Regarding traffic lights...

People don't stop at red lights often. This is why we have so many traffic collisions that people just void by themselves with the excuse of "de-sync" or "lag", even though they were doing 120 in their Panto through Pillbox Hill. As others have stated, the lights are synced and the laws back that up. It is also officer discretion to write you a citation for it.

I’ll explain it in plain English. I know some people to stay to stop for a second but this is not what the PC legislates, though I personally slow down to either a stop or almost a stop to check both ways at a red before proceeding.

This is incorrect. Nervous and Brett clarified this back in September. I saved the post just for an occasion like this lol. Red does mean come to a complete stop first, then go if no one is there. Treat it as a stop sign, basically. Green + yellow mean go.

As did Brett:

Quote

The Penal Code specifies although with more legalese language, that you are to stop at a red light before proceeding.

1212.) If, upon approaching a junction containing traffic lights the traffic light displays a red light the driver must stop to other vehicles before continuing. If there are no other vehicles at the junction, the driver may proceed cautiously through the junction. If the traffic light displays a yellow light that is going to a green light, then it is to be treated as a green light. If the traffic light displays a green light, the driver is not required to stop, and may pass through the intersection without stopping. Shall be charged with the applicable Title IV charge. (EX: Reckless Driving, Negligent Operation of Vehicle, Vehicular Endangerment)

This.

Plus, I usually stop at green lights as well, it's just a basic survival instinct at this point.
