Having connections is very important.

I mean seriously, so many of my characters, the only reason they're IC'ly successful is because they have connections to people. To give them jobs, opportunities, help/support, etc. Goes for real life as well. You can't do everything alone, unless you're really lucky. It helps to know people you can trust.
