Duško was born in a small village of Prnjavor on a night between 7th and 8th October 1997. His family was poor and his parents, Vladimir and Ana Stefanovic were barely being able to pay the rent. The family was living mostly of the social support, while the father had a small income from keeping cattle. After Duško turned 2 the family decided to move to the capital city of Serbia, Belgrade. It was a big opportunity for a better life, but his mother wasn't soo happy about moving, and tried her best to keep her husband from doing so, but failed. Their cousins, Vladimir's brother Nikola, managed to help Duško's family by giving them some money to start with and a stable place to stay. It was a small apartment of 40 square meters and two bedrooms. Nikola inherited it from their father after he died, but was happy to let Vladimir's family stay as long as they need it.

It was already the infamous year '99 and the whole country was doing terrible with the war, crisis and hyperinflation. Yet alone for the Duško's family which was barely able to make ends meet. At that time Vladimir didn't have a legal job, he used to drive the family scrap car across the borders with Bulgaria or Macedonia and smuggle goods like food, cigarettes and sometimes drugs into the country. He had to do so in order to fight the crises and provide food for his family. The money was fairly good and sometimes he'd keep some of it for himself. The family was starting to doing better, but still fighting the terrible poverty. Duško turned 7 years old, and started going to school. He never liked sitting in one spot for too long, so his grades were mostly terrible. The only thing he liked about school was being able to play cops the robbers with his friends. He’d always choose to be a robber, even when there wasn’t enough space in the team. Maybe it was a subconscious thing, who knows. At age of 8 Duško went to a wedding of his sister, Nikola’s daughter. He didn’t go there by his will. At the wedding he would meet a kid close to his age, Predrag Stefanovic. They we’re related, but nobody of adults was able to tell him how so. There was no way for Duško to realize it at that point, but Predrag will become an important character in his future.

When Duško celebrated his 10th birthday was when things went to go downhill. His father was shot down on the streets by some gang members while he was distributing drugs on their turf. He didn’t make it in the Emergency Room. The family was broken. Duško felt real sorrow for the first time in his life. It was even worse when they realized where was all the money going from. Ana was always suspicious on her husband saying that he’s a bank accountant. She always hoped it’s true, but she’s been lied to the whole time. She’d then go out of her way in order to destroy every memory of him, as she thought he betrayed her right at the point she was feeling like they figured life out. But the truth was that Vladimir always did it for the sake of his family, and that was the only option he had. Duško would never listen to his mother when she’d tell him that his father was a bad man, Duško will always keep good memory if his dad and picture him as a hero.

Years passed by and it was really hard for Duško to be raised without a proper father figure. He would grow up to be a delinquent. Many tried to help him, including his family, friends and teachers. However Duško would never listen. He was never the one to respect authority. From very young teenager age he’d get in trouble with police over small things. In High School Duško distributed marijuana to his peers. For a fair price. That was his first „business“ and he did learn some things from it. Some things about trust, allies and enemies. When he finally finished High School, he was never interested in going to University. His mother would’ve loved if he did, she really thought he’d be the breaking point, the person to change the things around for the family. But that wasn’t the case. Duško wasn’t mature enough to learn. He needed adernialine in his daily life. He could never settle in one place and have a 9-5 job.

Years passed fairly quickly, Duško became 21 years old and it was time for him to take care of himself. He gathered some money, mostly from illegal things and a little bit from gambling and low wage jobs, and moved out of his place. He was living in a total shithole, all the things in his apartment would be broken or damaged. It was a really bad place to stay. Duško really started to question if he’s gonna make it or not. He hit the rock bottom.

That was when he received an intriguing phone call. It was from an unknown number starting with +1, which indicates that it’s from the States. Duško picked it up, cussing about the price he’d have to pay for the call.

-          (cellphone) Predrag: Hey man. Dule is that you? It’s Predrag. It’s been a long time.

-          (cellphone) Duško: Hello. Yeah it’s me. Where are you? How’ve you been holding up?

-          (cellphone) Predrag: I’m doing well. I live in Los Santos now. How about you?

-          (cellphone) Duško: Listen cus’. Imma be honest with you. I’m doing pretty poor. I don’t know how will get out of this bullshit.

-          (cellphone) Predrag: Honestly that’s what I was hoping to hear. Listen, here in America, life is good. We’re building something here. Building something big. And we can use a pair of spare hands. I know you’re a fighter man, that’s why I’m calling. Listen, I can’t say much over the phone, but you’d want to come over here. Take the first flight. Goodbye.

It’s safe to say that Duško was more than intersted in what Predrag was saying. He tried his best to gather some money. He looked around everywhere. Did some dirty jobs for money. Asked some acquaintances for money. At the end Duško managed to gather 2,500$ which would be enough for a flight to America and a flight back if needed. A week later Duško landed at LSIA. He tried to get ahold of Predrag, ut he wouldn’t pick up the phone. He tried again and again for days, basically sleeping on a bench. Duško was on his own for a few weeks. He rented out a room in a Hostel that was nearby with the remainder of the money. He spent the rest of it gambling and lost it all due to his addiction. He was doing bad. He had his last 500$.

One night Duško went to a club located in a parking lot near the airport. The entry ticket was 500$, which was all he had. He didn’t care, he gave the money away in wish to see some pretty women inside. However his luck was much better than that. Inside the club he saw some Serbs. He could easily recognize the accent. He remembered Predrag telling him that it is a Balkan thing, located near La Puerta. Duško connected the dots and figured that these people are probably involved. He approached one of them and told him about who he is and what he’s looing for. Novak told him to wait by the bar, and that they’ll talk. Later on Novak introduced Duško to Kristijan and another Serb that was there. Duško explained them his story and that he wants to work for them, that it’s his last option.

They drove fancy sports car to the clothing store, to change in order to get into a club. They made fun of Duško for his clothing choice, mocking him that he looks like he arrived from Vice City. Vice City is going to stay his nickname for time being. They mocked Duško for the car he drives as well. Duško was totally mad and about to lose it, but he kept it somehow in order to not fuck up this deal. He just wanted to meet with Predrag already. Duško never had good relationship with authority, which is going to pose him some troubles in the future.

At the club they met Milan, who is the leader of the whole operation. They went to a private aparatment / night club. Where they will discuss the real business. They discussed the pruchase of a wherehouse where they will grow drugs from and later on distribute them around the city. They talked about a lot of money that was coming, millions of dollars. Duško was even more interested than before.

They introduced him to their operation and accepted him into the ranks. Duško was finally about to be out of the mud. But the story for him just started. Trebaće mu sreće.
