So let's lock the characters up for a realistic time, that way;

- the prison will populate,

- prison roleplay will pick up,

- aging up will be appropriate,

- OOC sentiment of not allowing people to age up is dealt with,

- crime will actually be fought instead of it having to be repeated over and over.

Oh wait, it's just a game...consequences shouldn't have to be roleplayed, right?

Sorry, not sorry.

I've been saying this for over a year, but this Heavy R.P. server isn't ready for that.

As a criminal roleplayer - I fully agree. Instead of incorporating senseless OOC rules and restrictions that just band-aid the bigger issue, increase IC sentences for crime in general. Simple as that.

This is an idealistic approach, sure those are all great things but anybody who actively RPs in prison can tell you a good chunk of people just /changechar the minute they hit the pod. Absolutely nothing stops the players who just wanna rape, rob and kill from doing that.

- Prevent jailed chars from being deleted (unless they're specific jail characters)

- Don't tick down offline time or set a release date OOC (but do that pretty far in the future, keep the character off the street for a realistic amount of time, determine a minimum percentage of the hours to be spent ingame or the OOC release date isn't triggered)

- Treat being imprisoned as a PK (at least from the situation that lead to it) if it isn't yet.*

*It's kind of strange for X to see someone go to prison for years, for X to then be killed by Y over that situation mere weeks later because the criminal's time was fast forwarded.

This isn't necessary if the times are set to a realistic scale, or a more realistic scale. 1:1 may be a bit much (though I'd aim for it tbh), but if someone goes away for 10 years, they should be gone from society for at least 10 months OOC in my opinion. And even then I'd feel it would be fail RP to go after a potential "snitch" (you know, that civilian that had no other choice but to follow their normal civic duty (and no, this obviously doesn't justify calling cops within earshot of the criminal))

None of this addresses people using /changechar and doing crime on an alt. The crime rate would stay basically the same.

The real issue is staff inaction on problematic players and when they do act, simply handing out slaps on the wrist. Key community member shouldn't be allowed to continuously get official factions and supplier when their factions are always a hotbed for shitty criminal RP.

They'd have to keep buying new character slots and it would become pretty obvious for staff to see the pattern. Enforcing rules (rule 6 in this case) will always be necessary whatever you think of.

Kind of hard to do that when they complain about jail being dead and instead of it being an IC punishment they can't ''RP'' their characters as a result. I do agree with your point fully though.

I mean if we put harsher sentences in place and have players spend let's say 50-75% of their sentence roleplaying in game, we would fix the issue with jail being dead. It would also make people think twice about block wiping factions just for the fun of it. We would suddenly see less gun violence and smarter criminals. If you want to fully develop your character on the outside then don't do dumb shit, simple as that. It's not rocket science. You can't go out with your 15 year old character and mass murder 6 people in broad daylight and then complain about spending 20 OOC days in jail on a HEAVY roleplay server. We all have to reap what we sow and jail is actually great for character development. Not sure why the management caters to deathmatchers and other rulebreakers on the OOC and IC level. People get a mere slap on the wrist OOC and IC for the most unrealistic shit because we are apparently scared of rulebreakers leaving the server and player base decreasing. The server standards are honestly becoming a joke, we might as well take the "heavy roleplay" out of the server's description.

If you put harsher sentences players will immediately NC as soon as they're jailed (most already do), and jail will still be dead. That and you'll have people starting to complain about having to spend such a long time in jail for something they did IC, being forced to rp somewhere they don't want to etc and then they'll complain and complain and complain to get it reversed for them to not rp in jail anyway. Fix the community mentality towards jail, encourage roleplay there. Make it more appealing than taking a 30 minute ajail, nc or ck after a shootout with cops.
