Name: Isabella “Izzy” Rhodes

Age: 21

Date of Birth: 30/10/1996

Hometown: Westdyke, Alderney

Location: 2330 Jamestown Street, Rancho.

Vehicle: Vapid Guardian, painted a garish mustard shade. Noted by Rhodes to look like ‘a Tonka truck.’

Occupation: None, spends time floating between various jobs.

Appearance: Rhodes is twenty-one years old. Decent-looking if one is alright with a strong nose and jaw, with pale grey eyes, freckles and—most obviously—fairly vivid red hair. 5’9” and somewhat skinny, but relatively fit. She has some light burn scars on her torso and arms that are mostly covered by tattoos, and has heavier burn scars on her legs that have yet to be covered.

Rhodes often wears cheap, grungy clothes or ones that she found second-hand, although usually put together with enough thought to look somewhat fashionable. Often, however, her clothes are somewhat geared to wherever she’s trying to fit in. She possesses a strong Alderney accent, and usually speaks rather coarsely, although she’s not above affecting a more polite demeanor if she thinks it’ll help the situation.

Biography

Between two e-mails, roughly two months ago:

Norton,

Your fucking daughter stole a lot of money from me, and I want it back plus interest. If I don’t get both my money and your daughter delivered to my front step, I’m going to make life very difficult for you.

Carmine,

My daughter was disowned the moment she started embarrassing the family. That was long before she got involved with you. If you think I know or care where she is, then you are severely mistaken. However, I'm willing to pay you the sum that she stole if you keep this business away from me, and keep whatever your retaliation is private. I don't need that kind of publicity. I'm sure neither do you.

However you deal with her, you won't get a retaliation from me. I promise you. If anything, you'll be doing me a favor.

Family Life

Spoiler

Isabella Rhodes was born in Westdyke, Alderney. The Rhodes family was wealthy and important in the community. Her father, Norton Briggs, was a self-made man who ran a chain of car dealerships across the US. Her mother, Margot (nee Harrington), was a socialite, born into old money that was on the edge of bankruptcy. Isabella was the youngest of five siblings, with three older brothers (Finn, Ezra and Aubrey) and one older sister (Olive).

The Rhodes household was not a warm place. Both parents despised each other, having married for assets rather than love (Norton having desired money, Margot having required reputation) and their children were raised primarily through hired help. Nannies, tutors and so-on. The parents were strict on what their children were allowed to be, intent on raising the (outwardly) perfect family. They encouraged competition and their children reaching further heights, and so all the siblings were competitive.

While this life had many material advantages, including that in education—all the Rhodes children enjoyed a private school education and numerous tutors, with Izzy still retaining a basic if clumsy knowledge of Spanish and Chinese from said tutors (her father having claimed that it would help in the business world)--it was impossible to earn affection, or even proper acknowledgement. Anything Izzy did had usually priorly been upstaged by her four older siblings.

This life taught her the value of a good lie. Perfection was impossible, so lying had to be done.

As Izzy hit her teenaged years, she went from trying her best to play the perfect daughter to acting out. Not more than misdemeanours, largely restricted to petty theft, lies and a couple of incidents of joyriding. She turned it into a game to swipe as much as she could at any social gathering her parents dragged her into. This proved to be a significant embarrassment to her family when she was inevitably caught lugging about half the silverware. They did not discuss it, however, still further denying any public acknowledgement of the fact. Until she hit eighteen and they promptly kicked her out.

Not bothered by it at the time (and perhaps believing it to be a temporary situation) Rhodes used her saved pocket money to jump a plane to Las Venturas, having been obsessed with the idea of the exciting neon lights and fast-paced lifestyle. She didn’t have much of a plan—her future had always been planned for her.

Of course, she lost what little money she’d brought with her very quickly. She coasted as well as she could for a while by using her trained charm and her decent looks to try and score free meals whenever she could. And eventually she met Carmine Rivera, owner of the Pink Swan. An aging businessman with a lot of skeevy side businesses, obscene amounts of wealth and a thing for redheads.

