The ability to create/save groups in mapping.

Detailed Description:

The suggestion here is to allow people to create and save custom groups of mapping objects, which can be placed multiple times and/or saved to be used in other mapping projects.

 

For example, you are mapping a restaurant and must place a table, chairs, plates, and other clutter down multiple times. Placing each item individually can be time-consuming, whereas having the ability to make one table, four chairs, and table clutter all as a group, then copy and paste that group around the restaurant filling up the space half the time. Then later, you could edit each table to add further variety so they are not complete replicas. 

 

Relevant Commands/Items:

 

The target items would be the mapping objects we currently have access to in-game. I'm not sure if it is possible from a development standpoint; however, the interface options could be located in the manage property furniture section and perhaps use a similar function to the copy rotation and position functions, as well as the manage furniture function which allows you to select specific furniture items around you. 

 

How will it benefit the server?

 

The leading group this will benefit is mappers. It will streamline the mapping process a lot on larger projects significantly. I would also argue it will benefit the mapping team heavily since a lot of the work they do are huge projects that require a lot of attention to detail and, in their own right take up a huge amount of time. It may also make new players get into mapping, seeing as this would be more user-friendly and more viable to players who perhaps don't have a lot of free time.

This would be so so helpful. 

 

In wildstar they had a similar drag and drop kind of mapping for housing plots and someone brought in a mod that let you select and pair things into groups. You could rotate it/copy it/place it etc all in the group select, made it amazingly easy when doing multiple things of the same pieces to clone further it would be nice to see something like it 

 

could have it go “group a” “make new group or link to group a” button etc
