  1. Instagram, TikTok, twitter and other social media platforms within gang and civilian/student culture have exposed people to technology to a ridiculous amount compared to five years ago. There are so many advertisements for VPN and "browsing safe" nowadays which makes it very probable for someone who wants to hide illegal activities, to look into it and eventually end up using it. Just like people learned how to use burner phones and how to avoid tracing technology, they can put on a cheap VPN to protect themselves. Needless to say though, as others have mentioned, VPN doesn't fully protect you and you have to know more than that to actually protect yourself.
  2. OOC INFO This thread is meant to portray the lives of two gang officers assigned to South Central's Gang Enforcement Detail and their engagement with the community. Our intention is to portray realistic gang officers, drawing inspiration from the LAPD's Gang Enforcement Detail. In doing so, we try to provide the illegal community with good quality roleplay that's enjoyable for everyone, by upholding the current standards within LSPD's Gang Enforcement Detail. All current members of this screenshot thread and LSPD's Gang Enforcement Detail that we interact with, have the ultimate goal of providing quality police role-play to the community. We have years of experience in law enforcement RP on other roleplay servers and believe that police roleplay should be about roleplaying characters rather than a badge and a gun.
  3. I understand some of you don't like imitating LA, or that this is San Andreas, however you have to keep in mind that we have been given a massive opportunity by Rockstar Games with a game that is high quality and resembles Los Angeles to the best of it's ability. We should take advantage of that, especially as a heavy role-play server. There's nothing wrong with some rain here and there and weird weather from time to time, as that happens. I believe importing LA's weather real-time and importing a few custom-weather modes from time to time on developer/administrator discretion would contribute much more to the aesthetics of the game and the server as a whole. I believe that this direction, what we want to portray can be clarified by @Nervous and put this discussion to bed, about if it is wrong focusing on the direction of imitating what's happening in LA, or strictly keeping it fiction-only, or perharps doing a mix of both.
  4. A decision that was made two years ago does not accurately portray the server's current state and standards. Any community changes throughout the years and quality of life updates should happen to reflect the current community. Great illegal factions that encourage quality role-play and have gained trust throughout the community for their role-play standards and generally willingness to improve the server's illegal role-play state, should be rewarded accordingly, in my opinion.
  5. It all depends on your character development, I do not necessarily believe that "losing" in a situation matters as long as it benefits your character development. You have a chance of turning illegal in order to get out of extortion, or try to take it the legal way and hope for the best in-character. As for anything else, if I believed the role-play quality was bad from the people attempting to extort my character, I would just file a player report.
  6. I think there's no need for staff reports and/or a robotic system. I believe what Thomas means in his original post is more professionalism in terms of reasoning behind punishments. After all, I believe that staff members can have their own discretion in terms of reasons and so on, but a bit of professionalism in something the entire server can see wouldn't necessary hurt. As you can see below, this admin-jail reason is massive and covers up the entire screen, as well as the explanation of the entire situation. I personally believe it would be more beneficial in terms of professionalism and aesthetics if the reason below was amended, I'll provide an example below that. Suggested reason: Unrealistic driving & role-play, failure to role-play injuries. If said player wants further clarification (if it isn't blatantly obvious), the staff member can explain it in a quick manner. I believe that staff reports and anything else that has been mentioned has strayed further away from what Thomas originally suggested, that being a quicker, professional reason that points out to the rule that has been broken. I do not necessarily believe the example I have provided is robotic, though. At the end of the day, I certainly believe that it is up to staff members & management to decide how they want to run their staff, however, some constructive criticism doesn't hurt as long as everyone keeps it respectful. My two cents.
  7. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-08-06/lapd-whistleblower-swat-mafia-homeless There's definitely gangs, cliques or whatever you want to call them within law enforcement agencies with different goals and functions. However, you rarely get to hear about them because these incidents once found are covered up as people protest literally about anything nowadays. It is all about finding the right balance in regards to how to go about portraying something like this, considering the size of the playerbase compared to the real world, as well as the out of character knowledge. No one wants to see an unrealistic character from Training Day. I definitely hope these kind of cliques exist and if they do, then that is great as the last thing these role-players want is out of character attention.
  8. Won't that just push players to accept death more and role-play less with FD for new players? Just because there's illegal role-players who tend to get into shoot-outs with tons of cash doesn't mean your average new player has the money, since it is clear that there's more violence. Comparing what happens to real life in terms of costs with the actual violence in-game doesn't seem to be that productive. I fail to understand what this changes in terms of role-play apart from pushing new players with less cash to just accept death, since your average player without a lot of cash would see this as punishment (let alone the feeling of "loss when someone dies in-game). A hospital sector does sound interest however, on an off topic note.
  9. This is probably one of the best examples I've seen on this thread which compare legal role-play character kills with illegal role-play ones. If you expect law enforcement officers to be character-killed and not return to their previous positions, I believe there needs to be some sort of balance with illegal role-players being character-killed on a case-by-case basis, in regards to criminal charges (stack of felonies that someone wouldn't get out of prison for) and a specific shooting incident, on a more frequent basis. Everyone has fair points. You have to keep in mind that legal role-players who spend months out-of-character to reach the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain also spend months of their time doing out-of-character forum work, regulating other faction members out of character to regulate the standards and so on due to the faction's size. While on the other hand, illegal factions do not have the same size, they do not have forum-work and the ones who regulate the standards on an out-of-character basis is their leadership, while all others are focused on in-game role-play operations. I believe this more of a mindset issue that can easily be regulated by both legal factions. Most members who use alternative characters are higher ranked, where their "main" characters are not supposed to be out patrolling and doing regular police work. I believe a statement from both official law enforcement faction leaders, re-assuring the community that they are looking into the overall mindset of their members who use alternative characters, as well as being more harsh in terms of enforcing role-play quality & encouraging community members to report people, would do better. It is not worth comparing legal and illegal role-play back and forth, neither it is worth for law enforcement legal role-players to defend themselves as to why they should keep their rank. I believe our main goal as a community should be focusing on the quality of role-play first, then looking at all other alternatives, such as character-kills.
  10. I do not think it is productive to push for harsher sentences on illegal role-players. Sure, someone should have consequences over shooting at police officers or murdering another player, however you need to take into account that police officers and other law enforcement characters can just spawn in after a shooting incident and themselves involved in another situation. Personally, I'd only like to see harsher punishments to illegal role-players that are arrested from a case-file or a large scale investigation in order to provide balance legal role-players put into their investigation. I'd say if illegal role-players are performing unrealistic acts and constant back to back shootings, they should be dealt with on an administrative level. I also second what @Bospy said.
