Modify the scrapping rule after an evasion from LEO

Hey VSauce, Michael here..

With the recent addition of players being able to remove plates from their vehicle whilst keeping it registered to your name, there has been an increasing amount of uncertainty as to whether or not a vehicle will be scrapped with simply the license plate removed when caught.

I felt like this was the best place to post the suggestion, as it needs clarification on when or not a vehicle can be scrapped by Law Enforcement after the plates are removed, while the car is actually registered.

Thanks for reading, bye!

penal code says vehicle will only be crushed if unregistered. even if you take the plate off, the vehicle is still registered

Yet cars are still being scrapped despite being registered, so therefore requesting some clarity to the factions or put it somewhere so it can be seen.

The question was asked to LFM and they answered it’s still the case. You’d likely need to contact them in the LFM discord and make a ticket.

who would have thought, another case that LFM blindly answer questions without knowing the first thing about the charge itself. what a great way to mislead players that are following the IC PENAL CODE.

of which, it says the following under the evading charge:

Quote

Vehicles will also be crushed, if unregistered.

now, does the penal code define what it considers as "unregistered"? nope. however, it does define that "unregistered" does not mean the same thing as a vehicle without a license plate, as it says the following under title 420 "Vehicle Registration Violation":

Quote

Any person who drives, moves, or leaves standing upon a public road, any unregistered motor vehicle, or any motor vehicle that does not display an identification plate. Or who, within the time required by law, fails to pay their vehicular insurance bills.

so the penal code here defines that an unregistered motor vehicle =/= a motor vehicle that does not display an identification plate.

so WHY are LFM allowing enforcement of this if it does not match IC law? are they letting it happen so that people can sue if their vehicle is crushed when not in accordance with IC laws?

NOPE! because if someone did, all they'd do is drop that classic "ON HOLD" message, and then void the entire case and quickly push an amendment to the penal code through to fix their mistake.

so please can we fix this and get an amendment made before letting all this in and leaving players completely clueless when their cars are crushed?

@Biscuit any thoughts?

Realistically you could check if the vehicle is registered by matching the VIN number even if no plates are present since the evader had been caught. Yes, maybe scriptwise you cannot yet there are always admins online that can make up for the lack of script there.

yes, i was asked a question and i answered it to the best of my understanding of the law.

if you wish to challenge the law, you have IC means to do it, and three rounds of courts to take it towards. Admins won't question a crush request as long as an LEO confidently thinks they are in the legal right to do so. Which, again, can be appealed through IC means.

As such, clarification for this law and or the legal standing behind it can be taken to the Senate and/or SAGOV/JSA for further clarification, they may make their own determination, which will then be reviewed by Shanks as any law is reviewed.

I'll go ahead and lock this on that note.
