What are some examples of unrealistic escalations that you've seen on the server?

Read again the way I said it, how I said it and what words I used. Isn't that hard mate...
Go and try finding something recent, not 1984, ages ago but again not related to what I said.

Literally, all you said was that if you are a civilian not from the "hood" then calling the cops is a reasonable thing to do.

I'm replying with, you can still get killed for it though and it'd still be realistic.

This belief that facing retribution for snitching/calling the cops is one I honestly think you can only form if A. Your not American, B. You never go outside or most likely both. It's a ridiculous belief grounded in fantasy.

Retribution killings/attacks are not some far gone ancient criminal practice from the 20th century. It doesn't matter that its infinitely easier to get caught in 2022 vs 1984, people still lash out violently when you've caused them unneeded law enforcement attention. I think it would do everyone a favor if people started RPing like actual individuals who live in an urban setting and not suburbanite tourists who call the cops on people for smoking weed.

3 of the links has nothing to do with what I said. One is entirely unrelated to the topic.

This isn't 1984, go to sleep grandpa. What you don't understand about 2020? Times changes, everyone has a phone. Police is twice effective.
Cameras are everywhere. Look what happened to Yakuza or most of italian mafias when times changed?

I know 100% all the thing you posted without reading it. I got sort of kidnapped/reverse kidnapped by cops, so they enforced us to bribe them or else I would end in courts for something not even remotely related to me directly or indirectly. I can't report them because they know where I live and kidnap me and spread my  body parts into a nice field. That happened to the guy living in the apartment on top of me and he was cop.

Yet I live in Venezuela, not USA. But still similar ruling.

Except that your average American gang member isn’t comparable to a Venezuelan cop, a Yakuza member, or Italian mobster. Gang members frequently terrorize people in their neighborhoods and beyond for reporting them. Most gang members aren’t smart or rational people and generally don’t give a shit about cameras. If you think your average gang member is going to avoid attacking you because you’re a law abiding citizen who reported them, you don’t understand how gang culture works.

There's no one-size fits all to gangs in the US. Each one operates on a very different ROE. Some tend to leave people in their community alone, which is usually traded off by people in said community never talking to Law Enforcement. Some try to lord over their turf and actively go after people who they know or suspect of talking to police, but that also tends to coorelate with a spike in anonymous tips over hotlines and such.

As for people from outside of the neighborhood talking to the cops, it's a two-lane street. If you're on your phone in public and a gangbanger sees you trying to alert the boys in blue, he will almost always run your shit. The real problem comes from criminals hunting down informants who live on the otherside of the city, or even the other side of the map, like it's their mission in life to get payback on this dude while he's chilling near his house in Sandy Shores.

I think the concerns are more along the lines of this. I've seen this happen to a character just being a civilian protecting her business.

I appreciate the insight from both sides of the argument. Not gonna comment further because I don't want to derail this thread into a debate on the topic, but maybe it makes sense to have a separate thread.

Honestly, this situation in the city, is that bad, that I stopped caring. I made my characters blind and deaf to anything that doesn't involve them. And if it does involve them, I rp it out but as soon as it's done, it's forgotten.
