Portrayal Issues

Character portrayal, in the context you refer to it, is very subjective. @TheSenate explained it pretty much as it is. Legal faction leaders could always remove someone for portrayal issues. However, what constitutes portrayal issue varies between every faction, much like how entry requirement is different for every faction. LEO factions might be hesitant to allow 35+ y/o rookies into the force, but in state gov you generally won't find anyone who's less than that. This is just one simple example but you can see how it all changes with every faction out there. Allowing the faction leadership (with the general guidance of LFM handlers) to handle portrayal issues within their respective faction is probably one of the best choices. Not to bash, but normally neither LFM or RPQM has any credible knowledge or experience regarding the roleplay of a certain faction, and to let them judge what objective portrayal issue is seems a bit silly. The limited interaction I've had with RPQM during one of the election periods (where they were supposed to give us regular insight regarding candidates), I didn't really receive much info. In fact, communication between our RPQM delegate and myself were pretty sparse and I only received bits of information from our already overworked LFM handler of the time to make up for the frail performance provided, at that time. Whether things have changed since, I wouldn't know, but we'll see shortly as the next election period is about to arrive soon.

Reputation is pretty important on this server, unfortunately. But no one can be expected to make a perfect character as your very first (unless you're @Zani). After all, that is the best way to learn: make some hot garbage character, find out it's hot garbage, make a less garbage character next time. With state gov as an example, when we receive an application from someone who has a record of character portrayal or other issues, we usually have a discussion within leadership to set out some conditions to offer. We don't really decline right away, as we can't really afford to do that with such a niche roleplay, and instead we'll find some terms and common ground with the applicant in question. This might make the faction appear unpopular, but I'd rather facilitate an enjoyable experience for as many people as possible at the cost of my reputation.

All of this I just said applies to factions. If you're not in a legal faction, however, instead of being removed for character portrayal issues you'll just be branded as a mallrat. That's just how the cookie crumbles in modern roleplay communities

I can only comment that as a FL, we do try to keep as much IC as we can, but like H04X says, portrayal issues for one faction won't be the same portrayal issues for another.

For example,

- It's extremely unlikely we'd bat an eyelid at a student going to a casino and gambling, engaging in recreation drug use, or sneaking into a club underage and drinking whilst wearing our faction clothing. Of course, should news get back to faculty, then the student could quite possibly face IC sanctions.

- We'd be far more likely to have OOC portrayal issues if we heard of students gambling huge sums of money and that is because excluding some very rare exceptions, students are not rich and would not have that kind of cash to join a high rolling table at a Casino where hundreds of thousands of dollars are at stake.
