In July of this year, the County saw it's current Sheriff, Gary Hewitt resign from the Los Santos Sheriff Department after serving as it's overseer since early 2022. As of the 24th of July 2023, the Sheriffs department has elected a new head to command the 18,000 staff, including the 7,000 sworn law enforcement officers.

Serving as current Division Chief, Reznik has superseded the Undersheriff Jonathan Medina who was expected to take the role following Hewitt's departure. Perhaps the department opted for Resnik's years of experience within the department. The 35th Sheriff of Los Santos joined the department in 1989 giving him a total of 34-years of active duty. Similar to other senior ranking individuals Reznik has obtained a number of accolades throughout his time with his background largely focussing around the Detective Division. Most recently he has been known for his service to the famous Operation Safe Street detachment, before moving on to becoming the Divison Chief of the Detective Division Headquarters.

It's reassuring to see that already the Association for Los Santos Deputy Sheriffs Inc. (ALSDS) have already dispatched a letter welcoming the new sheriff into his new post. This support is hopefully a good sign of continued development and change amongst one of the largest law-enforcement agencies in the United States. At current Sheriff Reznik has not released an official statement on his inauguration but we expect to see this during the week.

We extend our congratulations towards the Sheriff, and hope that he continues the same forward progression as Gary Hewitt. The Sheriff's department have been nothing but fantastic with the LS Insider Group, and we hope to continue working alongside the men and women in green for the rest of 2023, and onwards. We extend this release as an opportunity for the new Sheriff for him to let us know his plan for the department and how that affects us, the public!
