Her mother and father had been together a few years, but her father abandoned them during the pregnancy. Her early childhood was somewhat deprived, as her mother never quite had enough work in her field of psychology research, her department at one of the city's institutes perpetually underfunded. Unfortunately, when the pair of girls were 5 years old, their mother fell ill with pneumonia - and it was an especially aggressive case. She passed away, leaving the children orphans. Inducted into the adoption system, a clerical error split the siblings apart, and eventually Valentina ended up just north of Bohan in Liberty City - Yonkers, Liberty. Her foster family were kind, but as she grew up she felt increasingly alienated from them as she never felt like she quite fit in anywhere - that is until she found her true calling astride a motorcycle. Going to vocational school, the girl also took to bikes in her teens like a duck to water, and there was little the Eygabroats - her foster family - could do to prevent her from motorized hooliganism. Eventually, she became a known quantity to the local police, and was brought up on charges. They never got her for manslaughter, but they did get her on traffic violations and vandalism, and she was offered a choice: Enlist, or go to jail. Finding the idea of being shot at preferable to imprisonment and hard time, she enlisted in the military. She'd always been a tomboy, and had never been particularly pretty (her face could be described as "angular" if you were being nice) and was built fairly solidly, her street-tough fighting ability letting her manage to hold some sort of semblance of her own. Funneled through the training system into the 75th (Second Battalion, "A" company, as she will gladly tell you if it's relevant to the matter at hand), where her first taste of combat was in the first Gulf War. It was on the road deeper into Iraq that she acquired her trademark left-side burns, scarring a good thirty percent of her body. As the years wore on, she was recalled to the US, opting to stay on as the Cold War had ended and there were no more on the horizon. Much to her chagrin, she was proven wrong one day in 2001. While on leave visiting the Eygabroats (having mended her relationship after cleaning up her act) she saw the towers come down. Before long, she was in Afghanistan, and that gave way to several tours in Iraq as well, where she lost part of her left leg and acquired numerous other scars. She made friends, she lost friends, she loved and hated and all the gamut of human emotion during her time in the service. In 2010, she hit her 20-year mark, at the rank of W-2, Warrant Officer. It was an odd position that she had been voluntold for, loathing the prospect of a desk job and butting heads with officers she disliked, and instead they had shunted her into a position of technical authority but little real power. ETSing out, a few civilian jobs came and went, none fitting with her personality or firebrand nature. With that, she took a hint and retired entirely from working for other people, buying a cab and coming to Los Santos for a fresh start...
