TWO MEN SHOT TO DEATH IN BURTON BY: JOAQUIN CARABAJAL - LS TIMES. APRIL 11 2020 14:33 Violence in Hawick is on the rise, in less than a week two homicides have been committed in the blocks of The Royale. The first victim is identified as Louis Leyva, 18 years old, originally from the Dominican Republic. According to neighbors, on 03/11/2021 the young man was sharing with family members in blocks 63-66 when two masked individuals burst into the place to end the life of this young man. The second victim is identified as Alvaro Peña, 19 years old, Dominican. Witnesses state that on 03/13/2021 the young man was walking down Spanish Avenue when three African-American men fired automatic weapons at Alvaro. The young man was hit by the projectiles but managed to reach the door of The Royale asking for help, the gunmen followed him into the facility and killed him before the eyes of several civilians. According to the authorities, these events are related to drug sales; it appears that the young men are linked to criminal groups engaged in this activity in Hawick and Burton. On social networks they share the hashtag #FREETORITOS along with photos where both murdered youths show weapons.
