  3. December 19, 2008-present Early Life: Oscar Bernal Flores’ family immigrated illegally to the United States when Oscar was barely a year old (Oscar Bernal Paris Sr. and Rosa Flores Rubio). Moving into a run-down residence in east Los-Santos, el Burro Heights, he was raised by his mother his entire childhood due to his father’s deportation. Money was tight before, but with the loss of the family’s primary breadwinner the hardship only became worse. Oscar’s mother worked multiple jobs to feed and clothe him. She wasn’t home often and neither was Oscar. Between school and his mother’s back-to-back shifts, they only interacted at the dinner table oftentimes. Oscar learned to take care of himself, but often it was older gang-members who were there for him. As Oscar grew into a young man, he interacted with thugs more and more. He imitated the prominent figures in the street gangs. He started talking like them and dressing like them. He started to take school less and less seriously, straining his relationship with his mother. The gangs started to take more notice of him as they did with every kid. He occasionally did negligible errands for the gangs, but nothing serious. Growing up in KAM13 controlled streets, Oscar must navigate his way through his life.
