[JSA] DO NOT change the felony expungement system.

Recommended Posts

Detailed Description

Changing the felony expungement system is not the right decision for the court game mechanic.

Why is that? Well, it makes the players unable to un-do an action that may have put them in jail, but that wasn't too complicated to do.

For example, a player insulting or threatening or 'assaulting' a "peace officer", by the lenient descriptions that most police officers ingame use will be a thing that a player should be able to expunge from their record, ESPECIALLY if they have done it only once and for their first time.

This however does not change the fact that it's an abuse-able mechanic. That's why it should be reviewed on a case by case basis, and ofcourse, repeat offenders or characters who have done egregious crimes will not be granted such a thing.

Is it realistic? No. Is /vg and /vp realistic? No. Is it useful and convenient? YES. Is /vp and /vg useful and convenient? YES. Then why not make it easier for the players?

Relevant Commands/Items

N/A.

How will it benefit the server?

The ability for players to make more choice in the path of their character's development. The absence of an unchangeable, "set in stone" path the player has to take once they do a crime.

In essence, we didn't. We just made it so you need to go through the DA's Office which gives us many more opportunities to create roleplay (think probation or community service to get your charges removed). You don't need a lawyer anymore either.

You can just file a thread on here with the format and follow the guidelines listed and it'll be reviewed. In the old system, all we could do is say no and your charges wouldn't be expunged, so nothing changes here.

This makes sense, but I kind of didnt see that written on the statement, I thought it was only for currently incarcerated / current felons, not someone who had a felony in their past.

Yeah the change came a surprise to myself as well as I didn't think it was going to be that soon, so documents aren't updated appropriately, but will be soon enough. We made an announcement to all lawyers about it and told as much people as we could but yeah, DAO has a lot planned and are going to be giving more people the ability to expunge charges from their records and in return the person have to do some rp in game. Think of it like how parolees are given freedom but have conditions to follow. Obv this won't be as intense though.

issue it won't be like expungements as you need the following to apply for your case to be considered :

  • The conviction must have been in Los Santos County;
  • The petitioner must be a living person;
  • There must be a claim of actual innocence;
  • Credible evidence of innocence must exist;
  • The claim must not be frivolous.

    This is not an expungement but more or less a review board that reviews the integrity of the conviction  and removes them accordingly instead the removals of the charges based on good behavior or other factors for expungement. Issues are the last two conditions, credible evidence of innocent and actual innocence.
    Expungement was not meant for that and it was more or less whether the offender has changed his lifestyle for the better. It should be noted even though you admitted in the JSA discord that this will be more limited than what expungements would bring about as a whole. Checks and balances was already in place as it is ruled by a judge.

    Also it should be noted that expungement system, the old system you have to show proof of employment, proof of community service and other factors to be considered there was no need to change the rules or program as it was already working.

    You are not bringing rp to the court but more responsibility to the DA when it is barely functioning no offense. The execution is very fast and there was no placeholder for the system, hence it is affecting everyone's rp in general.

The previous expungement system was illegal and essentially full pardons to crimes, something which simply just does not happen.

Price has explained the process hereon.
