I'm not sure I'll do this much justice, but I believe that there is a massive flaw in the poker system. For the benefit of explanation, I'll colour code the example play. I would urge anyone with a better explanation of this to jump in. I know this is a massive issue throughout the poker community. Player One posts their blind of $1,000. Player Two raises the blind $3,000. Player Three re-raises to $5,000. The play returns to Player One who calls the re-raise of $5,000. Instead of ACTUALLY paying the $4,000 difference, player one has to pay the $5,000 PLUS what they have already raised. Player Two also calls the re-raise, but also has to pay $5,000 on top of their original $3,000 raise. The problem with this is the betting isn't equal and offers a clear advantage to whoever makes the final raise. Instead of what should be a $15,000 pot we actually end up with a total pot value of $19,000, with Player One paying $6,000, Player Two paying $8,000 and Player Three only paying $5,000. It doesn't sound like a huge deal, but when playing higher stakes where betting is in the hundreds of thousands, a $100,000 bet can be re-raised by say $5,000 causing an injustice of the original better paying $205,000 and the latter paying $105,000. I wouldn't like to think how much money and how many players have been affected by this. I don't know how to script and don't claim to, but something should be in place to deduct your previous raise from a call, if required.
