Remove proximity limit on /sharecontact and /sharenumber

Recommended Posts

Current Behavior

/sharecontact and /sharenumber allow a player to share their character's contact info/phone number with another character who's in close proximity to them.

If you try to /sharecontact or /sharenumber with a player whose character isn't in close proximity to yours, you get a message: "[ERROR] You are too far away from the specified player" or "[ERROR] You are too far away from that player".

Suggestion

Remove the proximity limit on /sharecontact and /sharenumber.

These commands could still be used when characters are literally exchanging their contact info in-person. But removing the proximity limit has the added benefit of allowing players to share contact info/phone numbers with players whose characters would realistically have their character's phone number.

For example, LSPD employees are RPly issued work phones. These work phones would realistically have a directory containing the phone number of other LSPD Employees. Currently, if an LSPD employee wants to call another LSPD employee whose contact info they don't already have, they either have to:

  • PM the player and ask for their number -> manually add it to their contacts -> call
  • Go to the MDC -> lookup the other character -> copy the phone number -> manually add it to their contacts -> call.

By removing the proximity limit, this process is reduced to: PMing the player and asking them to /sharenumber -> /acceptnumber.

The only reason I can think of as to why the proximity limit might be justified is so that people can't 'abuse' the command, but I can't imagine a scenario where sharing your number with someone could lead to any 'advantage'.
