Published: 30th of January, 2019.

The night of the 28th of January proved to be a calamitous time for emergency responders of the LSPD & LSFD. What begun as a standard vehicle pursuit ended in a mass shooting that tested both department's abilities.

The pursuit led LSPD officers to the Crystal Heights complex on Forum Drive in Chamberlain Hills. The resulting arrest was interrupted by an unknown attacker who set a responding cruiser alight. Once the area was deemed secure the Fire Marshall's Office (FMO) was dispatched, with Fire Captain Jack Wolfsbane representing.

According to police accounts the arson investigation was underway at 23:14 when bullets hailed down from the roofs above, Wolfsbane sustained fatal injuries while an accompanying LSPD Sergeant was struck in the arm.

What followed was an unprecedented escalation to a "CODE 0" response. A CODE 0 requires all active officers to respond to the scene immediately regardless of their current status. Three shooters were contained in the Southern Chamberlain Hills area before the LSPD took them down.

According to a later LSFD press release there were 6 victims afflicted with gunshot wounds and 2 victims.

With the area now on lock down and the LSPD on high alert; Any civilians within the cordon were either escorted out or questioned. A plain clothes officer was mistaken for a suspect and fired upon by a uniformed officer. At the time the officer was sequestered by an IA representative.

Unfortunately the LSPD Detective died in the line of duty in what may be called a "blue on blue" shooting. An internal investigation headed by LSPD Internal Affairs will be determining the culpability of the uniformed officer. The LSPD have requested the detective's name to be withheld until their internal investigation has concluded. Captain Wolfsbane was later confirmed to have also died in the line of duty.

The LSPD continue to extensively investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, with our police source stating "we are determining suspects and the reason behind the attack".

Following this the basic units were dispersed past midnight and the cordon downsized. The tactical units were the very last to leave the scene minutes later. Tactical teams later cast a net over the area until approximately 6AM on the 29th.

Police presence in the Chamberlain Hills and Davis areas have since stepped up. R&R spoke to a local resident with a deep-set Mexican accent who claimed he was harassed and had racial slurs thrown at him when detained. These claims were swiftly denied. Questions arise over potential gang activity in the predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, but are yet unfounded.
