle about it and those who aren't subtle get caught by PD. It's a natural solution that doesn't require major change.

This pretty much. Anything else is just wrong, and should not be allowed.

As long as the characters are actual characters rather than only money farming alts or ERP avatars, allow them to conduct their business in any vaguely realistic fashion, which includes independent work.

The rest is about /ads regulation, which mostly has to do with what /ad is supposed to represent, and that's pretty vague. Personals are already banned. As for services, as long as they're not blatantly illegal or explicit, the new ad system makes it a lot easier to ignore them anyway.

In theory yes, but as also mentioned-

And that's not my impression now since the ad-system change, that's been like that since I started here half a year ago (and isn't limited to sex jobs only technically speaking, looking-for-work happens normally too, when by rules it shouldn't).

It's indeed a lack of enforcing, the rules give it already to shut down any individual seeking a job through /ad on their own (that does include sex jobs too, naturally).

Except for ignorant specialists that don't get it there's not even punishments needed for this, the issue is the ad-standard is just too lax (up to the same people that typically cry loudest how ads are annoying spam being let go with spamming, but that's another story).

All that's needed to raise it is to pick out people giving up ads like above for a few weeks and tell them to stop it, accompanied with the occasional reminder to the community in an admin announcement to not use ads for (any kind of) job seeking individually.

Well these are basically prostitutes so I don't get it why they are advertising themselves like this. Go to a corner and hustle, I don't know how the prostitute/pimp scene is on this server but I'm pretty sure this ain't helping create that RP environment. I'm yet to see this, driving around.

100 percent in support of banning these kinds of ads as they do not promote roleplay.

In the sex service world, it's easier and safer to advertise one's services through advertisements than to stand on a corner.

"Standing on the corner" were more prominent in the 90s. Only time that it happens in the real world is when UNDERAGE females are offering services OR the escort/prostitute is regulated by a pimp in that area.

With all honesty, that is the issue, prior the new adverts system update you would've seen admin action taken against those players.

In real life, the way they advertise is either on the internet, or by spreading flyers offering discreet massage or escort. Fact is, it does not come onto main media (Radio, TV, News Papers) as you'd think compared to the internet where it's easy as heck to find such ads. So yes, since the ads system is serving us as Radio, TV, News Papers and other forms of media.. I agree, should not be allowed. Want to promote yourself as an escort? There's Facebrowser and the internet (IC forums section).

Escort adverts exist in newspapers in the "classifieds" section.

The pimping scene is straight bullshit for reasons exactly like this.

People create female prostitute chars that just post ads and fuck for money, just to name change after making possible millions in profit. It's just the way it goes.

They don't actually rp on those chars apart from their escort rp, they only log on to have sex.

This hurts the pimping scene as it makes it so all girls go independant as escorts, not allowing a pimping organization and it allows for clients just to call those numbers instead of looking for a well-built and polished prostitution ring, with which they could offer way more roleplay to the server.

In the real world, though, most women actually use the internet to ESCAPE pimps. Pimps have lost a good chunk of their power after the 90s, as women have become much more intelligent with fighting for their Rights as Sex Service Workers for safety, security, independence, and even government protection.

This is predominantly in North-America.

And they should exist in the IC internet section in forums or facebrowser. In my opinion /ad is too lazy and straight forwards

No, should be illegal. I live in California and it’s highly illegal. Sites like redbook/backpage were taken down specifically because of this kind of stuff. If it’s illegal irl, players should have to go through illegal means to advertise themselves as escorts. There’s two people that RP prostitutes around davis and walk around in high heels, simple as that.
