I hail from the hellscape that is VOIP GTA RP servers, and everyone and their brother had on masks. 9 times out of 10, it's irritating and immersion breaking in a place like GTA World (not necessarily for VOIP servers, but for heavy-realism text based). It sounds contrarian, but if we let this happen, pretty soon our LCN factions will start wearing pinstripe fedoras and we'll have color-coded Yakuza gangs.

 

When was the last time you looked out your window and saw somebody wearing a mask? And hey, coronavirus doesn't count since it ain't part of the lore.

literally what are u talking about 90% of the masks ppl are talking about are ski masks (aka shiesties) which are extremely common and considered fairly fashionable amongst certain subcultures. no one is advocating for the level of immersion displayed below lmao

I don't see the issue here to much extent. If it's an IC issue, there should be IC solutions. If it's garbage roleplay, then it's an OOC problem.

Take away the feature that hides character's name tags for a day and see how that works out. If people want to portray realistically, then they shouldnt have a problem with this. If they suspect metagaming, they can always report, right? Doesn't require any new rules either.
