As much as I enjoy roleplaying with friends, and have made a lot of friends through roleplay in the past, it has to be said that the most natural and satisfying encounters were the ones I had with complete randoms. I think it's simply because of unpredictability, of course with people you know there's often some metagaming on a subconscious level.
