Solving the looting issue

Hello everyone, following a staff meeting we've been trying to tackle the issue of looting that is rampant of the server and that leads to more & more bans / punishments everyday.

While it is realistic for guns to be lootable because in your everyday life if you die the gun is often working and can be picked up, since we're in a game this feature leads to unrealistic situations all the time where players rush for bodies & run around to loot corpses for guns.

 

We've discussed it and ended up with the following solution to end this unrealistic behavior :

 

Guns will now break on wounded / death IF :

- You're in dimension 0

- You have been shot

This means that you'll be able to pickup the gun but you won't be able to use it at all and it'll appear as a "Broken Glock" for example. Same if you give the gun to a friend, it'll not be usable.

 

If you're revided by FD (treated for your wounds) or by an administrators (your friends treat your wounds and /request a revive after) your guns will be automatically usable again. A command for admins to re-enable guns will also be added.

 

This means that this change will not impact OOC random deaths (car crashes, falling, fist fighting, interior deaths) or murders in interiors where it would be realistic to loot someone.

 

This solution will completely get rid of the looting issue, stop the countless punishments given everyday despite it being forbidden in rules so we believe it'll help the server in having more realistic "after gun fights" situations and less bad mentalities, less random murders.

We do want to share it with the community to see if you have identified issues we did not identified with this sytem, or have better suggestions, before this change goes live.

If it's broken, could a gun specialist be given the ability to repair it? I know this may still result in said issues continuing, but it also gives a gun specialist another task, unless you're just aiming to take more weapons off the server.

Will this be a way to give Weapon Specialists more ways to contribute? Or these items just become trash/unusable?

So would these “broken” guns have an option to be fixed by weapons specialists or would they just end up being unusable for good? 
 

Because as it sits, why even have a “broken” gun. It seems to just be a waste of script resources. 
 

also if it’s serialized will the serial then get sent over to the “broken” gun for tracing etc purposes.
