We here at the Department of Cultural Affairs are beyond excited to celebrate Pride Month with the citizens of Los Santos! During the month of June, our cities vibrant LGBTQ+ community takes center stage in a time of activism, education and festivities. To me, Pride Month is something I eagerly anticipate every year. I grew up in Queens, San Fiero, which is known for its sizeable gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. As a heterosexual cis-gendered woman, I found myself surrounded by people with background, stories, and struggles wildly different from my own. However, this did not deter Queen’s LGBTQ+ community from welcoming me with unparalleled hospitality. Whether it was attending drag shows or marching for gay rights in the state’s capital, these people not only became my friends, but my family. Despite having endured such struggles in their lives in a society that was not always accepting of them, they taught me how to be loving, compassionate, and brave human being. To us here at the Department of Cultural Affairs, we believe that LGBTQ+ rights are human rights. Regardless of partisan affiliation, we strive to live in a city were all members of the LGBTQ+ community are treated with dignity and respect. As a society, we have come a long way in our overall acceptance of LGBTQ+ people, but there is still a long road ahead. Transgender women, particularly transgender women of color, are being assaulted and killed disproportionate rates around the country. Businesses in some parts of the country are using discriminatory practices to shut out customers just because of who they love. The fight for total equality is not over, but we invite you all to join us in not only celebrating the progress we have made, but to plan and look forward to a brighter future for the LGBTQ+ community. The City of Los Santos is pleased to announce that they are hosting The Night of a Thousand Stars charity gala on the Del Perro Yacht this Saturday. Hosted by Janice Cummings of the Department of Cultural Affairs, funds raised at this event will be put forth towards Pillbox Hill Medical Center’s cancer initiative. Cancer has done an insurmountable amount of damage to our society. Millions of souls have fought this disease, and millions more have been impacted by the pain and loss it brings. Funds raised for this initiative will go towards the scientific effort to eradicate this monster from the face of the earth. On this night, we fondly remember those we have lost to cancer, and strive towards a future where its presence is obsolete. We extend an invitation to everyone who wishes to attend this event and help raise money for this cause. Free transportation to the Del Perro Yacht will be provided from the Puerto Del Sol Marina in La Puerta. Attendees are also welcome to arrive to the yacht on their own personal boats, as long as they do not obstruct the yacht’s embarking point. Arrivals via helicopter are prohibited to the public.
