[LSFD] Civilian Employment Opportunities?

Recommended Posts

Hi! So for a little introduction, I play Christopher Foreman and Ryan Lionheart and I run the Los Santos Fire Department alongside with @Björk.

Recently it has come to our attention that we have a fair few ranks free within the LSFD faction and we thought we could provide more RP for the server and opportunities for unique roleplay within the faction, however in a non-firefighting capacity. You could call it a "Civilian Employee" role or something along the lines. For example we were thinking of having an LSFD Chaplain / Psychologist which would be essentially a mental healthcare specialist for both PD and FD, or just generally a psychologist. Another example we thought of could be an LSFD specialist mechanic.

We wish to know what you, the community, would like to see available in order to provide for more RP between the faction and of course, you guys and girls.

So, what kind of civilian employee roles would you like to see? And how would it benefit the server and the FD?

Me being a Psychologist IRL, I've already offered to start slowly but steadily to work on a mental health service to offer for starters to both FD and PD, as mental health issues are a very present theme in the RP for many of our characters there, but here are other options:

  • Accountant - Particularly relevant with the new tax changes, if people are quite into spreadsheet RP.
  • Mechanic - We crash our ambulances more than we'd like to admit. Whoopsie!
  • Lawyer - Someone to keep on retainer, not necessarily within the Department in a permanent position.
  • Maintenance work/Janitor - I love people doing simple, colorful RP like this, gives a lot of life to have someone like that around.
  • Locksmith - Because we don't always have to kick doors down I guess.
  • Fire Alarm technical support/installation - For when the Fire Alarm system eventually comes.

These are some I can think of off the top of my head!

We discussed this today, and it'd be really nice to have some civilian roles in the faction, such as a FD mechanic for those times Mirror Park rats ram our ambulances like a bull that sees red, or someone who can be my assistant for those times I need coffee, smh.

I would be particularly interested in a psychologist role within the FD so that we could integrate it with the PD given there's a distinct lack of counselling available.

I've sent you a PM with more info.

100% agree with all of these above along with the then mentioned role of a dispatcher.

Something else to consider may actually be someone who role-plays being the council or advisor in the FD, someone whom those employed may go to and speak to however it'd be done so confidentially. Such person would have to have knowledge of how to deal with those situations and may in turn require to also know about certain regulations within the FD but I believe that having more characters and people in roles which encourages players to really develop the emotions of their character can be extremely beneficial, especially since FD deal with people on the daily not making it through the treatment, such situations could and may cause trauma to those who were involved, this could extend from the psychologist role.

Yeah that's something that we 100% plan to incorporate as an LSFD Chaplain or Psychologist, available to the LSPD too.

I'm preparing a proposal to make a Mental Health resource that is aimed at First Responders and is attractive to them to use, since in First Responder culture it's not easy for them to use these resources for a variety of reasons. One of the big ones I'm working now is how to manage the records of PD and FD members that seek help with the service so they can be assured that their employment isn't at risk on account of what they say or discuss.

It's interesting so far! But yeah, onto the topic, give us more jobs you'd like to see!
