SPANISH AVE HAT GANG

The Northwest Spanish Ave Hat Gang, also known as the Sunnyside Brims are a gang located in the greater Hawick area, more particularly West Vinewood. They are primarily but not exclusively African-American street gangs. Located in uptown LS in their neighborhood of West Vinewood. The heart of the SAHG is the Sunnyside Apartment Complex in West Vinewood. In 2021, The Spanish Ave Hat Gang made headlines after being linked to a murder of an male named "Gabriel Garcia", Garcia was shot 6 times while walking back to his apartment in Hawick. Garcia was gunned down by Rodney “Lil Lay” Stone. The murder was caught on a nearby CCTV camera with Rodney being caught on cameras on his escape all the way back to the Sunnyside Apartment Complex. Its believed that the murder was gang motivated with Garcia being a suspected member of a rival gang. The Sunnyside Brims aren’t as active as they used to be, due to a recent gang injunction taking down most of their members. The Sunnyside Brims, like other Brim sets in Southern Los Santos, have many rivals.  These include all Crip sets
 in Hawick and around the entire city and all Hoover Criminals. However due to the fluidity of Hawick politics, these relations aren't set in stone.

Present Day Hawick Drill Scene

Greater Hawick hasn’t been a gang hot-bed since the later 1990’s, with several small sets spread throughout its neighborhoods like the Graveyard Insane Avenue Crips, Spanish Ave Hat Gang, Whittset Neighborhood Crips, 35 Laguna Street Gangster Crips and the now largely defunct Vinewood Locotes 13 along with others. Hawick has always set itself apart from the rest of Los Santos, gang politics 

 

wise and especially music wise. The Hawick Drill scene recently began blowing up in 2022 with the GIAC rappers "DOA,GEN5 AND 2100WICC" coming out with the song “GY ANTHEM”. This launched the Hawick drill scene into the spotlight with it racking up many views since its release.  The grimy, East Coast influenced sound of Hawick’s drill scene is what sets it apart from the rest of Los Santos being an example of just how culturally different the Northside of the city is from the rest. Drill music and gang violence have always been tied together in Hawick, both constantly creating each other.

Hat Gang Today

The Sunnyside Brims are more reckless, and tend to bring themselves more attention than they should. The rivalries they have are still hot, shooting from both sides still occur often. The Sunnyside Brims are known for two things, drug trafficking and  being overtly hostile and active in dissing their rivals online, more recently GIAC due to their rising popularity through their drill music. SAHG members tend to move recklessly, this being the cause behind a number of investigations and indictments to the gang. The Law Enforcement are still on the Sunnyside Brims heavy, they still haven’t stopped their drug and gun trafficking. Their drug and gun ties go as far as cities like Atlanta and Portland. The Spanish Ave Hat gang members focus on recruiting younger members. Most members of the Hat Gang are known by the police through arrest and are between the ages of 13 and 20. The majority of members have deep family ties or friendships within existing gang members. The Brims haven’t calmed down throughout the last few months with more and more of their rivals blowing up off of drill music. Most of the older gang members have been taken down by the Gang and Narcotics division of Los Santos.

Leaving the Brims with a few older and mostly young members,  the Sunnyside Apartments have turned into a crime infested place, with several shootings, robbing's, attempted murders, murders and a known drug dealing spot shared through social media, and mouth-to-mouth.
