i was going down memory lane looking at old steam screenshots and came across All Points Bulletin, known now as APB: Reloaded and for those who don’t know it had some of the most revolutionary clothing, character, and char customization when it released like 10 years ago. the game was set in a San Francisco open world knock-off and players selected one of two sides, the enforcers or the criminals. both sides were pretty much engaging in open warfare cops and robbers style in this urban landscape that was a parody of our real world and tbh? it kinda felt familiar thats when i drew this horizontal line to gtaw and it kind of clicked. sometimes it feels like this server is a spiritual successor to that. you look through page after page on the forums of “stop crims from doing xyz” or “police shouldn’t be able to ____” and there’s this tug of war between realism and fun, what jives and what doesn’t, how the economy should be and sometimes I think to myself maybe we should just embrace it? maybe we should just embrace the parody undertone of gtaw and the ridiculous pricings on items and the fact that the police several times a night end up wearing external vests and helmets in a mobilization phase because 14 bodies dropped in an hour as what it is: a really screwed up twisted version of the american dream, in a city on the verge of collapse and filled with wanton criminality and chaos and quasi-totalitarian officers and deputies acting out of pocket as opposed to some slice of life simulation of our current society as we know it, having to constantly suspend our disbelief to allow for the weirdest twists of rationality that would allow such and such to occur while preaching realism at the same time. these r just my bored ramblings but does anyone else kinda get what i mean here
