Radio rework

Recommended Posts

Short description: Rework of the radio system to add a scripted radio item, required to access radio commands, and make radios loud (Others will be able to hear what is said on the radio) with earplugs also available for purchase that would silence said radio transmissions for only the player carrying the radio to hear.

Detailed description: In real life, most radio transceivers are quite bulky and have speakers broadcasting at a volume high enough for people around to hear what's being said. In-game, this isn't translated at all. Radios do not require an item to use (Therefore do not show up in /showitems, /frisk and other commands) and messages are only visible to the people tuned into the radio. People around the radio are unable to hear the messages unless they themselves are tuned into the channel as well.

The main change suggested apart from item requirements is to make radio loud by default. Like the cellphone speaker system, this allows people around the recipient to hear what's being said which furthers immersion. The only way to have "silent" radio would be to buy earpieces, which make it so that only the recipient hears the message and nobody around would.

This suggestion would add two items:

1. Radio

This item will be required to access any radio-specific commands, simple as that. This betters immersion in that you know you're carrying an object that ranges from the size of a smint box to the size of a satellite speaker, or decently small to pretty bulky. Showing up in /inv, this item could be RPed around by other individuals.

2. Earpieces

This item will make radio messages silent again, inaudible to anyone but the recipient.

These could be RPed as wired or wireless earpieces.

Commands to add:

Items to add: Radio, Earpieces

How would your suggestion improve the server? More immersion for people using radios, giving people the ability to choose between a loud/silent mode which might add some flavor to legal RP (And potentially illegal RP)

I think we should also be able to take radios from people and access whatever frequency they are tuned into when using their radio. I can think of several situations where that's helpful, not to mention that it's more realistic.
