Kanpolero
17 hours ago, Sacred said: BY JONATHAN HOLDEN JUNE 19 2020 Armenian gang receives recognition after credit card skimming scheme unravels A 30 count indictment was unsealed Monday morning against twenty Armenian-American men, alleging that they were involved in a multi-million dollar debit card skimming operation that targeted senior citizens. Twenty-three arrests were made across a dozen jurisdictions. It’s believed by the prosecution that these men are affiliated to the Armenian Power street gang that’s been terrorizing the areas of Morningwood & Vinewood since as early as the mid-1980s. The highly sophisticated operation utilized middlemen and runners to drain private citizen’s bank accounts of thousands of dollars. The scheme involved the installation of “skimmers”, clone credit card readers, in 24/7 stores in Vinewood, Davis, Morningwood, Alta, and Hawick; They then used these machines to steal customers’ access card numbers and PIN codes, according to the indictment. They’re believed to have replaced the scanners at over ninety stores spread across San Andreas. Devices similar to this were used by these tech-savvy gangsters. These numbers were then either sold to third parties for malicious purposes or given to runners, typically Armenian youth in the neighborhood under the gang, who’d be ordered to go up to ATMs under CCTV surveillance and make maximum cash withdrawals from victim’s accounts. Several of the listed co-conspirators are suspected of having already fled back to Armenia after being “tipped off by an inside source”, explained the DA’s Office. The pre-trial hearing is set for December 17th & it’s expected that large portions of the Armenian community will be in attendance to show their support. “These guys [Armenian Power] extort, rob, and kill their own people [Armenian immigrants] with impunity. They see themselves as above the law. And in many ways? They are; they’ve truly become a transnational criminal organization.”, Lead Detective Richard J. DelVecchio was quoted saying about the investigation. Link to comment
