How do you even enjoy GTAW?

It's possible to get connected with people, even without a faction. I came to this server like four to five years ago and didn't know anyone. Met the right dude at the right time and got my character involved with the bustling nightclub scene when that was still a thing. Bouncing at nightclubs, even developing a scheme around it after some time and lastly, a business.

Yes, it's possible. But it's rare. All I can say is put yourself out there and don't be afraid to come off as odd. These people won't remember you for saying something dumb. A shot never taken is a shot always missed.

Alternatively, suck your way into a faction and skip all of this. It's really up to you, but the best characters grow naturally. It's a process, no doubt about it, but it can be done.

Like many have said, make a group of friends that you hang out with and RP with, or maybe find someone to do family RP with even if your characters end up doing different things / joining different factions.

I think it could be a fun dynamic to have a family member who’s legal and one who’s not. Or both on the same side of the law or this or that. Possibilities are endless.

echoing what others have said, join a faction… some are fun, some are not.

if you don’t want to join a faction then join a business IC, get hired in an active business and meet people that way. There’s plenty of good and active businesses out there.

Like people have already said, factions or businesses are your best bet to find people and make connections. Don't wanna be in a faction? Apply for an RP job in a player-owned business, make friends with colleagues. Maybe RP your average dude-next-door living in an active neighbourhood. Find reasons for people to interact with your character. Approaching random people on the street does mean you often end up getting ignored, since... you're a stranger to them and people can be creeped out by randoms they don't know starting to talk to them out of the blue. Setting ambitions for your character, starting from nothing and working towards their goals can add a sense of progress in RP setting, which can also keep the game interesting.

I ended up joining ULSA on my first char in the server and had people to RP with immediately, while still being pretty much independent (no, we don't ALL stand in circles around campus 24/7 and most people have a ton of RP going on outside of university). She went on to get an internship at a record label, made connections in the entertainment industry through that and eventually, after graduation, ended up running her own film studio. Constant character development is probably what has kept me playing her until this very day.

I also get bored sometimes when there is not much going on. My solution in these cases is to just log off, do something else and hop back on later when some people I know have come online. Doing your own passive RP alone is also a thing, although it's admittedly not for everyone.

All in all, try to find a reason for people to talk to you and hopefully you'll end up finding your place in the GTA:W ecosystem.

tbh, I started off in 2019 and as time goes on, for me personally its the connections and the friends u make along the way that become more important than rp, yeah like rp is important, but when you know most factions, most players, and you talk shit/troll/meme with them on a regular basis, i feel like I enjoy that more now, but still thats just me yo

If you're up for it, you can also start your own thing and start a group yourself. If you put an idea out there that's fun, then other people are gonna want to join you.

Im thinking LEO rp in january for the first time

LEO RP is a good way to get your foot in the door thanks to the inherent structure. Patrolling with partners and hanging around the station is a good way to create or get involved in different RP scenes. But this does also mean that more of a spotlight is going to be put on your character, their personality and how they interact with other people.

Different LEO factions also have different cultures, IC and OOC. They also have generally different patrol zones, so if you want to RP in one area in particular over others, I'd do some digging. I'd be happy to answer any questions you've got too.

Hey Jerm,

I'm currently venturing outside of my comfort zone and going alone for a change, I'm normally in a faction. I've made a homeless character but he's not your traditional drug addict etc., Teddy is just a loner, goes about his day as he walks the streets, doesn't even beg (much). I was surprized at how much interaction Teddy has received from others just seeing him.. He has LEO's pulling over to talk to him also taking the time out to talk when he's at his tent in Mission Row. He has others buying him food and drink and so on without even begging for it..

I feel a big part of your enjoyment comes from those around you and the only thing you have to offer is something a little different that grabs the interest of those around you at the time.
I logged in yesterday and all I did was walk from Mission Row to Del Perro beach, with the odd trash can dive here and there, and I had so many people approach me for an interaction and it makes the slower RP a lot more enjoyable.
Try something outside of your comfort zone for a change and you may surprize yourself.

Define what would satisfy you in a roleplay setting, then do that.

I enjoy gray characters who do legal and illegal activities at the same time. I make them friendly individuals so that I can easily interact with more people. I start very young and as their story progresses I watch them get old. I watch them go through their experiences and live as a human being.

To me, you seem like you could enjoy interacting with a clique more. If factions aren't for you, you could try already big legal scenes such as casinos, communities, schools, nightclubs etc. You could just be a person who does their own thing with their own connections; however I believe that wouldn't sound so fun for you.

You're going to have to visit clubs and bars and talk to people instead of waiting for things to happen. You're going to have to break ice with a lot of people because they will be waiting for you to break ice just as you are waiting for them.

The community here is very large so to say you're disconnected from the server may or may not be true depending on how far you've dived.

If you want to be independent but want to do things like sell drugs, guns, or gray-area stuff, you're going to have to grind the initial hours of being a nobody. You'll have to be an interesting person,  a more upfront and direct person, spend more money, and take more risks than most people establishing connections because that's just the way it is as an independent roleplayer. However keep in mind that you're allowed to roleplay with factions without joining them. You can always work your way as an "acquaintance" in order to keep your individuality while establishing connections, resources, and friends.

I think I would say the way to enjoy GTA:W is to explore possbilities instead of waiting for opportunities. Roleplay with different crowds and find the one that you want to roleplay with, not just the people who are available to you. Lastly, be interesting but not the main character. Treat yourself as a freaks and strangers missions, ultimately leaving people behind with a little memory and going about your business until the next time you see them you know?

Some final footnotes, you can't take things too personally because ultimately everybody's experience is vastly different. Some people play on smaller monitors, shittier pcs, different reading and typing speeds, outside distractions, different first languages etc. It's just best to realize that when people do give you their attention that it should be appreciated. (However sometimes you need to remind people the /highlight will add color text to the target for easier for identification)

As for LEO rp... you'll have a lot to do but you'll have to interact with both spectrums of the server's population. Good luck!
