DA Meyer Launches Voter Fraud Investigation,

Impartiality Questioned

The announcement of a criminal investigation by the Los Santos District Attorney against disgraced former Senator Luca Giraldi has been met with both skepticism and admiration from representatives and constituents alike.

 

"Mr. Giraldi has allegedly used his position as senator to intimidate witnesses and further try and cement his position as senator," Meyer stated in a DAO press release Saturday morning. "My office has opened an investigation into Mr. Giraldi for Voter Fraud as well as Witness Intimidation."

 

For weeks, Mr. Giraldi has faced criticism in the Senate, with the Los Santos Insider reporting his recent rash of scandals in his public and private life. These scandals culminated in his resignation, after the Senate Rules and Ethics Committee forwarded a resolution for his impeachment on a bipartisan basis. However, questions have been raised about the political motivations and impartiality of District Attorney Meyer.

 

It was just weeks prior that the DA had made an appeal to increase the budget for their office at a Senate Appropriations hearing. The DA's request was met with scrutiny by Mr. Giraldi, who more less accused Meyer of government waste and inaccurate accounting in their request. It has been speculated that Mr. Giraldi's attempts to slash the DA's for budget may be related to the ongoing investigation being started by Meyer. After all, the District Attorney specifically mentioned their political disagreements in the press release.

 

"It's of no wonder that Senator Giraldi has not been portrayed in the best light as of recent, and that's not due to his attempts to cut my office's budget," DA Meyer stated.

 

Since then, another former state senator, Edward Ulf, had upped the ante, taking to social media to accuse Meyer of abusing their power by selectively targeting political opponents.

 

"Why would you take this long and after he resigned to go after him, you worthless bandwagoner?" Ulf questioned on Facebrowser. "Remove Meyer from the office. We need someone actually competent."

 

Ulf noted that since Mr. Giraldi was appointed to his position in the State Senate, rather than elected, it is unclear which election DA Meyer is claiming Giraldi had interfered with, as per the Penal Code definition of voter fraud.

 

"Any person who attempts to add, subtract or delete votes or attempts to falsify the results of an election or otherwise attempts to dissuade or influence the election voting through coercion, persuasion, promises, bribes, threats, violence, fraud, or trickery," the Penal Code reads.

 

Without knowing which election is in question, it is difficult to determine the legitimacy of the claims DA Meyer is making against Mr. Giraldi. 

 

Mr. Giraldi's voter fraud allegations have garnered attention in Los Santos since the DA's announcement was released. As the investigation continues, the public has their eyes cast, eagerly awaiting its outcome and the ramifications of its result.

She must be new to this city. The last election didn't see individual senators elected. Luca did not appear on the ballot. Instead a proportional system was used to allocate seats to the respective parties and placed responsibility on them. This system was deeply flawed and changed by the state government to fix issues like this.
