Senators Take a Stand Against Lieutenant Governor Noah Wade Following Alleged Attack on Democracy

Written By Gabriel Stone, 29/11/2023

MFyutkT.pngIn a recent interview with three senators, disturbing accusations of alleged undemocratic practices within the state’s Senate has emerged. Democratic Senators Isabel Garcia and Diana Jones, alongside Republican Senator Andrew Brandenburg, sat down together on the 28th of November to shed light on what they perceive as not only a threat to the democratic process, but authoritarian behaviour by Lieutenant Governor Noah Wade.

On the 27th of November, the senate held a floor vote session for Proposition 135, also known as the Law Revision Commission Act, introduced by Senator Adrian Rossi. The proposed legislation aimed to establish a committee of legal experts tasked with reviewing existing laws and ensuring their alignment with the state and national constitutions.

The Senators expressed their collective concerns about the proceedings during the session discussing the bill. According to Jones, the issues began with the proposition of a new committee. “I made the argument that we already have a body for that specific duty: the Senate.” Said Jones, citing the absence of several senators as being the primary reason that the Senate is not fulfilling its duty.

The situation escalated when Lieutenant Governor Noah Wade arrived to alleviate the President Pro Tempore Adrian Rossi of running the floor vote session, making Wade the acting President of the Senate. Rossi was able to then join the debate regarding the bill he proposed, as he was unable while overseeing the senate. “Now, clearly, this is intended for situations wherein the President Pro Tempore is unable to attend or is removed from his position, but the way it was used in this session is to skirt around the rules to let Adrian Rossi say his piece. “ stated Jones. Brandenburg added "When Rossi realised I won't support his bill, Wade appeared all of a sudden" claiming that the move had been a deliberate move to increase the amount of votes the bill would receive.

That, however, was supposedly only the start of a series of events considered by each senator to be undemocratic attempts at preserving the otherwise unsupported bill. “It was what happened next that the concerns became more severe.” said Jones as she moved on to explain what came next. Lt Governor Wade next called a recess and Stein arrived towards the end of the recess.

K9wUofF.pngWhen asked what happened following Stein’s arrival, Brandenburg explained that everyone was keen to start until Rossi abruptly needed to leave. “The eagerness to continue wavered, of course.” He continued, stating that Senator Branch Goodwater then needed to leave. “When Noah Wade saw that his supporters had to go, he started stalling, pretending not to see, not to hear.” He claims that Wade began to act senile and began to chat with the superintendent present as if they were not mid-session. Allegedly both Brandenburg and Jones told Wade to resume and were ignored the first time. “Then, when we insisted, he acted like he didn't realise what was happening and started stalling” he added, claiming that Wade was “Avoiding the vote at all cost” However, things would continue to proceed along the same line as Wade moved to the podium and claimed there was no quorum, meaning the minimum amount of senators necessary to pass a vote. However, there was a quorum with Jones, Garcia, Brandenburg and Stein. Brandenburg stated that he believed the following actions by Wade were a signal for Stein to leave and break quorum. Wade then began to state he needed to look through the ‘Standing Rules and Regulations’, though this is something Jones, Garcia and Brandenburg are in agreement was dishonest acting “Wade knows the rules by heart.” stated Brandenburg.

The transcripts confirm this, showing Wade saying “One moment, I need to brush up on my.. Standing Rules knowledge” Only to be accused by Jones of ‘Stretching for time’ before she quickly explained the rules. He responded with “Very well, I needed to confirm the rules” however when the session proceeded, Garcia claims “Stein magically started to have a panic attack” before needing to leave, “Thus, removing quorum” added Brandenburg. The big question at hand is why, if all this is true as the senators say, should such attempts be made at swaying the vote for this bill? Well the senators delved deep into what they consider an ulterior motive towards Wade increasing his control over the state. They questioned why they were so desperate to win, why it was so important to have the commission that they needed to step on the rules, and why endanger democracy for this? Additionally, they questioned who Wade and Rossi might have promised places to sit in the commission, noting that Wade allegedly has a history of ‘stepping over the Senate through Executive Orders’ and that one should look closely at Wade’s actions since his appointment.

Ktu7dQk.png“It’s common practice for Wade to step in to save Rossi with the votes" the senators agreed. Yesterday was a farce and this bill is a moot piece of legislation that will only serve to incentivise the laziness we see today with a select few Senators. Keeping people in power who simply vote for Wade's agenda.” stated Garcia, though Brandenburg felt the motive was far darker than that “We already have the Committee for Judicial Review which does exactly that, but it's still made of Senators, who are there for the people. This commission would basically be a select group, an inner circle of friends chosen by Wade. And they'd basically dictate everything.”

Wade, the senators say, is supposed to be an impartial body yet the hand-picked commission would propose law changes. These would then be sent to the Senate and Wade would allegedly use his influence within the GOP to make use of the majority to pass his commission’s proposals. “Thus creating an imbalance of power, which although might seem democratic, it's a totalitarian method.” He said, calling it “Dictatorship through democratic instruments” which Jones fully agreed with. Lastly, asked what they will do should the alleged behaviour continue, The senators stated finally “If this continues, we will do everything it stands in our power to protect democracy and the lawful institutions of the State, all while maintaining integrity of the legislative process.”

In the face of these concerning allegations, the three senators, Isabel Garcia, Diana Jones and Andrew Brandenburg, have voiced their commitment to upholding the democratic principles and safeguarding the integrity of the legislative process. As they shine a spotlight on what they perceive to be an attack on democracy by Lieutenant Governor Noah Wade, many are left to wonder what the future holds for politics within San Andreas. The Senate, it seems, is divided unevenly on the matter.

Comment: Wade's about to execute Order 66 on his opposition. Perhaps an independent committee should be set up to investigate Rossi's and Wade's misdeeds. We're heading straight towards a dictatorship if those two are left unchecked.

Name: Ironically enough Noah Wade is exactly what he attacked Marcus Cambridge for all the past year until Hank was elected: Not elected. He's never had to deal with the consequences of his ridiculously low public approval ratings (they are low. Doubt me? Go out and freaking ASK people like I do. Most of them never heard of him even).

Needless to point out- what sort of democratic understanding is to expect from a man that tries to bypass democratic processes himself first and foremost?

Answer to the rethorical question: The same as from Marcus Cambridge- non at all.

Maybe we should first vote a governor and not a city council