The Pink Swan and the Heist

Spoiler

‘Sugar daddy’ was probably the best way to describe what Carmine started as. He paid her way in exchange for dates and activities that his wife probably wasn’t happy about. This continued for a year before he started to talk about how much she owed him. More than a few dates could cover.

He got her to work at his casino, ‘officially’ as something of a hostess or waitress, although unofficially it ended up sliding into what was essentially prostitution, making his more important visitors happy enough to entertain business. She tried to back out, but Carmine made a point of showing all the things that he’d given her since their arrangement begun. Hinted at what might happen if she decided to ‘spurn his hospitality.’ And of course more debt piled up, because he was still supplying her with room and board. Any mistake, or anything he could construe as a mistake, added debt.

Rhodes attempted to find help at getting out of her ‘debt’ to Carmine. The cops were unhelpful and hideously corrupt. Carmine had connections and ample money for bribery, and some of them were customers of the Pink Swan and enjoyed discounts in exchange for turning a blind eye. Furthermore, the one call she got through to her parents resulted in her being promptly hung up on. So she stayed quiet for a couple of years, playing like she was okay with the situation and looking for something that could get her out. If there was a way, she'd have to find it herself.

This was impeded by a substance abuse problem around the same time in order to deal with things—club drugs were often offered by the people she catered to, and it helped keep herself happy, but it also blitzed her memory at times. She likely missed quite a few opportunities simply because she was too drugged to notice them.

But eventually she wiggled her way not only into Carmine believing she’d settled into her new job, but she managed to get close to his wife, Oriana. Oriana, not particularly happy with Carmine always having flings with much younger women, ended up giving Rhodes a few codes to break open one of his safes, perhaps in an attempt to teach him a lesson or a genuine attempt to help Rhodes. Perhaps both.

Rhodes, in turn, ended up collaborating with a couple of other casino workers, ‘J’ and ‘B,’ who would do the actual robbing. Rhodes’ plan was to receive her cut, wait a couple more months, and then use the funds to flee somewhere where Carmine would never find her. If it had gone to plan, Carmine likely would have been upset but not to the extent that he’d bother chasing her more than a few towns away.

Unfortunately, B was caught and he sung like a bird. Rhodes was tipped off by J, grabbed whatever she could from Carmine’s penthouse—including a necklace that belonged to Oriana, simply because it was the most valuable thing within reach—and ran. She sold everything but the necklace to a pawn shop and used the proceeds to fly to Los Santos. J told her that he’d send her her cut once Carmine was no longer on the warpath. He has yet to.

Los Santos/The Present

Spoiler

Upon arriving in Los Santos, Rhodes took to the streets. Partially for lack of funds and partially because she felt that being homeless would give her an excuse to not have any traceable roots. For her first few weeks in Los Santos she didn't interact with anyone except the odd other hobo, primarily remaining under the bridge near Strawberry. Partially out of fear that someone would somehow recognise her, and partially due to withdrawal from any drugs playing havoc on her ability to function. She'd used drugs to regulate her mood for so long that going cold turkey was one hell of a psychological crash.

Eventually, Rhodes got out more. Started to interact with people, tried to work what jobs she could to get on her feet. She ended up renting a truck to facilitate some mining, and bought a house in Rancho cheap from a man named Fat Trey. She mostly keeps her past under lockdown, although often it slips a little through conversation. It's hard to ignore your entire past, after all.

Her odd jobs so far have mostly revolved around mining, courier work or one five-day stretch of maid work that earned her a bat to the face and several burns before her employer 'vanished.' Currently, she's back on the hunt for a more solid job.

Rhodes has made a lot of acquaintances since, but she trusts very few if any of them. She believes it's safer to not let anyone help her whenever possible, so that she won't rack up another debt. She's also currently remaining on the wagon since her forced drying out, helped by the fact that she doesn't know the sources of drugs in Los Santos and thus has no easy access to them. However, her emotional state is somewhat fragile, wavering between an oddly optimistic 'it is what it is, so might as well just roll with it' or 'I'm doomed so fuck it, I'm gonna drink myself into a coma.'

She currently feels trapped by her current situation, and is trying her best to find some way to break out of it, and make sure that Carmine can never come after her again.
