Immediate Family: Madeline was raised by her biological parents, Arran and Jennifer Dunlap. She has an older sister, Amelia Alice Dunlap, ahead by four years in age.

Parenting: While her mother was more disconnected and less close, her father was like a best friend to her and would be there for her as much as he could.
Upbringing: Madeline was brought up to be a respectable, polite young lady with conservative Christian values and right-leaning political beliefs. While her father was mostly responsible for this, he would also instill in her his rock-oriented taste in music and interest in science, shaping her to be the geeky goth-rocker she is today.
Infancy: Her mother went into labor during the moving process from Edinburgh to Dunfermline across the Firth of Forth. At birth, both Madeline and her mother nearly died during the arduous process which lead to a Caesarean section. Her family wouldn't successfully move to Dunfermline for another three months.
Childhood: The competition for attention made Amelia dislike having Madeline as a little sister. Many incidents of hitting and stealing toys soured their relationship and made it difficult for Madeline to get along with others. Meanwhile, their mother would sleep most of the day while their father worked tirelessly, leaving many altercations unnoticed and unpunished. Once Madeline started school, she found herself alienated from the other children and struggled to correctly socialize with them. She would begin acting out, eventually getting kicked out of playgroup and nursery until she was allowed to go to primary school. While she'd enjoy learning, the girl would begin to get teased and bullied by her classmates, worsening once she reached Primary Six. Madeline's tall stature, long feet, and social awkwardness would be the centers of most of her mistreatment. She would find solace at home with her dad whom she would read books and learn to play the guitar with.
Adolescence: One Sunday morning, Amelia's mother and sister would go to church together, leaving Madeline and her father home. She had been grounded the Friday before after spitting in Amelia's face and would remain so for five more days. Her father had to stay home as well since he hadn't felt well. While she'd lie down, bored in her room, Madeline would hear a loud thud come from her parents' bedroom. Despite her fear of leaving her room, Madeline went to investigate the source of the din. She knocked on the door... no answer. When Madeline hesitantly opened the door, she stood in disbelief. Her father lay face-down on the floor, unresponsive. In tears, Madeline rushed to his side and rolled him over. She would always remember how death looked when she saw his lifeless eyes, left empty of all consciousness and perception at the hands of a heart attack. She wouldn't speak at the funeral. Even with his body cremated, all Madeline could see were her father's eyes and the alternate history of what could have been avoided had she seen it coming. She was thirteen years old.

 

The death of her father pushed Madeline into a troubled mindset, making her act out in school more and even attack another student. A year later, her mother decided enough was enough and moved her and her sister to live in the United States; a city, named Los Santos. The climate, the people, the laws... everything was very different to their Scottish family. The new school Madeline was enrolled to had more vicious classmates than her old school in Dunfermline. Students would tease, berate, harass, and assault the new girl for her alien accent and unusually pale complexion, on top of her other quirks she was also bullied for in the past. It seemed Hell followed her, and this time, with a grudge.
Adulthood: Six months after turning eighteen, Madeline was kicked out of her mother's apartment and left to fend for herself. Her mother moved to Arizona on her own as she was unable to handle Madeline and her slew of issues. Amelia went off in favor of living a nomadic lifestyle with a group of like-minded hippies. Meanwhile, Madeline spent the next three years homeless, hopping from one friend's couch to another's. She'd eventually pick up a job as a courier for Jetsam, driving goods from the Terminal by truck.

 

Things would begin to look up after a nasty fall during an Airsoft match inadvertently formed the foundations of a building social life when Laura Romano, Samantha Reid, Bradley Cromwell, and Claire Wells visited her in the hospital. A crack forms in her shell as she starts opening up more. Unfortunately, this made her vulnerable when she decided to trust an ex-con from Liberty City, whom would go on to kidnap her and leave her unconscious in the Paleto forest. The event left her traumatized once again, pushing her to throw herself off a three-story building following a bad flashback. She miraculously survived the fall, leaving her with broken bones and a permanent seizure disorder, making it the closest she's ever come to committing suicide. Her depression and anger festers, manifesting into outbursts of rage and mental breakdowns, finding relief in old habits like self-harm.

Coming of Age: Following the death of her father, she quickly came to understand the unfairness of life. The experience left her a step ahead of her peers maturity-wise.
Evolution: Madeline grew more and more melancholic as her adolescence progressed. She'd become nihilistic, cynical, and misanthropic. She's grown less and less shy as months went by, experiencing new and eye-opening events that would break her out of her shell. She now boasts a more outspoken personality.
