Strawberry, Los Santos is a small neighborhood located in the South end of the city. It borders Davis and Chamberlain Hills and stretches from Alta Street to Popular Street. Strawberry originated in the 1800s and was a middle-class neighborhood for immigrant families migrating to Los Santos. In 1964, many of the houses were bought out and torn down by the government, with its close proximity to the downtown district, the area was planned to become a shopping district with a mall sitting in the place of the homes that once were. The project eventually failed, with significant pushback from former residents and the community of Los Santos. In 1973 construction began on the Louis Housing and Development, which is situated right behind the 24/7 store on Strawberry.

The once middle-class growing neighborhood is now home to several poverty-stricken families who inhabit the Section 8 housing. In 2020 the racial makeup of Strawberry was 54.4% African American, 28.1% Hispanic, and 5.6% Non-Hispanic White. The median household income was $42.2k, making Strawberry just above the poverty line. Strawberry has a crime grade of D+, making it among the least safe neighborhoods in America. The most common type of crime committed in Strawberry is categorized as violent crimes. Crime is up a total of 75% on the year for Strawberry, and violent crime is up 260%. Civilians of Strawberry claim that the crime in Strawberry is a result of gang violence that plagues the streets.

Rollin 100s

The Rollin 100 Crips refer to a group or alliance of several gangs from 102nd to 120th avenue. Most gangs that fall under this umbrella also align themselves with 2x card, or Neighborhood Crips. Many within the card pledge violence upon Hoovers, by claiming HK (Hoover Killer). The 100s made headlines with social media trend #100days100nights when they sought revenge vs the Hoover Criminals.

The most notorious gang within the alliance is the Rollin 100s Underground Crip, which is one of the most active sets under the umbrella. The origins of the gang date back to the 1980s when the gang was formed in Los Santos County Jail where several godfathers were all situated at the time. The gangs under the Rich Rollin 100s umbrella are allies to one another, although rare, internal feuds aren't unknown. The main enemies of the Rollin 100s include the Hoover Criminals and all Gangster Crips.

The Greedies

The Greedy Neighborhood Crips, also known as the Greedy Boulevard Crips is identified as a small, very active African American gang located within the strawberry district. They’re usually by Davis Avenue and Capital Boulevard. Along with Crusade Blocc Crips, Greedy were also one of the original Crip sets to break off from the Westside Crips in the 1970s. The Greedy Neighborhood Crips affiliate itself under the Rich Rolling 100s umbrella just like the Crusade Blocc Crips and other reputable Crip sets.

The newer generation coming up within the Greedy Boulevard Crips area calls themselves, “Get Busy Crips”. This originated in early 2019 for when a GBC affiliate, who went by the name Nfant Badass was gunned down in the Chamberlain hills neighborhood after a dispute with a rival gang member. He was only at the age of 17 and his despise caused an emotional outbreak within the community. The younger generation of GBC will band together, going under the name Get Busy Crips and pledge retaliation and violence against most of their rival out of spike for Nfant Badass. The younger members usually age to round 13-16 years old, and are led with no guidance whatsoever. Both gangs reside in the Cimaron Park area and have been cliqued up ever since since both of the gangs claimed 2x/NHC/BC.

The Crusade Blocc Crip is a small, nearly defunct African-American gang located on Strawberry. The main strong spot and hangout for the gang are the Louis Housing & Development houses on Strawberry Avenue. The gang's turf stretches from Capital Boulevard to Crusade Road. The gang is known for being one of the first to break off from the Westside Crips in the 1970s along with the Greedy Neighborhood Crips.

The Crusade Blocc Crips align themselves under the Rich Rollin 100s umbrella and call themselves allies to the other gangs under this umbrella. They made social media headlines in 2017 when a notorious member and rapper of the gang Troy "Baby Capone" Wells was shot and killed on El Rancho Boulevard. There was a rumor that Capone was killed by Greedy Neighborhood Crips, an allied gang until it was finally revealed that he was killed by Eight Tray Gangster Crips.

Today, the Crusade Blocc Crips aren't nearly as active as the gang once was, with members being locked away and several stepping away from the gang. With the rise of the Greedy Neighborhood Crips in the area, many of the newer generations are turning towards the larger and more notorious gang rather than the smaller Crusade Blocc. Members of the Crusade Blocc Crips are more known for getting to the money as opposed to other sets around them who move more militant and are more flashy. The gang maintains good relations with the Greedy Neighborhood Crips and other various subsets of the Rollin 100s umbrella.

Strawberry, Los Santos - Community leaders come together to speak out against the rising violence within the community.

Thursday morning, group leaders came together at the Strawberry Church to talk and put an end to the ongoing gang violence plaguing the city.

"I don't even feel safe walking the streets... There are no morals, and there's no code, these young men don't care who they're robbing, attacking, or killing. They do it just to do it." said Kiesha Lynn.

Lynn has just recently lost her son, Jeremiah Lynn, 19 in a shooting the week prior. Lynn feels that with the right guidance that the kids can change their attitudes and be reformed.

"Everything, everyone... Has failed these kids for years, leaving them no options except to turn to the streets. The school system, the justice system, and their own families. There are no real role models for these children, only rap music that promotes the killing and gang culture." said Michael Wilson, a former gang member, and convict turned activist.

A Deputy from the Los Santos Sheriff's Department closed the speech with some words of advice for gang members.

"All I'm asking is to give your life a second chance... It breaks our hearts every time we have to make that call and tell a mother that her child has been killed. Just please, put the gun downs, we don't want to see more kids growing up without fathers and mothers growing up without their children."

The group will come together next month on March 3rd for their next meeting.
