  1. This thread will feature scenes from the daily lives of the ULSA Beavers basketball team.
  2. Beavers were unfazed by the pressure as 4th quarter comeback gives ULSA 23-20 victory over the Washington Huskies. High stakes conference game was worth the hype. With a first place in the conference on the line, division rivals put on a show for the fans in a fierce duel, where Beavers managed to steal victory from the Huskies. Beavers' defense had to face difficulties while dealing with the Huskies' balanced pass and run offense. Although Beavers gave up plenty of first downs, they showed up when it mattered the most, forcing 3 sacks and 2 crucial interceptions late in the second half. Pass rusher Cheyvon Gordon collected 10 tackles and a huge highlight play of the game as he sacked down the Huskies' quarterback. Freshman safety Christian Petrucelli was everywhere on the field, forced to play big minutes against the Huskies' primary receivers. Petrucelli was yet again heavily targeted, but managed to finish his game with 7 tackles and 3 passes defended. ULSA's quarterback Colton Cooper was consistent with his accuracy, keeping Washington's defense on their toes throughout the game. Javier Lerida had another strong performance, collecting 75 yards and 1 touchdown on 7 catches. Brayden Manning put up 68 yards on 7 catches, while Amari Hinton showed up with 62 yards and 6 catches. However, it was Beavers' depth receiver Ladorian Nichols who turned the game around in the 4th quarter, putting up 87 yards and a redzone touchdown to end the game and secure victory for the Beavers. STATS VS HUSKIES DE Cheyvon Gordon - 1 SACK, 10 TACKLES, 4 TFL S Christian Petrucelli - 7 TACKLES, 3 PASS DEF CB Jerome Stewart - 1 INT, 5 TACKLES QB Colton Cooper - 29/37 CP/ATT, 2 TD, 0 INT WR Ladorian Nichols - 7 REC, 87 YDS, 1 TD WR Amari Hinton - 6 REC, 62 YDS WR Javier Lerida - 7 REC, 75 YDS, 1 TD WR Brayden Manning - 7 REC, 68 YDS Beavers' captain Cheyvon Gordon looked calm and all smiles in the locker room after the game, stating that back to back wins against the conference rivals will make them contenders. "We left it all out there tonight. Back to back games at home against our biggest rivals and we got the job done" said ULSA's leading pass rusher. "It's midseason and we're looking good on the field. We want that championship title, best believe that. And I know you saw that highlight too, that's what we're on. It's like that now." Safety Christian Petrucelli was happy with his performance despite being pressured by the Huskies' offense. "I knew I was going to be targeted a lot on defense as a freshman. I don't mind pressure and I'm always ready to prove the opponents wrong" said the freshman, who's been playing big role in the Beavers' defense. "Keep targeting me and see how I do. It’s just more stats for me. We're on a playoff run and I’m here to stay. Our defense has been working hard and we're proving why we’re one of the best in the nation." ULSA will play their next game on the road against Oregon Ducks. CONFERENCE STANDINGS 1. ULSA Beavers (6-2) 2. Arizona State Sun Devils (6-2) 3. Washington Huskies (5-3) 4. Arizona Wildcats (3-5) 5. 3. Second half comeback secures the 31-14 victory for ULSA, Beavers claim the top spot in the conference. Sun Devils (5-2) got off to a quick 14-0 start before ULSA (5-2) closed the cap with a touchdown and field goal. Second half changed the game as Beavers' defense took over and forced 6 turnovers, holding ASU scoreless. 2 sacks by the NCAA's leading pass rusher Cheyvon Gordon and interception returned for a touchdown by freshman safety Christian Petrucelli were more than enough to set up ULSA's offense for a takeover, scoring 21 unanswered points and effectively ending ASU's 5-game winning streak. ULSA's quarterback Colton Cooper was under pressure, getting sacked 5 times by ASU's defense, but did well to limit his turnovers and keep the ball moving. Amari Hinton was the leading receiver, catching the ball 8 times for 72 yards and a redzone touchdown. Javier Lerida's 68 receiving yards marked a new career high for the freshman receiver, who caught the ball 6 times. Brayden Manning returned to the line-up, connecting with Cooper for 5 receptions and 48 yards. "We refused to lose. Our defense has been phenomenal throughout the season. Without offensive turnovers, we can play against any team in the country. It's a statement - we're here for the title run." Safety Christian Petrucelli was thrilled with his career first interception and pick six. "I worked hard for it and took the chance when I saw the QB scrambling. I saw the opportunity and I took it home for the touchdown. We still got more work to do this season, it’s time to hit the lab now."
