"After limitations were placed on their members movements, the AB and NLR were forced to forge alliances with smaller groups that could help them maintain their position in the drug trade. The Aryan Brotherhood, in particular, realized PENI's potential and inducted the group's members into its criminal operations both in and out of the prison, including drug trafficking (primarily the methamphetamine trade), property crimes, identity theft and murder. This was not without controversy; some NLR members were resentful that AB essentially gave the "keys" or control of the streets to PENI. In an unsuccessful attempt to be independent of AB, a few NLR members broke away and formed a separate entity called FTB (Fuck The Brand). This new group of NLR members would be embroiled in a war with AB that would see loyal members killing members of the rebellious FTB. The majority of NLR members, however, maintained their allegiance to the Aryan Brotherhood and at the conclusion of the conflict were inducted into the AB as full members.
With NLR membership decimated from the infighting, the remaining NLR members have become a clandestine and loosely organized network of individual criminals that may work alone, in small cells, or on an individual basis with other white gangs (most notably PENI), but overall cooperation between these groups has fluctuated in recent years and varies on the individual."
