Image
June 5, 2023

3 Key Takeaways:
  • ULSA introduces its NIL program, guiding student-athletes in engaging with their name, image, and likeness.

  • The College-Athletics Sponsorship Committee oversees the program, evaluating proposals and supporting student-athletes.

  • Businesses and sponsors can collaborate with ULSA's student-athletes by submitting proposals through the Chancellor's Office and the College-Athlete Sponsorship Committee.

The Name, Image & Likeness program is adopting the National Collegiate Athletic Association Board of Directors' decision to allow Student-Atheletes to be compensated for their name, image, & likeness (NIL). As of July 1, 2021, Student-Athlete can be compensated for their Name, Image & Likeness and engage in NIL activities such as brand promotion, commercials, audience engagement, billboard advertisement, and any other form of promotion which uses the name, image, or likeness of the student-athlete to further the brand's public perception. Each Student-Athlete is free to promote what they want as long as it is within the corresponding NIL policy enforced by their University or state.

The University of San Andres, Los Santos, proudly announces its NIL program. ULSA student-athletes will now have an internal program and policy to guide and encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity. ULSA recognizes the importance of adapting to the changing landscape of the sports industry. ULSA is dedicated to providing its student-athletes with the necessary resources and support to navigate these new opportunities successfully.

The NIL Program greatly improves our athletes' ability to engage in their NIL activity, engage in entrepreneurship, build their personal brand, and secure endorsement while still enrolled and achieving their academic and athletic aspirations. In addition, ULSA sees a new committee established. The College-Athletics Sponsorship Committee, or CAS Committee for short.

The College-Athletics Sponsorship Committee will be responsible for running the NIL Program. This committee will oversee program operations, evaluate endorsement proposals, and provide guidance to student-athletes as they navigate their name, image, and likeness opportunities. The Committee consists of five members, each serving a distinct role. The committee's president holds the authority to approve or reject proposals. A ULSA Legal representative ensures proper documentation, including legally enforceable agreements, with a focus on protecting the student-athlete and ULSA's interests. An Office of Student Affairs representative for faculty perspective, A Office of Strategic Communications representative to ensure proper market research, and a Student Union Representative to advocate for student interests. Together, they ensure the program operates smoothly and fairly, empowering student-athletes to make the most of their name, image, and likeness opportunities.

Chancellor Charlotte Dunois shared the following message with the ULSA Community.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHANCELLOR || IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NIL PROGRAM

Dear Beavers,

I am excited to announce our commitment to empowering our student-athletes. Today, we are proud to introduce the implementation of the Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) Program at ULSA. This program provides our talented student-athletes with a unique opportunity to express their individuality, demonstrate their skills, and thrive in all aspects of their lives, both on and off the field.

On June 30, 2021, the Division 1 Board of Directors approved an interim name, image, and likeness (NIL) policy. This new policy allows all NCAA D1, D2, and D3 student-athletes to be compensated for their NIL as of July 1, 2021. It's important that we adapt and provide our student-athletes with the resources and support they need to navigate the rapidly changing sports industry. The NIL Program allows our exceptional athletes to leverage their personal brand, engaging in entrepreneurial opportunities and endorsements while pursuing their academic and athletic goals with proper guidance and support from our University.

To ensure a fair and transparent system, ULSA POLICY: 007 NAME, LIKENESS & IMAGE. This policy will serve as a comprehensive guideline outlining the rights and responsibilities of our student-athletes, as well as the university's commitment to safeguard their academic and personal growth.

By embracing the NIL Program and implementing ULSA POLICY: 007 NAME, LIKENESS & IMAGE, we strive to set the standard for ethical, innovative, and empowering practices in collegiate athletics. Let us invoke our beaver spirit and build a lasting impact to leave a legacy that will inspire future generations.

Sincerely,

Charlotte Dunois
Chancellor
