It's not anybody's obligation to teach somebody how to role-play after they've already joined a role-play server, that responsibility is on the player.

It's not, you're absolutely right. But that's why it turns some people away. Since the server already has a low population, why not do something different to what has been done before? Why not turn all these bans on players who don't understand the basics, into, as Cici said: a roleplay lecture. Some may find this cringe, but it's whatever. There are people willing to learn and there are people willing to teach. It's a win-win situation for all. You get an active player and a good roleplayer, rather than hoping that already established roleplayers come to the server or someone teaches themselves after having a ban for not being able to roleplay, permanently on your record. Some may not like this on their record and end up learning and joining other servers. There are plenty of brand new people joining GTA:W, there was one just yesterday.

As for the application, if you put in a little effort, you can pass it. You can look at the rules on the forums, google examples and put them in. Testers tell you what you are missing even if you don't put it in the first time. But some may not actually fully understand what they are writing unlike the rest of us, especially when it's not taught to them. Self-learning is something many people do not have the time or the motivation to do. This is pure speculation on my part, but I'd like to think that person would then be more loyal to the server and to the people who taught them, eventually staying around to become active community members. These people can then spread good words about this community, to their friends or whoever and eventually because of word of mouth, more people come in! It's a no-brainer in my opinion!

You have to remember, it's easy for the rest of us to say all of that when we have years of experience on several communities. If it doesn't work out, then it is what it is. If they troll, half the server are admins anyway so they'll be banned before they can do any damage. Not to mention you can easily tell who's serious about wanting to play and who's not. I'd like to hear your input on this @Nervous!

need roleplay enhancement lectures for 90% of the server

Dude, you've had like 2-3 faction threads in a row archived for copying and now started a white supremacist faction in a predominantly african-american neighborhood in which you're the only player. Please don't condescendingly lecture others on how "90% of the server needs RP lectures"
